V Rising, the zombie survival game from developer Stunlock Studios, has surpassed 1 million copies sold after just one week in early access on PC.

V Rising lets you play as a newly awakened vampire who lives in a world populated and run by humans; your goal is to become the next Dracula. Players need to consume blood to gain powers, hide from the sun, and take part in combat on their journeys.

V Rising is one of Steam’s most popular games by player count, recently setting a concurrent player record of 150,000+, according to SteamDB. Today, May 24, the game passed 130,000 concurrent players to rank as the most-played non-free game on Steam.

Developer Stunlock’s previous game, Battlerite, has surpassed 6 million unique players on PC, but that game is free and V Rising is paid, so any comparison isn’t perfect or complete. Stunlock is owned by Chinese technology company Tencent, which has many, many investments in Western studios.

In direct collaboration with NVIDIA, ASUS has announced the world’s first 500 Hz G-Sync enabled gaming display during Computex 2022. The latest ROG Swift 24.1-inch display will feature a 500 Hz panel with a 1080p resolution and comes loaded with features such as NVIDA’s Reflex Analyzer and a new vibrance mode.

Designed more the fast-paced eSports titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant, Overwatch, and titles like these, the latest monitor from ASUS’s premium ROG Swift range now features an impressive 500 Hz E-TN display. Not to be confused with the standard TN panels, ASUS uses its new “eSport TN” technology, which ASUS claims offers 60% better response times.

In the above video embedded, ASUS and NVIDIA give a small demonstration of the benefits of moving to 500 Hz from 240 and 144 Hz. It tests things such as animation smoothness, ghosting, and system latency.

The ASUS ROG Swift 500Hz uses a 24.1-inch panel with a 1080p resolution. It also benefits from NVIDIA G-Sync and NVIDIA’s Reflex Analyzer, which is designed to detect system latency, measure mouse clicks when using an NVIDIA Reflex certified gaming mouse, and to measure the time for the resulting pixels to change on the screen.

ASUS also includes a new enhanced vibrance mode, which is specifically tuned for eSports and is built into the monitor’s firmware. ASUS claims this allows light to travel through the LCD crystals for better color vibrancy.

As we’ve seen from previous ROG Swift releases over the years, don’t expect this to be cheap or affordable for the everyday gamer. At the time of writing, ASUS hasn’t revealed the expected MSRP of the ROG Swift 500 Hz gaming monitor, nor does it state when it might hit retail shelves.

Call of Duty Season 3 Reloaded has arrived to Vanguard, bringing the new Sphere map, the H4 Blixen submachine gun, and a new Task Force Harpy operator. The patch notes for the update also include several major bug fixes.

Sledgehammer Games has addressed a few map exploits. Players can no longer reach unintended areas either near the Office location on the Berlin map or at the Dry Docks and Loading Dock areas of Sub Pens. Additionally, care packages will no longer fall through the stairs near the Palace Outer Walls location of the Castle map.

Two pieces of equipment were nerfed in multiplayer. Vanguard’s No 69 Stun Grenade tactical equipment received a damage reduction from 25 to 5, and the S-Mine 44 received a nerf specifically in hardcore mode to decrease the explosive damage from 50 to 10.

The patch notes also mention changes to Season 3’s trophy system equipment. Melee attacks will now properly deal damage to a trophy system, while Ammo Box Field Upgrades can now be destroyed by the equipment.

For Zombies mode, the developer provided gameplay adjustments for Vanguard’s special enemy type, Zaballa the Deceiver. Zaballa’s electrical attacks are now more lethal, but the update shortened Zaballa’s mask swap animation to reduce her invulnerability time.

Reticles earned in Zombies have also been adjusted so that a central dot is always present to assist with aiming. Additionally, the patch notes addressed an issue that previously prevented picking up blueprint versions of the Skal Crusher as a throwable weapon.

Exploring Elden Ring can be a blast with friends, and players will soon be able to do it with far fewer restrictions thanks to an upcoming mod.

The in-the-works “Seamless Co-op” mod for Elden Ring on PC will let up to four players party together to fight their way through the Lands Between, with no boundaries or barriers on where cooperators can go.

Normally, summoning players for co-op in Elden Ring (or in previous From Software developed RPG’s like Dark Souls) can be a bit of a pain, requiring the use of certain items and often coming with a whole heap of restrictions on where cooperating players can go and what they can do. A summoned cooperator that dies while in another player’s world is booted back to their own world, meaning maintaining a consistent co-op experience can be a challenge.

