The Fortnite Item Shop has been refreshed once more and today’s inventory lacks any major new crossovers, but it’s rather loaded with Epic-made heroes dating back as far as Chapter 1, Season 2. Spanning all four-plus years of the game so far, the Item Shop inventory has a bit of everything today. Here’s what you’ll find in the digital store for January 6, 2022.

The headlining item really comes down to personal preference. Nothing in the shop today has been absent more than a month or two, so it doesn’t really have any rare items at the moment, unless you count the soon-to-be-leaving Boba Fett and Cobra Kai cosmetics.

Manic’s alternate style comes without her mask. No covid on the Fortnite island, I suppose.

On the Epic side, you can find fan-favorites such as Manic, with her two styles and Scarlet Sai pickaxes, as well as Love Ranger and his Tat Axe pickaxe. Heroes from the in-universe anime, Battle Breakers, have also returned in the form of Razor and Kurohomura, two of the fake series’ lead characters.

Elsewhere in the shop, you can grab Geometrik, the Cube Legion-inspired hero (or villain, really), or Tactics Officer who first debuted way back in 2017’s Season 2. The simplicity of that one, while perhaps preferred by some players, still manages to remind us how far the game’s art design has come over the last several years.

For a complete breakdown of the shop inventory today, check out FireMonkey‘s tweet.

Microsoft’s Jason Ronald has confirmed that Xbox has “no plans” to remove or disable developer mode on Xbox consoles following speculation this week that it was planning to do just that.

Ronald, who is Partner Director of Program Management at Xbox, confirmed this on Twitter. “We continue to believe in and support a healthy independent app and game development community on Xbox,” Ronald said.

Some Partner Center accounts were “inadvertently deactivated,” Ronald said, which is what caused the confusion and speculation that the developer mode feature was being removed. “We are actively working on identifying and reenabling these accounts as soon as possible,” Ronald said.

Ronald said those who had their accounts accidentally deactivated can reach out to Microsoft at [email protected] to speed up the account recovery. “We apologize for the inconvenience and we are working to remedy this as quickly as possible and thanks for your patience.”

MSI, along with other vendors has unveiled new motherboards for Intel’s latest Alder Lake processors based on the more affordable H670, B660, and H610 chipsets. One of the most interesting MSI is the MAG B660 Tomahawk WIFI, which supports DDR4 memory, includes 2.5 GbE and Wi-Fi 6 networking, and provides plenty of USB 3.2 G2 connectivity on the rear panel.

Hailing from one of its most popular series of motherboards over the last couple of years, the Tomahawk typically offers users a decent feature set but at a more modest price point. The MAG B660 Tomahawk WIFI DDR4 is the latest in its ‘arsenal’ of MAG branded boards, with an all-black color scheme and an advertised 12+1+1-phase ‘duet rail’ power delivery. Providing power is a pair of 8-pin 12 V ATX CPU power inputs.

Focusing on memory, the MSI MAG B660 Tomahawk WIFI supports up to 128 GB of DDR4-4800 memory across four slots. For storage, it has a total of three M.2 slots, including one with support for PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2, one offering PCIe 4.0 x4 and SATA support, with a third slot supporting both PCIe 4.0 x2 and SATA based drives. Moving down to the lower portion of the board is the PCIe slots, with one full-length PCIe 4.0 x16, one full-length PCIe 3.0 x4, and one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. Regarding SATA, there’s a total of six ports, four powered by the chipset with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 arrays, and two powered by an ASMedia ASM1061 SATA controller.

For a B660 motherboard, the Tomahawk WIFI DDR4 offers a decent amount of rear panel connectivity, including one USB 3.2 G2x2 Type-C, four USB 3.2 G2 Type-A, and four USB 2.0 ports. Powering five 3.5 mm audio jacks and S/PDIF optical output is a Realtek ALC1220P HD audio codec, while MSI also provides a solid networking configuration consisting of a Realtek RTL8125B-CG 2.5 GbE controller and Intel-based Wi-FI 6 CNVi. Finishing off the rear panel is a pair of video outputs consisting of one HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 1.4.

