Nintendo released a statement warning customers to cease usage of the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. The statement warns against potential viral attack.

Nintendo tweeted the information out on their official Japanese account, as first noticed by GoNintendo and more extensively written up by Nintendo Life. The peripheral was released back in 2005, and Japan got an exclusive version, called the Wi-Fi Network Adapter, in 2008. In those bygone times, Wi-Fi was not as common as it is today. The USB Connector plugged into a PC connected to broadband and allowed Nintendo devices to have access to the network. Those without Wi-Fi could, with a little extra cash, connect their devices and enjoy online features.

Clearly, Nintendo has concerns that the device is a security threat or liability and encourages users to cease usage and switch to a different network device. You may also not have a good reason to keep your Wii or DS online in the first place. The Wii Shop Channel shut down back in January 2019. For several months in 2022, Wii users couldn’t download past purchases, though the feature quietly returned.

These devices last shipped out in 2010, for the Connecter, and 2013, for the Adapter. So the chances that you are still using the device to connect your Wii or DS to Wi-Fi is probably slim. However, if you are, it’s probably best to heed Nintendo’s advice.

On the same day that Ubisoft delayed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and a “smaller” premium game, the publisher also confirmed that it has canceled four games.

These include the Splinter Cell VR title and Ghost Recon: Frontline, as well as two unannounced titles that Ubisoft did not disclose.

While the Splinter Cell VR game has been canned, fans of the series are getting a remake of the original game. As for Ghost Recon: Frontline, this was a free-to-play battle royale game. As for the other two unannounced games that have now been canceled, it’s anyone’s guess as to what they might be.

Ubisoft did not give a reason for the cancellation of these four titles. Game development is a highly iterative process and games get canceled all the time, even if we never hear about them. For example, Blizzard cancels about 50% of the games that it begins development on.

While Ubisoft has canceled four games and delayed two others, the company has a number of big projects coming up, including Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Skull and Bones, both of which are releasing this year. In September, Ubisoft will reveal “the future of Assassin’s Creed,” and many believe this pertains to the rumored new Assassin’s Creed game featuring Valhalla’s Basim.

Bungie has officially revealed the date for its next big Destiny 2 showcase, which will be broadcast on August 23. These showcases are typically big events for the game, as they chart the future of the sci-fi shooter, what fans can expect from the ongoing narrative, and how the game will evolve in the months to come. It’s worth noting that August 23 is also the start date of the as-of-yet untitled Season 18.

You can see the announcement teaser in the embedded tweet below, although if you haven’t yet finished The Witch Queen campaign, it is loaded with spoilers regarding the reveal of Destiny 2’s primary antagonist.

Witness what’s next.

— Destiny 2 (@DestinyTheGame) July 21, 2022

Bungie’s previous showcase for Destiny 2 was largely focused on The Witch Queen expansion, but the event did take deep dive into the future of the series and revealed that the Light and Darkness saga will end in 2024. Bungie also took the time to talk about technical changes to Destiny 2, the state of the game, and new content that would be added to the game in The Witch Queen.

With The Witch Queen expansion live, the Season of the Risen over, and the Season of the Haunted drawing to a close, Destiny 2’s storyline is slowly preparing for the Lightfall and The Final Shape expansions. Season of the Haunted’s Sever storyline ended with The Witness gaining a new disciple in the form of deposed Cabal emperor Calus, while recent events in the solar system have seen a new alliance forged with the Cabal empire, the Eliksni, and the revelation that Savathun and her Hive brood had become Lightbearers.

Currently, Guardians are taking some time off in the Solstice event, a new event where customizable armor is up for grabs, players can earn a hilariously broken hand cannon, and there are plenty of challenges to complete that will unlock a new seal.

If you’ve been looking to refresh your Switch library lately, the good news is that this week has plenty of games to choose from. There’s a big number of new titles up for sale on the eShop, ranging from the rebirth of a classic RPG to the next installment in the high-speed Gunvolt series.

Live A Live is one of the big highlights this week, a remake of the 1994 classic that has been updated with sharper 2D visuals and high-definition assets. The key hook of the game is that each chapter of its lengthy story stars a different character, each with their own set of abilities and mechanics that’ll change how you approach the various storylines. The game was also noteworthy for being a launchpad for several of the people who worked on it, including Chrono Trigger co-director Takashi Tokata.

“Live A Live not only holds up well, but manages to feel unique, compelling, and excitingly original even when compared to its modern contemporaries,” Heidi Kemps wrote in GameSpot’s Live A Live review.

For fans of 2D action, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 arrives to deliver some lightning-quick and stylish action. You’ll be able to switch between new star Kirin and series protagonist Gunvolt on the fly, and one of the new gameplay mechanics includes Image Pulses, collectable summons and equipment called forth from Gunvolt’s own memories.

