In Fortnite, the final Covert Ops mission has finally been assigned to us by The Origin, and while it might seem easy at first, this one is a little bit trickier than it initially lets on–but we will get to that later, as first we need to, as always, establish a device uplink. This time, we have our pick between the river north of Rocky Reels, the western entrance to Tilted Towers, The Fortress, or Command Cavern. Here’s where to plant timed explosives in Fortnite.

Pick one of these four locations to hear The Origin’s voice again– er, sorry, to receive your new mission details.

Pick your poison, drop down, establish that uplink, and you’ll hear that The Origin’s got a new mission for you– he wants you to blow up a bunch of Imagined Order equipment so that hopefully, they won’t be able to do whatever it is they’re doing with that doomsday device we’ve been hearing so much about–and we’ll be able to get that sweet, sweet Secret Sledge pickaxe for ourselves.

There are a total of three explosives we need to place, and there are more than enough spots to choose from; each of the areas we established the device uplink in should have a few spots marked on the map. Some of them can be pretty hard to spot, so make sure you’re near important IO equipment, like large computers, the Airships, or the Fortress. There are several spots in Command Cavern as well, but make sure you’re staying vigilant, as the NPCs in these areas can be aggressive. Avoid or eliminate them, and keep an eye on your map for exclamation point symbols as well as the distinct white glow that the objective markers give off. If you’ve found one, you’re in luck; the others should be relatively close and easy to find.

Make sure you’re looking out for the telltale white glow of the objective points.

Once you’ve placed all three explosives, The Origin will be in touch to congratulate you for proving you have what it takes, as well as thank you for potentially turning the tide in the battle against the Imagined Order. Hit the lobby once you’re finished to be greeted with your prize; the Secret Sledge pickaxe, in all its multicolored glory.

Finally, the prize we’ve been working towards this whole time– the Secret Sledge.

Congrats, looper! You’ve completed all of the Covert Ops challenges and claimed the Secret Sledge pickaxe for yourself. Now that you’ve gotten that, make sure to check out this week’s new season challenges and Resistance quests to make sure you’re getting all the XP you deserve.

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently in its third season of Vanguard integration, but with the recent announcement of Warzone 2 being developed alongside this year’s upcoming Modern Warfare 2, players are still waiting to find out if their cosmetic items will transfer to the new game. Unfortunately, The Washington Post’s recent interview with Warzone developers didn’t provide a definitive answer.

On April 29, a journalist for The Washington Post’s Launcher sat down with Warzone developers Josh Bridge, who is the creative lead of Call of Duty live ops, and Ted Timmons, senior creative director at Raven Software. While the discussion was mainly focused on Godzilla and Season 3’s big changes, the last portion of the interview touched on the future of Warzone, and the interviewer asked the developers if players’ skins and other cosmetics would transfer over to Warzone 2.

Unfortunately, a clear yes or no answer isn’t provided. Instead, Bridge explained that this is a new challenge for the developers, as past Call of Duty games usually only have a one-or two-year cycle of content. Warzone is currently “bloated” with content from three separate titles, which developers previously mentioned was a cause of problems for Caldera’s initial rocky launch in Vanguard’s Season 1.

“It’s a technology discussion,” Bridge said. The developer is still working through how to deal with such massive inventory management, so players will likely be waiting for some time for an announcement about any cosmetic inventory that may or may not transfer to Warzone 2.

Activision is still holding back on details, but the publisher recently teased that Warzone 2 will have “groundbreaking innovations” to be revealed later this year. Additionally, here is everything we know so far about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Activision Blizzard continues to face lawsuits alleging incidents of sexism and harassment. The most recent allegation is just the latest in a list of investigations and lawsuits in regards to Activision Blizzard’s workplace culture.

Alongside Intel’s regular earnings report yesterday, the company also delivered a brief up on the state of one of their most important upcoming products, Meteor Lake. Intel’s first chiplet/tile-based SoC, which completed initial development last year, has now completed power-on testing and more. The news is not unexpected, but for Intel it still marks a notable milestone, and is important proof that both Meteor Lake and the Intel 4 process remain on track.