At the time of writing, the MSI MAG B660 Tomahawk WIFI DDR4 motherboard should start filtering into retail channels immediately, although US pricing is unknown at this point. However, we found it available to purchase at UK retailer CCL Computers at a reasonable price of £210.

This week marks three weeks since employees across Activision Blizzard went on strike to show solidarity with twelve Raven Software QA employees unexpectedly laid off late last year and, subsequently, three weeks of silence from the company’s leadership regarding the incident. In an attempt to initiate conversation with Activision Blizzard once more, the former Raven QA team sent the company a letter Monday, January 3 outlining the conversations they hope to have with the company. Following the letter being sent to Activision Blizzard management, ABetterABK (A Better Activision, Blizzard, and King)–a Twitter group which was formed after reports of sexual harassment and sexism at the publisher surfaced earlier this year–shared the piece online.

Today is the third week in which employees across the company are striking in solidarity with Raven QA in response to surprise layoffs. Having had no response from our leadership, Raven QA sent the following letter earlier today. #WeAreRaven pic.twitter.com/e9AjbpuiJN

— ABetterABK 💙 ABK Workers Alliance (@ABetterABK) January 4, 2022

Among the topics of discussion listed in the letter were the details of the Raven QA team’s demands (as well as what the expectations were from both sides going forward), relocation packages for the Raven QA team who had previously moved for their position, and additional context regarding the situation from the leadership’s side. The team emphasized these conversations were in the interest of making a positive change in the company, and had the company’s best interest in mind. They then went on to write it was their hope that together they could “foster a transparent and trusting relationship” in the future.

The strike first began last December, when management at Raven Software informed their contracted QA staff that several of their contracts would not be renewed the following year. By the end of the day, it was revealed that 12 employees–or approximately 1/3 of the team–would ultimately be losing their jobs. To make matters worse, the news came after the team had spent the past five weeks working overtime to launch the new Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific map, and was reportedly promised by Activision “positive departmental changes” in the future after they were denied promotions and raises. While the strike began solely among the Raven QA team, several other QA teams operating under Activision Blizzard’s umbrella were quick to join the walkouts, backing the studio’s demand of permanent positions for the laid off QA testers.

In a statement given to GameSpot last December, Activision wrote that the layoffs were a part of an “internal restructure,” during which it plans to convert around 500 temporary employees to full-time employment.

“Activision Publishing is growing its overall investment in its development and operations resources,” the statement read. “We are converting approximately 500 temporary workers to full-time employees in the coming months. Unfortunately, as part of this change, we also have notified 20 temporary workers across studios that their contracts would not be extended.”

Since then, the company has provided no further comment.

At CES 2022, ASRock unveiled a total of nine Value Series models based on Intel’s latest 600 series chipsets, including one H670, three B660, and five H610 models. The ASRock Value Series offers entry-level features and options for users looking to harness the power of Alder Lake on a tight budget, with seven featuring support for DDR4 memory and two with support for the latest DDR5 memory.

One of the things that frustrated users at the initial launch of the Intel Z690 chipset was the lack of value. The Z690 models seem to be and are inherently more expensive than the previous generation. While there have been many theories and explanations floating around various online mediums such as Reddit, it’s hard to deny that motherboards have been skyrocketing in price over the last couple of years. The other obvious pitfall is the current availability and pricing of DDR5 memory.

Enter the Intel H670, B660, and H610 chipsets that do have ‘less’ in terms of features compared to the performance and premium Z690 chipset, nor do they include over-engineered power deliveries impressive OLED panels like some of the flagships include. One of the things that the new 600 series chipsets do have is value. The ASRock Value Series offers users a lower cost and modest entry point to benefit from the improvements that Intel’s 12th generation brings to the table, but without breaking the bank.

ASRock H670 Value Series Motherboards

ASRock has announced just one ‘Value Series’ motherboard on the H670 chipset, the mini-ITX sized H670M-ITX/ax. It follows a basic silver and black color theme throughout, and ASRock is advertising an 8-phase Dr.MOS power delivery, with support for up to 64 GB of DDR4-5000 memory across two slots.