In the MOBA department, this week marks the one-year anniversary of Pokemon Unite. There’ll be plenty to celebrate as the game adds new Unite licenses, Holowear and gifts for logging in, the start of Battle Pass Season 9, and an Anniversary Cake Challenge to sink your teeth into. If you’re into retro games, Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium is also worth checking out as it includes some of the best fighting games of the 1990s, including several Darkstalkers and Street Fighter Alpha titles.

There are a few other odd games debuting on the Switch as well this week. Bricky to Me is a cute puzzle-platformer with randomly-generated rooms to work through, Arsonist Heaven is an action platformer presented in a retro pixel art style, and there’s a new Deadliest Catch game where you get to take part in dangerous sea races and catch as many crabs as you dare. No, really.

After decades of games that have touched every generation of Nintendo’s hardware, The Legend of Zelda series has become ingrained in popular culture. Whether it’s Link’s signature green tunic, the iconic Triforce emblem, or the sound of an Ocarina directing the flow of time, the legacy of that little hero is one that has been celebrated by fans over the years. And if you’ve got someone who dreams of visiting Hyrule one day, then at least you can prepare them for the next trip to that fantasy land with some neat merchandise.

From clothing to backpacks, Switch covers to custom controllers and more, we’ve rounded up some of the best Legend of Zelda merchandise that you can get your hands on today. Remember, it’s dangerous to go alone without a T-shirt that has the Triforce of courage on it!

Legend of Zelda fused bead kit

Beads are fantastic for a number of decorative reasons, especially when they kind of resemble classic video game pixels. Perler Beads has noticed this and whipped up a collection of over 2,000 beads in a kit that can be used to create Link and other Legend of Zelda characters, perfect for any gaming fan in your family who’s also dabbles in craft hobbies on the side. You can then put magnets on the back of the figures and stick them on your fridge!

The Legend of Zelda Art Books and Compendiums

With decades of games, lore, and adventures, the storyline of The Legend of Zelda happens to be rather gigantic. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of books and compendiums out there that help piece together the timelines of various games, fill in gaps and provide a comprehensive look at Link’s many quests. Hyrule Historia is a gigantic tome to read through, its companion book Art and Artifacts provides a deep dive into the art of the series, and Creating A Champion chronicles the development of Breath of the Wild through gorgeous art. Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition of The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia has an iconic cover.

Hyrule Historia Arts and Artifacts Encyclopedia Encyclopedia Deluxe Edition Creating a Champion

Legend of Zelda manga collection

Alternatively, grab the Legend of Zelda manga series that tells the story of Link and his journey to find the spiritual stones that hold the key to the Triforce. Beautifully illustrated by Akira Himekawa, the manga tells the stories of a number of classic Zelda games. It comes in multiple different editions, including a gorgeous hardcover set that has a treasure chest box.

First 4 Figures collectible Link statue

If your desk is looking a bit sparse, liven it up with some Breath of the Wild art. This particular statue from First 4 Figures features Link with his bow drawn and is wonderfully detailed. As an added bonus the base also has an LED function that lights up, giving the collectible a neat glow through ancient Hyrule text.

First 4 Figures collectible Zelda statue

Link on his own makes for a great collectible statue, but he needs to be paired up with Princess Zelda to create a dynamic duo combination in your home. Like the Link statue, Zelda’s recreation features vibrant colors, plenty of detail, and an LED light-up base for that added touch of class.

Legend of Zelda classic NES title T-shirt

When you’re shopping for a video game fan in your life, you can seldom go wrong with a T-Shirt that speaks to their fandom. Based on the original Legend of Zelda main menu screen from the NES days, this design is a striking ode to the past and is officially endorsed by Nintendo.

Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild T-shirt

For newer fans of The Legend of Zelda, this Breath of the Wild T-Shirt is on point to deliver some cotton goodness. It features Link’s latest incarnation in a stunning print that’s locked and loaded to fire an arrow of light.

Triforce hoodie

Get ready for those cold months with a thick hoodie that has a print of the legendary Triforce on it. The print itself has a classy look to it, plus the front pockets are perfect for either keeping your hands warm or storing your Switch inside of it when you’re out and about.

The Legend of Zelda ankle socks 5-pack

Few of us want to admit it, but we’ll reach an age where we’re happy to get socks as a gift. Especially when said socks wrap your feet in glorious green colors, Triforce symbols, and protective cotton Hyrulian shields.

Geeknet’s The Legend of Zelda 15 days of socks

For even more socky goodness, Geeknet offers a pack of 15 socks in one bundle that’s got plenty of Legend of Zelda symbols, colors, and motifs sewn into their designs. That’ll keep your feet warm for half a month at the very least. Or a full month, if you regularly wash them.