Meteor Lake, which is slated to be the basis of Intel’s 14th generation Core processors in 2023, is an important chip for the company on several levels. In terms of design, it is the first chiplet-based (or as Intel likes to put it, “disaggregated”) mass-market client SoC from the company. Intel’s roadmap for the Core lineup has the company using chiplet-style SoCs on a permanent basis going forward, so Meteor Lake is very important for Intel’s design and architecture teams as it’s going to be their first crack at client chiplets – and proof as to whether they can successfully pull it off.

Meanwhile Meteor Lake is also the first client part that will be built on the Intel 4 process, which was formerly known as Intel’s 7nm process. Intel 4 will mark Intel’s long-awaited (and delayed) transition to using EUV in patterning, making it one of the most significant changes to Intel’s fab technology since the company added FinFETs a decade ago. Given Intel’s fab troubles over the past few years, the company is understandably eager to show off any proof that its fab development cycle is back on track, and that they are going to make their previously declared manufacturing milestones.

As for this week’s power-on announcement, this is in-line with Intel’s earlier expectations. At the company’s 2022 investor meeting back in February, in the client roadmap presentation Intel indicated that they were aiming for a Q2’22 power-on.

We have officially powered-on our first disaggregated product: Meteor Lake. An incredible milestone resulting from the efforts of so many across @intel. Congratulations, team! pic.twitter.com/eKvHzDqSiu

— Michelle Johnston Holthaus (@MJHolthaus) April 29, 2022

In fact, it would seem that Intel has slightly exceeded their own goals. While in a tweet put out today by Michelle Johnston Holthaus, the recently named EVP and GM of Intel’s Client Computing Group, announced that Meteor Lake had been powered on, comments from CEO Pat Gelsinger indicate that Meteor Lake is doing even better than that. According to Gelsinger’s comments on yesterday’s earnings call, Meteor Lake has also been able to boot Windows, Chrome, and Linux. So while there remains many months of bring-up left to go, it would seem that Meteor Lake’s development is proceeding apace.

But that will be a story for 2023. Intel will first be getting Raptor Lake out the door later this year. The Alder Lake successor is being built on the same Intel 7 process as Alder Lake itself, and will feature an enhanced version of the Alder Lake architecture.

One of the more intriguing-looking games of 2022 is The Callisto Protocol, a horror game set in the PUBG universe coming from one of the designers of Dead Space.

Glen Schofield, the studio head at developer Striking Distance, has shared some concept art for The Callisto Protocol–and it looks very spooky. The image appears to show some type of undead humanoid in a derelict setting. As for when Striking Distance will properly show more of The Callisto Protocol, that might be soon, as Schofield said, “It’s almost time to show you the real thing. Can’t wait.”

There is no word yet on when exactly Striking Distance will reveal more details on The Callisto Protocol, but one possibility is Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest later this year, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Going through some of the concept art from our incredibly talented art team for @callistothegame today. It’s almost time to show you the real thing. Can’t wait. pic.twitter.com/lHbxbQGndC

— Glen A. Schofield (@GlenSchofield) April 29, 2022

Schofield has not held back in hyping The Callisto Protocol, saying his studio’s aim is to make “the single scariest game on PC and consoles.” The game is scheduled for release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is seemingly nearing the end of its development schedule, with Schofield recently saying it is in the “finish and polish” stage.

The Callisto Protocol is single-player, story-driven survival horror game set on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto, in a prison colony. As for how the game connects to PUBG, Schofield previously told GamesRadar+ that the connection between the two is “not gonna be really deep but there will be little connections here and there.”

“We’ll probably be referencing one another from time to time, but it’ll make more sense once the game comes out,” he said.

Schofield is known for his work in co-creating the Dead Space series at EA before joining Activision to work on Call of Duty and then leaving to start his own studio. Another key developer at Striking Distance is Steve Papoutsis, another EA veteran who worked alongside Schofield on Dead Space.

As for the Dead Space series, it’s making a comeback, too, with a Dead Space remake scheduled for 2023.

Ubisoft’s long-in-development swashbuckling pirate game Skull & Bones has leaked in a big way, with a lengthy gameplay video emerging from a technical test.