The ASRock H670M-ITX/ac mini-ITX motherboard

Some of the most notable features of the ASRock H670M-ITX/ax is an integrated Wi-Fi 6E CNVi, with a Realtek RTL8125BG 2.5 GbE controller, as well as support for two PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 drives, four SATA ports, and a single full-length PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. It includes one USB 3.2 G2x2 Type-C, two USB 3.2 G2 Type-A, four USB 2.0 ports on the rear panel, and one USB 3.2 G1 Type-C front panel header. It also benefits from a budget Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec that powers three 3.5 mm audio jacks.

ASRock B660 Value Series Motherboards

There are three ASRock B660 Value Series motherboards, including two micro-ATX options. The first of these is the ASRock B660M-HDVP/D5, which supports 64 GB of DDR5 memory across two slots and one full-length PCIe 4.0 x16, two PCIe 3.0 x1, and one legacy PCI slot. It also includes one PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot, four SATA ports, a Realtek RTL8111H Gigabit controller, and uses a Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec. However, the B660M-HDVP/D5 doesn’t have any USB 3.2 G2 support.

The ASRock B660M-HDVP/D5 micro-ATX motherboard with support for DDR5 memory

The ASRock B660M-HDV has a slightly different layout and feature set to the B660M-HDVP/D5, with two memory slots capable of supporting up to 64 GB of DDR4-5066 memory. Also included is one PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2, one PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2, four SATA ports, an Intel I219-V Gigabit Ethernet controller, but it lists both a Realtek ALC897 and 887 HD audio codec, which is confusing. Like the B660M-HDVP/D5, the B660M-HDV doesn’t include any form of USB 3.2 G2 connectivity.

ASRock also has the B660M-ITX/ac, which is its only mini-ITX model based on the B660 chipset. It includes one full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, supporting one PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2, and four SATA ports. There are two memory slots with support for up to 64 GB of DDR4-5000, with onboard audio capabilities consisting of a Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec, networking handled by an Intel I219-V Gigabit Ethernet controller, and like the other B660 Value Series models, it doesn’t feature any USB 3.2 G2 connectivity.

ASRock H610 Value Series Motherboards

For the most value-focused of Intel’s 600 series chipsets, ASRock has five H610 motherboards available, four micro-ATX, and one mini-ITX model. The first of the micro-ATX models is the ASRock H610M-HDVP/D5, which has support for DDR5 memory, as well as an advertised 5-phase power delivery, a Realtek RTL8111H Gigabit Ethernet port, and a Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec. In terms of PCIe, there’s a full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, a legacy PCI slot, as well as one PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot and four SATA ports. It also has a Serial COM port on the rear panel, with four video outputs, including one HDMI, one DisplayPort 1.4m, one DVI-D, and one D-Sub.

The ASRock H610M-HDV/M.2 micro-ATX motherboard with added Key E M.2 slot for Wi-Fi

The ASRock H610M-HDV/M.2 has a black and grey PCB, supporting up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 memory across two slots. There are one full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, one PCIe 3.0 x4 and four SATA ports for conventional storage, and an Intel I219-V Gigabit Ethernet controller, with ASRock advertising both a Realtek ALC897 and 887 HD audio codec. The main feature of the H610M-HDV/M.2 is that it has a Key E M.2 slot for users looking at their own Wi-Fi CNVi.

ASRock also has the H610M-HDV and H610M-HDV models, which have no M.2 slots onboard. Both models feature one full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot, four SATA ports, and a Realtek RTL8111 Gigabit controller instead of the Intel variant. Both of these models use a Realtek RTL8111H Gigabit Ethernet controller, a Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec, with the only difference between the two being that the H610-HDV has a DisplayPort 1.4 video output. Both do, however, include a D-sub and HDMI video output pairing.

