Dark Souls is one of the most influential video games of all time, with From Software’s 2011 masterpiece finding its elements used in a wide variety of other action and role-playing games. Those that use many of the same mechanics, listed below, are collectively known as Souls-likes:

Unlockable checkpoints (bonfires)Currency (souls) dropped upon deathInterconnected world with locked doors and shortcutsRespawning enemies upon death or rest

A game containing these elements, or the majority of them, shares enough in common with the Dark Souls series to be considered a Souls-like, and we’ve gathered together eight of the best Souls-like games if you are itching for some punishment. Because of the “like” in the name, we’ve excluded From Software’s own games from consideration, including all Souls games, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. Speaking of From Software’s latest masterpiece, make sure to check out our roundup of the best games like Elden Ring to play after visiting the Lands Between.

The Nintendo Switch continues to be a massive hit more than five years after its launch. It’s a console that’s perfect for use at home or when you’re on the go. One of the cleverest elements of the Switch’s design are the Joy-Con–detachable controllers that amplify the hybrid nature of this hardware. That detachable focus also gives the Switch a highly-customizable format, one that Nintendo has capitalized on over the years with special-edition console bundles and unique controller color schemes.

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, every Joy-Con does look great when in hand. Whether it be standard gray or vibrant green, they’re eye-pleasing expressions of creativity. We’ve gathered up every official release below, just in case you felt like taking a tour through Switch history. Some of these sets are hard to find nowadays for a number of reasons, so completing your North American isn’t super straightforward. And yes, sometimes Switch owners do have to purchase new pairs of Joy-Con not because they want a new color scheme but due to the unfortunate issue of Joy-Con drift. At least Joy-Con controllers look cool, right?

Original Gray Joy-Con

While it’s easily the plainest color possible for a console that’s capable of transmitting beautifully vibrant images, the gray Joy-Con still have an air of sophistication and quality to them. Nondescript and classy, it’s the best shade of gray that Nintendo could have chosen when the Switch first hit the market, and five years later, they’re still a handsome pair.

Original Neon Red and Blue Joy-Con

On the other side of the fence, the original Neon Red and Blue Joy-Con simply screamed “Nintendo” as loud as they could from a nearby mountaintop. Compared to the glossy and matte black color schemes chosen by Sony and Microsoft for their controllers, these Joy-Con stood out from the pack as they blended a unique design with eye-catching colors.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Gray Joy-Con

For those of you who wanted the gray Joy-Con with a hint of flair but didn’t want it to be too flagrant, this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate controller would meet those very specific needs! A splash of 90- and 180-degree gray lines that tie into the game, the same gray aesthetic as the original Joy-Con, and a reminder that drab can be delightful were hallmarks of this design.

Pikachu and Eevee Pokemon Let’s Go! Joy-Con

The special-edition Joy-Con for Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu were…kind of weird. With both of them attached, the end result looked like a caramel bar in your left hand and a slice of custard cake in your right hand. Still, the colors looked great and unusual, so they had some charm.

Super Mario Red Joy-Con

How red can a Joy-Con get? Really really red as evidenced by these Super Mario-themed special-edition controllers. Dashing in their bright crimson design, this pair of peripherals were perfect for expressing your fondness for Nintendo’s favorite plumber, and they stood out from a mile away with their daring design. These red Joy-Con were only available with the Mario Red and Blue edition Nintendo Switch console, which came with a matching red console, dock, and carrying case. While you can’t find this console for retail price nowadays, it’s not as expensive as you might expect through third-party sellers.

Neon Pink and Green Joy-Con

You don’t see a watermelon combination of pink and green too often when it comes to accessories, but this daring combo of primary colors found a perfect home with the Nintendo Switch. More neon than the set of Blade Runner, this duo made for a delightful pairing on the hybrid console.

Neon Yellow Joy-Con

They’re…yellow Joy-Cons. I honestly don’t know what else I can add to that revelation, other than the fun fact painting your room in the color is great because studies have shown that it can stimulate the mind. Or make you crave a banana for some unknown reason. Science. Unfortunately, a pair of Neon Yellow Joy-Con aren’t available for retail price nowadays. Though you can still get a Neon Yellow right Joy-Con paired with a different color.