The video, posted on Streamable, begins by setting up the focus of the game, which is to become the most infamous pirate on the seas during the golden age of piracy. Players can disembark their ship at a place called Saint-Anne where they can craft new ships and equipment, collect provisions, take on contracts, and socialize with other human players, according to the video.

The video also reveals that players will have their reputation tracked through an “infamy” scale that they can grow by taking on contracts with rewards for succeeding and penalties for coming up short. Users can also take part in world events and plunder treasure chests to gain infamy. What’s more, the video reveals some of the character creation and customization options available to players, as well as the systems that call on players to manage their ship health and crew morale when at sea.

Ubisoft seemingly reacted to the leak by sharing an official video of its own for Skull & Bones with the caption “Keep your eyes on the horizon.” Reading between the lines here, it appears Ubisoft might be gearing up to make some kind of an official announcement about the game soon.

Ubisoft historically holds a summer games showcase of some kind, but the company has not yet announced plans for this.

Skull & Bones has been in development for many years, and it has undergone some changes. In 2020, Ubisoft confirmed it was shifting the game to a “new vision” after a report claimed the project had been rebooted. In May 2021, Ubisoft formally delayed Skull & Bones to its fiscal year 2022-2023, which runs April 1, 2022-March 31, 2023.

There is also a Skull & Bones TV show on the way. On whether the game’s new delay will affect the TV show, Ubisoft told GameSpot, “The Skull & Bones TV series has no impact on the development of the game–and vice versa.”

Ahead of its release in cinemas on May 6, Microsoft and Marvel Studios have teamed up to create a unique Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Xbox console.

Using the Xbox Series S as a base, the console sports an image of extra-dimensional space octopus Gargantos, while the top panel has been painted to look like the window of the Sanctum Sanctorum. The prize also includes four Xbox controllers inspired by key characters from the film–Doctor Strange, Wong, the Scarlet Witch, and America Chavez–with each one having distinctive and recognizable components and textures from the characters’ costumes.

Eye of Agamotto not included.

If you’re interested, you can enter the sweepstakes through this link. Since the launch of the Xbox Series X|S consoles, Microsoft has regularly come up with promotional redesigns of the hardware that tie into upcoming games and films.

There’s a Spongebob Squarepants Xbox that makes perfect use of the Series X shape, and in the controller department, there’s the recent celebration of Xbox’s 20th anniversary in Scotland with a unique tartan material wrapped around the device. Plus, there’s also the disturbing Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles controllers.

The latest trailer for Multiverse of Madness has slightly spoiled the cameo of a secret Marvel team, and the movie has been denied a theatrical release in Saudi Arabia, presumably due to the film’s inclusion of a queer character. Tickets are now on sale, and you can some non-spoilery Multiverse of Madness posters of the Sam Raimi-directed sequel to the 2016 film.

Final Fantasy XVI appears to be in the final crucial stages of its development cycle, as a new interview with producer Naoki Yoshida has provided some fresh updates on Square Enix’s upcoming RPG.

Spotted online by Twitter user alberich_ff14 and translated by RPG Site, Yoshida’s comments come from an official Uniqlo magazine ahead of that brand’s launch of several Final Fantasy T-shirts.

“Now we’re at the finale of the new game FF16’s development,” Yoshida said. “Unlike an online game that depicts multiple players simultaneously, FF16 focuses on an individual so the state of immersion into the story will be different. I feel like the story will be very deep.”

According to the producer, there’s a hope that this particular Final Fantasy will appeal to older fans of the series, who have grown with the various games over the years. Yoshida previously said that the game’s next big reveal will come in Spring 2022, and due to complications around COVID-19, Final Fantasy XVI’s development has been delayed by almost half a year.

Very little is known about Final Fantasy XVI right now, but the names of three of its characters–Clive, Joshua, and Jill–have been confirmed and Square Enix has also described this entry in the mainline series as being more action-oriented.

Even though it wasn’t present at the Tokyo Games Show in September, there was also confirmation that the game’s story had been completed and the English voiceovers were almost done.