Bioworld Legend of Zelda beanie

When your body and feet are covered, the next purchase to complete a Legend of Zelda ensemble look is a trendy beanie, naturally. Bioworld’s Legend of Zelda headgear keeps things simple with a Triforce emblem and a toasty warm construction that should fit just about any size head.

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess jewelry

Diamonds are so last century because any real fan of Zelda will be looking to elegantly show off their love for the series with some themed jewelry. Made from high-quality metal alloys, this jewelry won’t break the bank either and comes packaged in a beautiful wooden box.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time makeup brush set

I don’t know much about make-up, but I do know that applying cosmetic products with a collection of Zelda-inspired sword handle brushes is very cool. Plus, these brushes have intricate designs, and the set is reasonably priced.

Master Sword Light

In Zelda lore, the Master Sword is a righteous weapon of power that can be used to seal evil away whenever it threatens Hyrule. While such a weapon doesn’t exist in this mortal realm, the next best thing is a replica of it that has been turned into a nightlight and can be wielded to banish any nearby darkness in your room.

3D Illusion Legend of Zelda lamp

Another great option to keep the shadows at bay, this 3D illusion night light doesn’t just provide reassuring illumination, it looks like pure art from the Hyrule region when it’s turned on.

The Legend of Zelda metal coasters

We’re not saying that anyone will use these–because who wants to cover this fine art up with a beverage–but at least you’ll have a great new set of coasters to whip out when you have company.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild plushies

In these tough times, there’s one thing you can always count on and that’s the soothing power of a plushie. Whether you want one or several to hug, Little Buddy has several options that are cute, officially licensed, and look great on a shelf when they’re not being used for stress relief.

Breath of the Wild – Princess Zelda Breath of the Wild – Link Breath of the Wild – Bokoblin Breath of the Wild – Korok Wind Waker – Princess Zelda Wind Waker – Link Wind Waker – Tingle Wind Waker – Makar Korok

Link Nendoroid figures

Nendoroid figures happen to hit a perfect middle-ground for collectible charm and highly poseable fun. These Legend of Zelda figures live up to the high standard of the Good Smile company and are essential for any Breath of the Wild or Wind Waker collection thanks to their stunning colors, amazing detail, and the variety of action poses that you can strike with them.

Hori Legend of Zelda Joy-Con

Never discount how handy it is to have extra Joy-Con, especially when you can display them as a line of collectible art peripherals. Hori’s officially licensed Legend of Zelda left Joy-Con looks especially great, as it sports rich Hyrule artwork and a terrific D-pad that can handle plenty of frantic finger action. Anyone who wants a traditional D-pad for their Switch should pick one up.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Edition Switch Joy-Con

You don’t need to be a Zelda fan to appreciate these Joy-Con controllers that are dressed in royal blue Skyward Sword colors, as this design is pure regal splendor. These and will perfectly complement the gaming setup of any Zelda fan.

PowerA wireless Legend of Zelda controller

If you’d prefer something more traditional, PowerA’s wireless controller packs everything you’d need in a regular device and adds a delightful layer of Zelda-inspired art on top of it. It also has built-in motion controls, button-mapping features, and a solid battery life.

PDP Breath of the Wild wired Switch controller

PDP’s option for a Zelda-inspired wired controller has back paddles and motion controls. For its artwork, you get Link in a heroic pose, flanked by black and gold color textures that wouldn’t look out of place in Breath of the Wild.

Legend of Zelda Switch carry case

For when you need the world to know that your Switch is loaded with Legend of Zelda games, this decorative carry case should send the right message. Not just a good-looking case to store your Switch inside of, it’s also packed with features that’ll keep your console protected.

PDP Gaming Breath of the Wild travel case

A bigger option for the Switch gamer on the go, PDP’s travel case has room for the console and pretty much everything else as well, including the dock. Plus, it also sports the same lovely Breath of the Wild artwork that you’ll find on the PDP controller we mentioned earlier.

Link’s shield green canvas backpack

Finally, there’s a proper backpack that you can use to show everyone behind you what your favorite game franchise is. Green canvas, a Hyrule shield, and plenty of storage space makes this perfect for any trip.

Switch Legend of Zelda skin stickers

When you want to customize your Switch, doing so is remarkably simple thanks to some easy-to-apply decals. DSLeego has skins for both the regular Switch and the newer OLED model, with each design giving you plenty of Breath of the Wild key art to apply to your console, dock, and Joy-Con.

Nintendo Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda

Is your available pocket real estate space at a dangerously low level? Then take this Link back to the past with Nintendo’s Zelda Game & Watch. This adorable little handheld comes with three classic Zelda games: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Link’s Awakening. It has a sharp (albeit tiny) LCD screen, a lovely design, and comes with a built-in display stand to show it off.