Neon Blue And Yellow Joy-Cons

They might be considered clashing colors, but there’s something oddly mesmerizing about having both blue and yellow Joy-Con on a single Switch. Great for drawing attention and being visually upsetting when presented to a pedantic art school teacher.

Neon Green Joy-Con

These aren’t just Neon Green Joy-Con, they’re a pair of controllers that celebrate the true star of Nintendo, Luigi. Specifically, this peripheral pairing was a Best Buy-exclusive that released close to Luigi’s Mansion 3’s launch. They kind of look like Gooigi, the delightful pile of goop that looks like Luigi. As you might expect, these Joy-Con aren’t available to purchase at retail price any longer.

Neon Purple And Orange Joy-Cons

Rounding out the neon collection of Joy-Con in bright purple and orange, this duo might just be the most vibrant of the lot! Plus, they’re obviously Wario-approved.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Joy-Con

Sure, you’ve seen the blue and green controllers on this list already, but they sport a shade of color that’s more energetic than a raccoon after it discovered sugar. The Animal Crossing controllers on the other hand are pure visual relaxation with its more muted usage of those colors, although if you want a pair, you’ll need to shell out some cash for the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch bundle that they came with. Thankfully, the “limited-edition console” is still readily available at major retailers for its standard $300 list price.

Fortnite Limited Edition Joy-Con

Functionally identical to the Neon Yellow and Blue Joy-Con, the only other extra to tie into Fortnite was an image of the battle royale’s iconic party bus on the right-hand controller, which was later replaced by the face of that creepy banana fella. There was also some included DLC such as 500 VBucks and the Fleet Force bundle, but otherwise these Joy-Cons were exhibiting some big Malibu Stacy new hat energy. You can still purchase them now for slightly above retail price.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Joy-Con

Now we’re talking unique! The Skyward Sword Joy-Con consists of a left controller with a serene blue finish, while the right controller has a royal purple color scheme. Each controller also has Zelda iconography present, such as Triforce and Link symbols that emphasize the Hyrulian heritage to make them stand out. You don’t need to buy a brand-new console to own them either, as this pair of Joy-Con was released alongside Skyward Sword HD and sold for the regular $80 price. It’s not always easy to find the Skyward Sword Joy-Con in stock, but they pop up at various retailers every few weeks or so.

NES Joy-Con

While these controllers sported a premium price–$200 to be exact–they still deserve a spot on this list for being an incredible representation of the NES era. A much better application of the color gray that’s capped off by vintage design elements and red face buttons, they’re the perfect devices to use when you’re reliving Nintendo’s past with Switch Online games.

Monster Hunter Rise Joy-Cons

To celebrate the launch of Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch, Nintendo released a special-edition console bundle that was pure art. The game’s unique aesthetic looked like it had been carved into the Switch and its dock, while the Joy-Con controllers took the default gray base and added some exotic pizzazz to them with even more etchings and elegant lines. Much like the Mario Switch bundle, the Monster Hunter Rise special-edition console isn’t available for retail price these days. You can, however, purchase the console at a premium from third-party sellers. Big Monster Hunter fans may still be interested, especially since it also comes with a digital copy of the game.

A “Max Double XP” event is now live in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard, allowing players to level up much faster over the next few days.

Call of Duty’s double XP event will run until March 28, and players can enjoy double earn rates for regular player progression, weapon XP, operator XP, and battle pass XP across both games. Vanguard players can also earn double clan XP during this time, which is a feature exclusive to the title.

This XP event arrives shortly after the launch of Warzone and Vanguard’s Season 2 Reloaded updates, which makes it a great time to level up the new Armaguerra 43 submachine gun. The Armaguerra 43 can be unlocked with an in-game challenge for free or purchased with a cosmetic bundle. Warzone players can also rack up some serious XP this weekend by participating in the ongoing Rebirth Reinforced event.

If double XP and a limited-time event doesn’t spark enough excitement, iconic rapper Snoop Dogg will arrive to both Vanguard and Warzone on April 19 as a playable operator. He’ll be available even earlier in Call of Duty Mobile, arriving just a day after the game’s launch of Season 3: Radical Raid.

An Among Us crewmate is coming to developer Owlchemy Labs’ soon-to-launch VR game Cosmonious High, the studio has announced. This Among Us crewmate is hiding somewhere n the Cosmonious High world, and Owlchemy isn’t saying exactly where to find them.