The ASRock H610M-ITX/ac mini-ITX motherboard with a Wi-Fi 5 CNVi

The only ASRock Value Series for mini-ITX is the H610M-ITX/ac, with one full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot, and four SATA ports. ASRock is advertising a 6-phase power delivery, with other features including an Intel I219-V Gigabit Ethernet controller and Wi-Fi 5 CNVi for networking, with a Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec taking care of the board’s audio functionality. Like all of ASRock’s other H610 models, none of these features any type of USB 3.2 G2 connectivity, nor do they include any level of support for USB Type-C.

ASRock hasn’t specified when its H670, B660, and H610 Value Series motherboards will hit retail channels, nor have they provided any pricing.

An official date hasn’t been confirmed for Call of Duty’s Season 1 Reloaded update for Vanguard and Warzone, but we’ve officially reached the middle of the season. Call of Duty’s mid-season updates generally bring more content and weapon tuning across multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone, but few details have been revealed by Activision. Here’s what we know so far about the big update.

Season 1 Reloaded start time

Call of Duty’s Season 1 update went live on December 8 for Vanguard and Warzone, and now there are less than 28 days left in the battle pass, so we’ve officially reached the halfway point for the season. Updates are always subject to change, but this means a roadmap and details should be arriving soon. And if this mid-season update follows the past update times, Season 1 Reloaded could arrive around 9 PM PT January 11 and 12 AM ET on January 12.

Multiplayer

It’s uncertain what content players can expect for Vanguard’s multiplayer without an updated roadmap, but Sledgehammer Games has given a small update regarding some of the mode’s planned changes. The list includes a tweak to the Mortar Barrage killstreak, changes to Panzerfaust weapon challenges, perk adjustments, and a weapon tuning pass. These updates weren’t mentioned to be specifically coming with the Season 1 Reloaded update, so we may see these changes sooner than the big mid-season update.

Additionally, the Welgun submachine gun was announced with the Season 1 roadmap to be coming later in season, so that new weapon will likely be part of the Season 1 Reloaded update for Vanguard and Warzone. Like past mid-season weapons, the Welgun will be available either through an unlock challenge for free or with purchase of a store bundle.

Welgun submachine gun

Zombies

Zombies mode has been light on content since Vanguard’s launch, but the Season 1 roadmap detailed a few updates coming to Der Anfang for the later portion of the season. This includes the new Tome of Rituals feature to allow players to get more power from their Artifacts, Von List’s Office will be a new area to explore on the map, and support killstreaks will be added.

Players are still waiting for the pause feature to be implemented into Zombies, and this addition was mentioned to be coming later in the season. Hopefully, everyone will be able to pause for snacks or a bathroom break with the start of Season 1 Reloaded.

Warzone

We don’t have any real details of what’s coming to Warzone for the mid-season update, but hopefully there will be new events and game modes to keep the new Caldera map feeling fresh. The battle royale is also suffering from a slew of bugs and performance issues, so a major quality of life update for Caldera would be welcomed as well.

Activision should be releasing a roadmap and full details soon. We’ll keep this page updated as more Season 1 Reloaded information emerges.

Call of Duty’s seasonal content carries on as walkouts continue in protest of surprise contract terminations within Raven Software’s QA team. Activision Blizzard faces lawsuits and other investigations related to alleged sexual harassment and discrimination against women.

Behaviour Interactive announced on January 3 that it intends to remove a cosmetic skin for The Cannibal (also known as Leatherface). The removal of the mask follows reports that players have been experiencing racist harassment in-game using the mask.

A two-part development update posted on Monday outlined numerous changes coming to the game and addressed the reports. “Members of the community have shared their experiences with people targeting and harassing them while using some of these masks. These reports were disheartening to hear, and we absolutely condemn this behaviour,” said Behaviour Interactive in the update.

As a result, the Leatherface survivor mask cosmetic will be removed by the release of the Mid-Chapter update. The cosmetic would allow players to wear the faces of survivor characters in Dead by Daylight, one of which belongs to Claudette Morel, who is a Black woman. Behaviour Interactive stated, “We will not tolerate hateful activity and will continue to take every step necessary to protect the community.”