Zelda and Loftwing Amiibo

Nintendo is basically the only big game in town when it comes to Toys to Life merchandise, and with Amiibo that look this delightful, it’s not hard to see why. This Zelda and Loftwing Amiibo is a charming addition to any collection, and if you happen to own Skyward Sword HD, you can use it to enjoy fun in-game extra features.

The Legend of Zelda playing cards

Classic playing cards are a relic of a less-cool past, but these Legend of Zelda cards put a modern spin into the deck. Created to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series, they’ll make any poker night more fascinating when you start dealing out Links and Ganondorfs in each hand.

The Legend Of Zelda : Breath of the Wild collector’s box

When you haven’t had your fill of Breath of the Wild, this collector’s box should hit the spot. Especially if you use the included Bento box to serve yourself a tasty lunch. Aside from that, there’s also a lovely water bottle, journal, messenger bag, and more all featuring familiar symbols from the legendary game.

Culture Fly: The Legend of Zelda collector box

Inside of this The Legend of Zelda collector’s box that is exclusive to Best Buy, you’ll get a cozy blanket, water bottle, canvas pouch, statue, and a notebook. A great way to keep warm in fandom style.

Memories are collected in Stray as you move through the world. They are represented by glowing blue energy that B-12 can gather to recover some of its lost memories. There are 27 in total, five of which are automatically obtained as you proceed through the story.

Chapter Select is available, so no Memories are missable, although you will have to replay the entire chapter to obtain any you missed.

Story Memories (Automatically Obtained)

Memory 01

This memory is automatically obtained as part of the story. Right after you meet up with B-12 in The Flat, you’ll go outside and hop in the bucket to cross the long rope. On the other side, you’ll find a mural of a sandy beach and B-12 will pick up the postcard, completing the first memory.

Memory 02

This memory is automatically obtained as part of the story. After connecting the repaired transceiver, B-12 will remember the original purpose of the city, unlocking this memory.

Memory 03

This memory is automatically obtained as part of the story. After you escape the Zurks chasing you away from the eye and reach Antvillage, you’ll find the Memory across the bridge.

Memory 04

This memory is automatically obtained as part of the story. After you climb Antvillage and take the pipe to the subway, B-12 will tell you about transportation, unlocking Memory 04.

Memory 05

This memory is automatically obtained as part of the story. In the Control Room chapter, you’ll proceed from the Subway to the upper area outside the Sealed City gate. After helping B-12 bypass security, you’ll enter the Control Room, where you’ll obtain the Memory.

Slums Memories

Memory 06

After meeting Guardian, the citizens in the Safe Zone will emerge from their hiding spots. Down the stairs from Guardian, there is a vending machine.

Climb the crates next to it and continue up to the roof, then hop across the gap to the building with the Chroma Green sign, then continue up until you reach the slanted rooftop to find a dead robot and the Memory.

Memory 07

Memory 07 can be purchased from The Market, just down the stairs to the right of Guardian, the first robot you meet in Stray.

To obtain it, you’ll have to trade three Energy Drink Cans, which can be found by fiddling with the vending machines scattered around The Slums.

Once you have three, come back and inspect the covered object at The Market and show the merchant the Energy Drink Cans, then you’ll be able to inspect the picture to gain the Memory.

Memory 08

This Memory can be found upstairs in Dufer Bar on the main street of The Slums. Dufer Bar is located between Guardian and Elliot Programming.

Head inside Dufer Bar, then go up the stairs on your left. At the top of the stairs, turn right and you’ll find a plant. Inspect it to obtain the memory.

Memory 09

Memory 09 can be found in Momo’s flat, which is at the top of the tower in The Slums, near the orange sign.

Once you gain entry to Momo’s flat, head past Momo and through the hanging beads into their bedroom, then turn left.

Memory 10

This Memory is located in the alley where you find Kosmo’s shop. Facing Guardian, turn around and run down the stairs, then take a right before you reach Dufer Bar.

Follow the alley as it bends left, then run all the way to the end and climb the stairs.

Inspect the wall to obtain the Memory.

Memory 11

This Memory is located on a ledge in the alley just to the left of Morusque, the guitar-playing Sheet Music turn-in person.

Jump up the dumpster cans and ledges to reach it, or you can snag it on your way down from Notebook 02.

Memory 12

This Memory can be found in Elliot Programming. Read the note on the door to unlock the ability to knock on the door.

Scratch at it and Nestor will open the door. Head through the door while it’s open and move to the other side of the room to find the stairs. Go upstairs and turn left to find a tree, then inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Rooftops Memories

Memory 13

Memory 13 is on the main path during the first section of The Rooftops. After passing the second group of Zurks, where you can cross a hanging I-beam, you’ll be able to hop up to an upper level where this neon sign is leaning up against a wall, amidst some wreckage. Inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Memory 14

Memory 14 is on the main path during the second section of The Rooftops. After climbing up the Zurk-infested tower and reaching the third level, you’ll find a hack gate with a rolling barrel and a swarm of Zurks inside.