Once players find this crewmate, however, they can interact with them, but no further details were announced. Of note, this is the first time an Among Us character is being rendered in a 3D game–and in the case of Cosmonious High, the crewmate is in virtual reality, too.

The Among Us crewmate will be featured in Cosmonious High when it launches March 31 on Meta Quest 2 and SteamVR. Developer Owlchemy Labs previously made Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator. Check out the Among Us x Cosmonious High announcement trailer above to learn more.

Cosmonious High puts players into the role of Prismi, who crash-lands in a strange place on the first day of an alien high school. “This welcoming place is alive with fun and friendly characters but plagued by mysterious malfunctions. Players will unlock powers, take classes, make friends, and restore Cosmonious High to its former glory,” reads a line from the game’s description.

Among Us itself is also coming to VR, with the new edition coming from VR studio Schell Games, the developer of I Expect You To Die. With the VR edition, the 2D action of Among Us will turn into a 3D multiplayer world that retains the core mechanics of the original game.

The creator of a Bloodborne PSX demake has announced plans to make good on an April Fool’s prank. Bloodborne Kart is real, apparently, and coming as soon as it’s finished. The announcement was made as part of the iconic game’s seventh anniversary.

Modder Lillith.zip announced the game via Twitter with a short teaser clip, and followed with a second tweet saying it will come out “as soon as it’s ready.” The follow-up credit also gave credit to those who helped with music, the logo, and that extremely metal announcer voice.

The Bloodborne Kart meme is based on an April Fool’s prank also played by Lillith last year, which suggested the PSX demake was canceled in favor of the kart-racing game. That wasn’t true, and the PSX demake has since come out, but the fake announcement may give us an idea of what the actual game will look like.

An announcement: pic.twitter.com/miydPUzZbR

— 🪄💫 Lilith.zip📁🏳️‍⚧️ (ps1 goth girl) BLM ACAB (@b0tster) March 25, 2022

Making a kart-racer out of a popular franchise was a common enough practice in the PS1 and PS2 days that it became a go-to joke, as in the cast of Uncharted Kart (or “Unkarted”). Lillith is helping keep that spirit alive with Bloodborne Kart. If you’re looking for a modern kart racer in the meantime, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch has just started putting out its Booster Pass tracks.

Meanwhile, From Software’s latest game, Elden Ring has gotten a huge reception well beyond previous From games. If you need some help finding great gear to match your class or even deciding what kind of class to pick, check out our Elden Ring guides hub.

Video games based on Lego have primarily been the domain of developer Traveler’s Tales for many years now, but there’s a new challenger on the block in the form of Lego Bricktales. Developed by Bridge Constructor series studio Clockstone and published by Thunderful, Lego Bricktales takes place across a series of Lego dioramas. Each biome has a few puzzles to solve, and you’ll be able to build your way out of any predicaments using Lego.

You can create fully-functioning gadgets and vehicles across the jungle, desert, city corner, medieval castle, and tropical Caribbean island locations, or you can build something that’s pleasing to the eye. The choice is yours, and the more you explore these environments, the more blocks you’ll unlock for your personal builds and missions that you can take part in.

“After more than two years, it feels incredible to finally announce what we have been working on behind closed doors,” Thunderful VP Dieter Schoeller said in a statement. “With Lego Bricktales, we’ve made it our mission to tap into what it is that makes Lego play so special. Our intuitive brick-by-brick building mechanic allows players to engage with Lego bricks in a video game the same way the toys have been inspiring people’s imagination and creativity for decades.”

Lego Bricktales

Outside of the game’s story mode, Lego Bricktales will also have a sandbox mode for getting creative. A release date and platforms haven’t been revealed yet, although next month will see the launch of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in case you’re looking for another Lego video game.

If you’re picking up Kirby and the Forgotten Land this weekend, you might be wondering how long it will take you to get through the charming adventure. With more than 30 mainline stages and even more optional side content, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the puffball’s lengthiest game yet. There’s much to see and do in the first 3D Kirby platformer, so you rest assured knowing that you likely won’t breeze through it.

How long to beat Kirby and the Forgotten Land?