It’s those issues LukeYui’s upcoming Seamless Co-op mod looks to solve. Using the mod, players can journey anywhere in Elden Ring together with no restrictions, and dying doesn’t mean being booted to another world. Better yet, progress is shared between all party members–meaning a boss killed while playing co-op in the host’s world will also be dead when each player returns to their own individual world–and all loot earned while playing is shared between members of the group.

The mod will be available on Nexus Mods starting May 25, when it will launch in an open beta state. Seamless Co-Op is far from LukeYui’s first time modding From Software games. The modder is also the creator of the Dark Souls III anti-cheat mod Blue Sentinel as well as Sekiro Online, which adds PvP and co-op to From Software’s samurai-action title.

Modders have had a blast with Elden Ring since the game’s launch and are responsible for adding both easy and hard modes to the game alongside just plain fun mods like Star Wars inspired-armor and weapons. Mods are also responsible for letting fans see how particular enemies stack up when pitted against one another, like how Elden Ring’s most notorious boss, Malenia, fares against each of the game’s other major bosses.

Elden Ring has proven to be a huge success for From Software and publisher Bandai Namco, with the game even outselling Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: Vanguard.

My swordsman travels the world in search of adventure, battling monsters and helping those in need along the way. Multiple whimsical companions join in his quest, with the chubby and batlike Cluu acting as his right-hand monster. An entire world is succumbing to darkness, and it’s up to us to save the day–even if I don’t have to do much to make it happen. Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds is a meaty mobile RPG with hours of content, but a lot of that time can be spent letting the game do its own thing.

When the game begins, you’re dropped into a virtual reality game called Soul Divers–continuing the isekai-esque themes of Ni no Kuni as a whole (only without the time travel). You choose between five different classes: rogue, destroyer, witch, engineer, and the aforementioned swordsman. Each character can be customized with costumes and colors before given a name and sent into the adventure. From there it’s standard RPG fare: watch cutscenes, battle monsters, and explore the world.

What’s interesting here is how you interact with this world, or rather, how you don’t. By touching the active quest banner on the left side of the screen, your hero travels to the designated area and begins the quest. If the quest involves fighting monsters, the hero will engage and defeat them without so much as a single tap on the screen. As I’m writing this paragraph, my swordsman is wandering through the Kingdom of Evermore and its surrounding area looking for a familiar–the small companions that fight at his side–for a quest.

You choose your class by demanding one of these people leave this lovely picnic early.

It’s odd, sure, but in a way it’s a cool idea: By allowing the player to make progress even when they might be needed with other tasks, the game can be treated like having the TV on while working from home. Granted it’s not entirely autonomous; there seems to be no way to have the in-game dialogue progress on its own, meaning every dialogue box must be tapped to proceed. Most questlines require at least a little bit of talking, so you need to throw the occasional tap at the screen to continue. If you’re grinding monsters in a dungeon, however, you can simply tell the game to engage and leave it alone. In writing it sounds bogus–why would a game offer a way to not play it–but in practice it’s actually clever. I personally have logged a ton of hours into the game that simply would not have been possible without this option.

When you do have the ability to focus solely on it, though, Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds offers a ton of things to do outside of the main questline. Reputation quests make you more popular in specific zones, opening up more opportunities. Bounties sometimes spawn and give you a massive challenge in exchange for great rewards. The Labyrinth of Dreams is a repeating dungeon with 150 levels to clear from the jump. The Familiar’s Cradle is a mini tower defense game where you repel waves of enemy boar soldiers–called Boarriors, which is delightful–in order to earn new Familiars to bring into battle. These are just a few examples, but it’s easy to see this game is ripe with content.

Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds features plenty of views like this.

Controlling the action is simple when you’re manually moving the action along, thanks to clear and easily understood touch controls. Movement is on the left side of the screen, attacks and abilities are on the right, and Familiars can be switched mid-battle via the bottom of the screen. Menus are easy to navigate, and the directions for every mission or side quest are crystal clear. The game is incredibly inviting to new players, be they new to RPGS, new to Ni no Kuni, or new to video games in general.

When you’re not roaming an endless dungeon or auto-completing quests, there’s an array of customization and power-up options available to make your character stronger. You can earn skills, upgrade your class to gain new attacks, upgrade your equipment to boost your stats, find different class-specific costumes to wear, and the list goes on. Eventually you’ll be so powerful that not only can your hero fight your battles for you, they’ll be able to do so without suffering a single point of damage. If you have to take a rest, feel free; not only will the game drop you right where you left off, but it gives you a reward for taking a rest too. Nothing like coming back into a game only to find you’re 10,000 Gold richer simply because it was bedtime.