Before releasing them, run past the fenced-in area, beyond the hanging I-beam, and hop up on the ledge at the end of the area to find a Neco Corporation sign, then inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Dead End Memories

Memory 15

Memory 15 is located just after you get the Outsider badge and enter the Dead End. Once you go through the gate alone, cross the small bridge and turn left.

Run to the end of the road and inspect the large sliding door to obtain the Memory.

Memory 16

Memory 16 is found after the hectic chase sequence. After you are launched from the cart and injured, hop up the pipes to reach the next level, then walk straight to the end of the road.

Duck through the peeled-back section of chain-link fence and turn right to find a robot. Inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Memory 17

Memory 17 can be found in Doc’s home in the Dead End. Once you jump through the window and talk to him, hop down off the desk and approach the mannequin. Inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Sewers Memories

Memory 18

Memory 18 can be found in The Sewers. After Momo opens the gate and you have to go on without him, you’ll jump up onto a walkway and turn left. Follow the hallway as it bends to the right, then take the first left.

Here you’ll find a small bunch of Zurk pods. Destroy the pods and the Zurks with your UV light, then jump up into the pipe on the left. Follow it through to the other side, then hop across to the railing and inspect the glowing light to obtain the Memory.

Memory 19

Memory 19 is found in The Sewers. After running through the areas with hatching pods, you’ll drop down to a pipe to continue.

Turn left and hop up the boxes on the side to reach a pipe, then head through it to find the Memory, near a Zurk nest with many eyes.

Antvillage Memories

Memory 20

Memory 20 is located in Antvillage on the lowest level. Find Isaac, who is sitting on the couch on the lowest level of the tree city, then turn right and you’ll find the Memory on the wall.

Midtown Memories

Memory 21

Memory 21 is located in Midtown. After running up the stairs next to the train, duck through the chain-link fence and turn right to find a small library and a robot.

Inspect the library to obtain the Memory.

Memory 22

Memory 22 can be found in Midtown, in the alley behind the club with the Bouncer standing out front. Circle around the back, where a robot is sweeping, then climb up the air conditioning units on the side of the building near the blue neon sign.

Climb up towards the left, where an orange sign is lit up, and you’ll find a small nook. Inspect the seating area in the back to obtain the memory.

Memory 23

Memory 23 can be found in Midtown, in a small barbershop near the large hologram and the wig shop.

Either hop through the teller window of the shop, or squeeze through the chain-link on the front door, then hop up on the shelves on the left. Jump to the small gap near the ceiling, then crawl around to the right to find the Memory.

Memory 24

Memory 24 can be found in Midtown in a small burger joint near the hologram, and across the street from the barbershop where you find Memory 23.

Head inside the shop and go to the back. Hop up onto the counters, then jump up to the ledge where potted plants are sitting. Knock them off gleefully, then aim the camera up and hop up into the broken section of the ceiling to find the Memory.

Memory 25

Memory 25 can be found in Midtown after you obtain the battery from the restricted area, but it cannot be obtained after you finish the Nightclub sequence.

Instead of returning to the Residence to meet Clementine, head back into town. Near the hologram, there is an office where police officers are talking.

Previously, the door was closed, but now it is open, so head inside and you’ll find a picture of a Sentinel. Inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Memory 26

Memory 26 is located in the Nightclub in Midtown. After obtaining the battery and deciphering Clementine’s notes, it will be revealed that she has gone to the Nightclub with Blazer.

Head back to the Nightclub, then circle to the back alley to the right. Climb up the air conditioning units on the wall opposite the club, then circle around to the right. Pass the cowboy robot in the purple coat, then cross the railing to reach the outer wall of the Nightclub building.

Turn right and talk to the robot in the window and he’ll let you in. Hop down and go to the bar, then stand on the dumbwaiter to reach the lower level, where you’ll find a table with drinks on it in the middle of a storage room. Inspect it to obtain the Memory.

Jail Memories

Memory 27

Memory 27 is located in the Jail. After reuniting with B-12, unlocking the gate for Clementine, and trapping a Sentinel in a cell, head through the gate Clementine unlocks and turn right to find a robot.

Inspect it to obtain the final non-automatic Memory.

First announced just back in February, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the long-awaited next entry in Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade series. Based on the footage we’ve seen so far, the open-world RPG seemingly follows the massive footsteps of its predecessors, offering players a fascinating world to explore that’s filled with quests, a touching story, and memorable characters. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming title ahead of its release.

Release date

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set to release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on July 29, 2022. Interestingly enough, this release date is actually two months earlier than Nintendo originally announced, a pretty rare feat in the games industry.