I completed Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s mainline story, Treasure Road stages, and post-game content in about 15 hours. My save file is currently at 80% with around 18 hours of play. It’s worth noting here that I made a point of completing the Treasure Road time trials–which can be tricky–alongside the mainline missions in each world before moving onto the next world.

Players who focus purely on the mainline missions could finish Kirby and the Forgotten Land in 5-10 hours. That said, rushing through the game like that would lessen the experience considerably. You have to complete Treasure Road stages in order to acquire Rare Stones that can be used to level up Kirby’s signature Copy abilities. Copy ability evolutions are a big part of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Completionists who want their save file to hit 100% could spend 25 hours or more inside the Forgotten Land. Each mainline level has multiple optional objectives to find in order to save additional Waddle Dees. Though I played for roughly 20 hours, I still have 70 hidden Waddle Dees to find.

GameSpot’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land review rewarded the new Nintendo Switch exclusive a 9/10. “Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of those games that’s hard to play without constantly having a silly smile on your face,” I wrote. “It’s far more than just a cute and charming platformer with colorful visuals, though. This is one of the best platformers on Nintendo Switch thanks to its brilliantly designed stages and a dynamic arsenal of abilities that consistently shake up the moment-to-moment platforming and action.”

Those who haven’t grabbed a copy of Kirby and the Forgotten Land yet can save 15 bucks right now at Daily Steals with promo code GSKIRBY. It’s worth noting that this deal applies to the UK edition of the game, but orders ship from the US and the Switch is region-free.

Update: Daily Steals has informed GameSpot that this deal applies to the EU edition of the game, not the NA version as originally listed. This just means that the content rating badge on the front of the box will be for PEGI rather than ESRB. Since the Switch isn’t region locked, you can still play the EU region cartridge on your Switch. The price has also dropped from $48 to $45.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is out now, and if you didn’t preorder your copy ahead of time, we have a deal that you should definitely check out. Use GameSpot’s exclusive promo code GSKIRBY when checking out at Daily Steals to knock the price down to $45. This is the best Kirby and the Forgotten Land deal around, and it’s pretty unlikely the game will be available for less than $45 for at least a few months.

Daily Steals offers free shipping with your order, with orders shipping as early as today. That means you won’t be able to play this weekend, which is a bit of a bummer for sure. The promo code will work until April 9.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a wonderful 3D platformer that all Nintendo Switch owners should check out. I gave it a 9/10 in GameSpot’s Kirby and the Forgotten Land review.

Over the past week, several notable YouTubers who covered Destiny-related content were hit with takedown notices for their work. Not even Bungie was immune to Destiny copyright strikes, although the developer did mention at the time that it was investigating the problem.

According to Bungie, some of these notices originated from fraudulent accounts that were created to impersonate its intellectual property protection service, CSC. The fake accounts submitted fraudulent legal requests to YouTube, but this issue has been resolved and all submissions from these accounts will be reversed.

“The processing of these takedowns was an enforcement mistake by Google, and beyond rescinding the strikes and reinstating the videos, they are also working on process improvements to reduce the likelihood of any similar mistakes in the future,” Bungie explained in a blog post.

To further clarify the situation, Bungie added that it and CSC did not go rogue or issue any unauthorized takedowns, nor was the bad actor responsible for these notices affiliated with the companies. When Bungie has issued a takedown notice, it has been for unauthorized use and uploading of its original soundtrack music content, but recent events have prompted a change in how Bungie protects this specific content.

“Going forward we will be allowing certain Destiny music tracks to be uploaded to channels for archival purposes,” Bungie said. There are a few rules attached to making use of these musical tracks:

It can’t be an OST song that Bungie has already released or posted elsewhere publicly. The content cannot be monetized. The creator needs to obtain permission from Bungie by contacting this email: [email protected].

Bungie added that while its support for its creator community was a crucial and important part in its Destiny 2 strategy, there has to be some boundaries between fan content and exploiting the work that its staff had produced over several years. Currently, the studio allows for videos based on Destiny 2 to be monetized if at least 20% of the content within has been created by the player, which includes custom commentary, animations, graphics, or gameplay.

Elsewhere in Destiny 2, a new update has allowed players to store more elements in their inventories. The weekend has also arrived, which means that a supply restock of Exotic gear will be available from Xur, just in time for some friendly competition in Trials of Osiris.