The thing that brought me here is tapping the top left corner of the screen.

For a mobile MMO, Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds offers a lot to any player who might venture into its world. There’s plenty of monsters to fight and multiple arenas to do so, there’s an engaging narrative through-line that will make you want to learn more, and the five different classes cater to various styles of play, whether you’re a straightforward swordsman or a dashing rogue. In the hours I’ve spent with the game I never felt I was grinding for levels or stuck on a particular mission; Cross Worlds does a great job of keeping me engaged even when I couldn’t be.

Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds will be available on iOS and Android on May 25. Players can pre-register and pre-download the game now.

During Computex 2022 in Taipei, Taiwan, MSI unveiled four AM5 motherboards designed for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors, which will be landing later this year. Currently announced are the premium MEG X670E Ace, the mid-ranged MPG X670E Carbon WIFI, and the more business-focused Pro X670-P WIFI motherboards.

Hot on the heels of AMD’s announcement that its highly anticipated Ryzen 7000 processors for desktops will be dropping sometime in the fall, motherboard vendors have been slowly unveiling what boards we can expect to see at launch. MSI has dropped some limited information on four new AM5 boards, including two from its flagship MEG series, one from its gaming-focused MPG family, and one from its more affordable Pro series.

Here is what we know so far:

Although MSI has announced there will be an X670E Godlike, we currently don’t have any images for this model. As we know from previous motherboard launches, the MSI X670E Godlike will be the company’s flagship AM5 board for Ryzen 7000 processors, with a large E-ATX sized PCB and a wave of high-end enthusiast-level features. One interesting feature of the MEG series boards is a front panel USB 3.2 G2x2 Type-C header with support for 60 W power delivery.

MSI hasn’t specified much or distinguished much of its announced features between either model. Still, MSI does say the MEG series for AM5 includes a monstrous 26-phase power delivery (24+2) with 105 A smart power stages and a stacked fin array heatsink to help cool it. MSI also states that the MEG series will include a large metal backplate with up to four M.2 slots onboard and an M.2 Xpander-Z Gen5 dual add-on card supporting two PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs. Whether these features are specific to the entire MEG series for AM5 remains to be seen.

The MSI MPG X670E Carbon WIFI uses a carbon black finish across the board, with two full-length PCIe 5.0 slots. MSI states the X670E Carbon WIFI will include four PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots and that the board will be powered by a 20-phase (18+2) power delivery with 90 A power stages.

MSI’s fourth and final model is the Pro X670-P WIFI motherboard, which is primarily aimed at SMEs and users looking to build a more professional type system. MSI says the X670-P WIFI will include a 16-phase (14+2) power delivery, with a single PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot and 2.5 GbE/Wi-Fi 6E networking.

At the time of writing, MSI hasn’t provided any information regarding controller sets at this time, or how much each of the four models might cost. MSI will likely give more details closer to the launch of the AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs, which are expected to hit retail shelves in Q4 2022.

A new trailer for Destiny 2’s latest season, Season of the Haunted, has gone live and shows off more of how the Solar 3.0 subclass has been designed for the dangers that lie ahead. Similar to the recent revamp of the Void subclass, this subclass features customizable Aspects and Fragments in its design, with these skills being focused on giving Guardians some extra firepower when they’re out on patrol.

Bungie says that it wanted to deliver on the “fire god” fantasy for Solar 3.0, marrying the warmth of the sun with the overall lethality of that celestial influence. Warlocks can still heal allies and rain devastation down on foes as “Pyromancer-Archangels,” Hunters have the best weapon damage options with Solar, and Titans are designed to be siege engines that burn everything down around them.

One of the new interesting elements that Titans can take advantage of is Consecration, which is focused on ensuring that one priority target on the battlefield dies. A combination of sliding and doing an uppercut with a pair of Solar hammers that ends with a massive slam attack, Titans now have a devastating combo to unleash.

For Hunters, Gunpowder Gamble sees the class throw out a triple trip-mine bundle that can stick to enemies and walls before violently exploding. If you have excellent aim, you can even shoot it while it’s in the air so that it explodes early. Warlocks get Generator Snap, a fingersnap that sends out a barrage of solar energy that can clear the battlefield of enemies or target a single enemy for an explosive chain detonation effect.

Season of the Haunted begins today and will run until August 23. You can jump into the new activities after the Bungie finishes maintenance on Destiny 2 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.

The top 10 most-played video games of Q1 2022 have been revealed, and 2022’s best-selling game of the year so far in the US–Elden Ring–did not make it into the chart.