The story

Set in a futuristic society torn apart by war, it feels safe to call Xenoblade Chronicles 3 the most dystopian entry in the Xenoblade series. The game primarily examines two factions–Keves and Agnus–who are in constant battle with one another. These battles are fought by young soldiers who are artificially created and given 10 years–referred to as “terms” in-game–to live. However, such a violent lifestyle means hardly any of them even live that long.

On both Keves and Agnus exist special units called Off-Seers who are in charge of sending the spirits of fallen soldiers off to the great beyond through playing a special song. The trailers first introduce us to Noah, a flute-wielding Off-Seer serving the nation of Keves, before also showcasing Mio, an Agnian Off-Seer currently in her tenth year.

Shortly after the game begins, Noah and his two allies, Eunie and Lanz, find themselves caught in an even bigger battle than the one between Keves and Agnus. Ultimately, the trio is forced to team up with their former enemies to take on a bigger threat, though just what that threat might be is still unclear.

The characters

While the game’s story might focus primarily on Off-Seers Noah and Mio, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 features six playable characters: Noah, Mio, Eunie, Lanz, Sena, and Taion.

Noah, Eunie, and Lanz are childhood friends who hail from Keves, the black-clad, warring society driven by technology. Mio, Sena, and Taion, on the other hand, call the mystical nation of Agnus home. While these two factions might be caught in a never-ending cycle of war and ruin, it would seem some inciting incident–and the reveal of a true and common enemy–ultimately unites the former enemies.

As of yet, not much is known about these characters, though it would appear Eunie and Lanz boast more confident and fiery demeanors compared to Sena and the scholarly Taion.

The gameplay

In our hands-on preview with the game, we wrote that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 could be Nintendo’s biggest open-world game thus far. While the game begins fairly linearly, it quickly opens up to reveal a massive world filled with quests, crafting, optional bosses, and more.

Like its predecessors, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 features an MMO-style combat system where party members are divided into three main classes: attackers, defenders, and healers. To translate these roles into ones traditionally found in MMOs, attackers are your DPS, defenders are tanks, and healers are support. However, your ability to customize your party doesn’t stop there. In addition to these main classes, your party members can also choose from various subclasses, each with their own unique weapons and outfits.

Best of all, once you have your roles assigned and choose which character you want to control, you no longer are confined to solely battling with that character like you were in previous Xenoblade Chronicles games. In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, you are permitted to rotate between your six party members mid-battle, allowing you to execute powerful combos using your skills–referred to in-game as Arts–and battle more strategically than ever before.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 also contains the Ouroboros ability, which allows two compatible party members to fuse together into a giant mech-like creature. Based on the trailers, it seems safe to assume Noah and Mio share this intense connection–and it’s likely the other four party members do as well.

Trailers

Revealed during February 2022’s Nintendo Direct, the first trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gave us a brief look at the game’s war-torn world, its characters, and what exploration will look like. This trailer also included a September 2022 release date, which was later moved forward.

Following the more narrative-heavy first trailer, Xenoblade Chronicle 3’s second trailer focused a lot more on combat. In addition to showing off the game’s MMO-style battle system, it also gave us our first look at Ouroboros abilities, a strange power that allows two linked party members to merge together into a mech-like being that looks straight out of Neon Genesis Evangelion. This trailer also revealed the game’s release date: July 29, 2022.

During June 2022’s Nintendo Direct, Monolith Soft released the most comprehensive look at Xenoblade Chronicles 3 yet. The trailer opens with a closer look at a mysterious and assuredly evil organization before diving into some of the game’s heavier lore. In this trailer, it was revealed that our party members only live for ten years–or terms–before ultimately dying. During this decade, they are bound to serve their country’s military, meaning many die long before their time is officially up. Based on this trailer, it seems like Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s primary theme is life, and how we inject meaning into it.

Another trailer was just released and provides an overview of the game’s combat, structure, and plot.

So, do I need to play Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 before I start 3?

Nope! Like oh-so-many JRPGs, while the games are a part of the same series–and are ripe for dedicated fans to theorize how they could be connected–the Xenoblade Chronicle games are not explicitly tied to one another.

Oddly enough, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 isn’t even the third game in the series, as Xenoblade Chronicles X exists as well. To quote Monolith Soft director Tetsuya Takahashi, “The ‘Xeno’ name […] really just exists to make it clear that these are Tetsuya Takahashi productions.” While there might be fun references to other titles in the series throughout each game, series newcomers should have no issues diving in.

How to preorder

Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s physical edition is currently available to preorder at retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop. If you’d prefer to pick up a digital copy, you can also preorder the game via the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition

As of now, Nintendo has not announced any preorder bonuses for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. However, there is a Special Edition of the game, priced at $90 and solely available through the My Nintendo Store, that comes with a steelbook case, hardcover art book, and a special box featuring limited-edition cover art. Unfortunately, this version of the game is currently sold out, and it’s still unclear if additional stock will be available at a later date.

The expansion pass

Keeping with Nintendo’s current trend of coupling expansion passes with their games, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 offers a $30 expansion pass featuring additional story content and other exciting drops. The pass gives players access to four pieces of additional content over the course of the next year and a half.

The first of the expansion pack’s perks launches simultaneously with the game. This drop allows subscribers to claim “useful items” as well as new outfits and accessories for the party.

The second drop, which is scheduled to release by December 31, 2022, features new challenge battles, new outfits, and a brand-new hero character with accompanying quests. This will then be repeated in the third part of the expansion, which is slated to release next spring, followed by a brand-new story scenario by December 31, 2023. The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pass is currently available to preorder via the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Call of Duty Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune is getting a mid-season update on July 27, bringing Terminator skins, a new map for Vanguard, and a live event for the Fortune’s Keep map in Warzone. Here we highlight all the new details announced for Season 4 Reloaded, which is themed around both zombies and mercenaries.

Season 4 Reloaded new weapon, operator, and Terminator skins.

The mid-season update for Mercenaries of Fortune will bring one final weapon and operator to the season. The Vargo-S is described as an assault rifle with a high fire rate, and Ikenna Olowe is the last operator to be introduced for Season 4’s Special Operations Task Force 009: Immortal.

Season 4 Reloaded will include two limited-time Terminator cosmetic bundles that will be available to purchase and use in both Vanguard and Warzone. One bundle will include the iconic T-800 Terminator skin, while the other will have the T-1000 model. Both skins are modeled after their movie counterparts from the 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Warzone

New zombie event is live now

Warzone is kicking things off early, as the live “Cursed Ground” public event is already available to experience on Season 4’s Fortune’s Keep map. Several “cursed chests” have been hidden around the island. These special chests contain power-ups and high-quality items, but can only be unlocked by completing a zombie killing event.

Once the event begins, zombies will continuously spawn near the cursed chest. Players will want to eliminate them near the chest to harvest Wisps. Harvesting enough Wisps within the time limit will complete the event and provide rewards, such as cash, killstreaks, equipment, and the chance of getting perk tokens.

New Zombie mode for Rebirth Island

Arriving with Season 4 Reloaded on July 27, players can expect a limited-time “Rebirth of the Dead” zombie-themed mode for Warzone’s Rebirth Island.

Activision describes Rebirth of the Dead as a re-imagined version of Warzone’s past Zombie Royale mode. In this mode, 10 quads will drop onto Rebirth Island to survive against both the living and undead. Just like Zombie Royale, eliminated players return as zombies. Zombie players can return to human form by locating and collecting four antivirals.

Antivirals can be found in several ways:

Lone antivirals, are found in crates and at Buy StationsEliminate a player to earn two antiviralsEarn all four antivirals by performing a finishing move as a zombie, earning an instant revival and the “Head Scratcher” calling card

Throughout the match, an Infestation Meter will fill up as zombies are eliminated. Once it is filled, all spectators will return to the match as zombies.

Those who win a match of Rebirth of the Dead as a human will receive the animated “Last Alive” calling card.

Model T-800 Terminator operator skin

Titanium Trials: Endurance mode

Warzone is putting a new spin on the popular Iron Trials mode with the upcoming Titanium Trials: Endurance, which seems to be themed to match the new Terminator operator bundles.

Activision says the mode is designed to “simulate the toughness of a Terminator model,” and the maximum base armor threshold will be increased to 300 hit points. The Tempered perk will appear more frequently as ground loot for more efficient armor repairs. Each player will begin the game with a Self-Revive Kit and core health regeneration takes longer to restore, making Titanium Trials a high-skill, high time-to-kill game mode.

The mode’s description teases Titanium Trials: Endurance will feature a loot pool to support mode’s the higher TTK gameplay, including exceedingly rare “redacted weapons” that are more powerful than a player’s loadout weapons.

Titanium Trials: Endurance will arrive later in the update. The mode will launch on August 11, and it will only stick around for two weeks.

New movement features for Caldera

There will be new movement features added to the battle royale’s main Caldera map. Warzone’s Redeploy Balloons have been a big hit with players, and now there will be another way to zip back into the sky with Season 4 Reloaded.

The Portable Redeploy Balloon is being added as a new field upgrade, which can be found as loot or received as a Contract reward. These will allow players to redeploy into the sky much like the stationary balloons on the map, but now players can haul one around and deploy it anywhere.

The second movement addition will be a nitro boost for Caldera’s Armored SUVs. This boost will give immediate acceleration, allowing players a faster escape or to catch up to their targets.

Vanguard Zombies camos are finally coming to Warzone

In Season 4 Reloaded, players who unlocked Vanguard’s Zombie Camos will finally be able to use the camos in Warzone. Of course, these can only be equipped on Vanguard weapons, but players can finally show off their hard-earned weapon skins like Golden Viper, Plague Diamond, and Dark Aether camos.