NPD analyst Mat Piscatella shared a list of the most-played games in the US for the January-March period, ranked by year of initial release, and sourced to the NPD’s PlayerPulse survey. As you can see in the chart below, half of the games in the top 10 were not released this decade. As for Elden Ring, it ranked 20th overall for Q1 2022, outpaced by titles like Skyrim (released originally in 2011), the MMO World of Warcraft, and Rocket League.

As for games that made it into the top 10, Minecraft, GTA V, The Sims 4, Fortnite, Among Us, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Madden NFL 22, and NBA 2K22 all charted. Again, the graphic below is ranked by year of initial release, not overall popularity. And the games were decided by the percentage of panelists in the NPD’s survey who played in the past month. The list does not include mobile games, which are more popular than console and PC games.

Despite Elden Ring not making it into the top 10 most-played games in the US for Q1 2022, it is not only 2022’s best-selling game so far but the best-selling game of the past year, even topping Call of Duty: Vanguard.

*Percentage of Panelists Who Have Played in the Past Month

Piscatella shared this list and wider commentary in the wake of renewed discussion and debate online in some circles about the popularity and viability of subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and others.

“The big evergreen games, and the huge live service games with deeply embedded social hooks, are gravity wells for player attention, time, and spending,” Piscatella said. “New games big and small face a daunting challenge trying to break through.”

Piscatella went on to say that Game Pass and the new version of PS Plus should help games find an audience. “Why don’t more AAA games launch day 1 on sub services? They should. But high dev costs and the marketing budgets needed to try and break through this wall of evergreens require aggressive sales targets to get through greenlight. Targets that often are too aggressive, or overly so,” he said. “So folks are forced into ‘what we need to believe’ scenarios for AAA publishing, bets that sales performance will be on the higher end of the possible spectrum, or even outlier. This would require those targets be met for sub service inclusion.”

In this backdrop, the choice becomes obvious, Piscatella said. “Do the traditional release, see if the game is lightning in the proverbial sales bottle. If so, great. If not, then investigate ancillary revenue streams like sub service inclusion or more traditional discounting, among other means,” he explained. “Including a game on a sub service is something not everyone can or wants to do. There are thousands of games released every year, and only a select handful make their way to these services. So blanket statements of sub services good or sub services bad are missing the point.”

Piscatella added: “These services are another tool in the belt for trying to get games funded, released, and to help them break through the barriers of the big evergreen titles. And new games coming into this market need all the help they can get to try and do this.”

Following on from AMD’s official announcement during Computex 2022 that its highly anticipated Ryzen 7000 series of processors will land sometime in Q4 2022, ASUS has lifted the lid on its flagship AM5 motherboard. Based on AMD’s ‘Extreme’ X670 chipset variant, the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard is fully loaded with many features, including PCIe 5.0, support for DDR5 memory, and large 22-phase power delivery for enthusiasts.

Designed to offer leading-edge performance for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors, the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, ASUS has gone all out with a premium controller set and a wide array of features for users to get the most out of the new AM5 socket. This includes a typical ASUS ROG design with plenty of RGB LED lighting and its latest Q-Design features designed to make installation as easy as possible. It also benefits from an AniMe Matrix 2 LED display and ASUS’s LiveDash OLED for maximum customizability.

Q-Design includes new release buttons for the PCIe slots and right-angled connectors on the right-hand side of the board for better cable management.

The ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme’s main features include a large 22-phase (20+2) power delivery with premium 110 A power stages. At the same time, networking options consist of a Marvell AQtion 10 GbE controller, a secondary Intel 2.5 GbE controller, and Intel’s Wi-Fi 6E CNVi. For audio, ASUS uses a ROG SupremeFX ALC4082 HD audio codec with a premium ESS Sabre ES9218PQ DAC for ultra-low distortion.

Although ASUS hasn’t revealed a complete list of specifications, we know the X670E Extreme will feature two full-length PCIe 5.0 slots operating at x16/x0 or x8/x8, with a smaller PCIe slot at the bottom. It also benefits from five M.2 slots, with two of these conforming to the latest PCIe 5.0 specification and adding USB4 ports and a USB 3.2 G2x2 Type-C front panel header for connectivity. ASUS also includes a ROG M.2 add-in card next to the four DDR5 memory slots, although we don’t know what type of drives these will support at the time of writing.

As we previously mentioned, ASUS hasn’t unveiled the full specifications list of the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard, nor how much it will cost. We expect ASUS to reveal more details as we head closer to AMD’s Ryzen 7000 launch, expected sometime in the fall of 2022.