Vanguard

A new multiplayer map is coming to Vanguard for the mid-season update. Desolation is described as a medium-sized map set in a labyrinthine village cut directly into a mountainside. The map will feature winding alleys and confined shacks on the ground floor for close-quarters combat, plus space to traverse rooftops and walkways above the town.

Despite all the zombie themes in Warzone, no updates were mentioned for Vanguard’s Zombies mode, making the content light for Vanguard’s Season 4 Reloaded update.

The start of Season 4 added the Shi No Numa map to Zombies, which added a new Zombies storyline Easter egg, side quests, and more. Hopefully, more Zombies content will arrive with Season 5.

Destiny 2’s Solstice event is live for the next few weeks, and like last year, it has some great armor to collect. The Candescent sets are unlocked at the start of Solstice and are used to earn a new currency in the game called Silver Leaves, which can be converted into Silver Ash through the Bonfire Bash activity. Once you have enough Silver Ash–and Kindling materials–you can then use it to upgrade each piece of your Solstice armor and improve its overall stats. Here’s how it all works, including how to get Silver Leaves, Silver Ash, Kindling.

How to get Candescent armor

What a glow-up

Start your Solstice journey with a quick visit to Eva Levante in the Tower, and she’ll hand over a full set of Candescent armor for your Guardian.

How to get Silver Leaves

Public events are a quick and easy way to earn Silver Leaves

With at least one Candescent armor piece equipped, you’ll want to start grinding through Gambit, Strikes, Lost Sectors, public events, Crucible, and other Destiny 2 activities that aren’t Bonfire Bash. Completing these activities will reward you with Silver Leaves. Patrolling the EDZ’s public events is a good way to make certain that you get a healthy flow of Silver Leaves flowing into your inventory, as you can get four Silver Leaves every time you complete a heroic version of those events. The cap for Silver Leaves is 100, so you’ll want to check in often in your character inventory to see if you’re about to hit that limit.

There is another method that fans have found for farming Silver Leaves through the Witch Queen’s Investigation campaign mission. It’s slightly complex and you do need an extra player to assist you, but it does hand over a substantial amount of Silver Leaves with each successful run. If you’re interested to see how it works before Bungie patches the exploit, you can check out this video from Fallout Plays.

How to turn Silver Leaves into Silver Ash

Amanda likes fire way too much

With a hefty haul of Silver Leaves in your inventory, it’s time to start a round of Bonfire Bash while wearing at least one piece of Solstice armor to get your Silver Leaves converted. The activity isn’t complex, as you’ll be spending a few minutes in the EAZ fighting various enemies, dealing with Taken invaders, and building a bonfire using Igniters that are dropped by challenging foes. Once you’ve built a celebratory fire, a Taken Heatseeker will spawn in for a brief boss battle, and you’ll earn some rewards once it has been vanquished.

Any Silver Leaves you have will instantly be converted into Silver Ash at a rate of 1:5 depending on how many Igniter balls you threw into the fire. For every Silver Leaf you have, you’ll get five Silver Ash in return per lobbed ball. For example, if you hit the Bonfire Bash cap of 20 Igniter balls, you’ll get 20 x 5 Silver Leaves to Silver Ash conversions.

How to get Kindling

These event challenges are easy to grind through as well

You’ll be able to earn Kindling from completing event challenges, which you can look at in your Event Card. There are 24 event challenges in total, so you’ll need to choose carefully when you do make use of this resource. The good news is that these challenges can be completed according to the class that you’re playing as and aren’t account-wide objectives, although the seal and titles are. It’s worth noting that if you want to gild the title, you will need to complete all three event challenges for all Guardian classes.

You can increase the Kindling on each armor piece permanently, and then reroll armor stats a limited number of times using Silver Ash. Once your armor piece has been kindled, any future drops of that gear will have the same Kindling level as well. If you want to prepare your loadout for the event challenges, you can read the full list of them below:

How to upgrade your armor with Silver Ash

More Kindling, more stats and glows

Go into your character menu and inspect your Solstice armor for the next step. In the Solstice Embers mod slot, you can use your Silver Ash to reroll the stats after you’ve applied some Kindling to it. On the final tier, you’ll be able to choose which stat rolls with a value of 20, and when combined with a Ghost mod that allows for a selected stat to be focused with a number of 10, you can easily specify which direction you want to craft your armor in. Once an armor piece has been fully upgraded, you will need a new piece to get a new chance at rolling high stats.

How to make your Candescent armor glow

Nothing complicated here, as each armor piece will achieve a glow effect as you invest more Kindling into it. Upgrade it fully with Kindling, get the full glow effect. If you’re impatient, you can also buy the glow effects in the Eververse store with Silver in-game currency.
