Following the announcement of Valve’s increased Steam Deck production capabilities, the handheld PC console will now also be coming to other select countries–Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, And Taiwan. Reservations open today, August 3 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.

These new reservations will not impact existing NA/UK/EU reservation timelines. So if you’re in Q3 or Q4, you’ll still be in those queue groups with the same estimated delivery dates.

Valve will partner with Komodo to distribute to the new regions, and will show at BitSummit in Kyoto and September’s Tokyo Game Show.

In related Steam Deck news, Valve also recently confirmed that everybody with an existing confirmation will get a Steam Deck before the end of 2022. Many people in Q4 were also pushed up into Q3. You can check the details of your Steam reservation while logged in to your account.

Steam Deck comes in at three price points: 64GB for $400, 256GB for $529, and 512GB (among other upgraded qualities) for $649. Though there are handheld PC competitors on the market, like the Ayaneo line, none can compare to what you get from a Steam Deck for the price you pay.

In a recent big Steam Deck update, the device will now warn you whether it’s running too hot or too cold, and just in time for an expanded regional release, has new localized keyboards for 21 languages.

Check out our Steam Deck Review for everything you need to know about Valve’s handheld PC.

Employees of Destiny 2 developer Bungie recently scaled back their social media communication in response to threats and harassment, and now court filings in Canada have revealed just how intense those threats were.

According to a report from the Waterloo Region Record, in June an Ontario judge ordered Canadian anonymous phone service provider TextNow Inc. to release the name of customers who made “racist and serious physical threats” against Bungie employees. The ruling details some of the threats made against two Bungie employees, which included doxxing, harassing tweets, racist phone calls, and threats of violence.

The Record’s report states that the harassment started following a tweet on the official Destiny 2 Twitter account which included a video featuring Twitch streamer Uhmaayyze, who often freestyle raps while he plays Destiny. Superior court judge Fred Myers said in the ruling that, following the tweet, Bungie employees were doxxed and harassed, with one anonymous person sending threats to kill Bungie employees to Bungie Twitter accounts.

“Shortly after, several employees of Bungie began receiving voice mails and text messages on personal, unpublished telephone numbers repeatedly using the racial slur referred to colloquially as the ‘N-word,'” the judge said.

Harassing and threatening phone calls continued for one Bungie employee and harassers also sent texts to the phone of their spouse, the ruling said, while also ordering pizza to the employee’s home, revealing that the harasser had uncovered their home address. That raised the concern that the harasser might try to “swat” the Bungie employee. Swatting involves making false reports are made to police in an attempt to provoke them into sending an armed response against the target.

Two Bungie employees sought a court order to compel TextNow to identify the customers who made the threats. The judge granted that order in June, but only released the ruling a month later because of the seriousness of the danger the allegations presented. It’s not currently clear if Bungie will take against the customers TextNow identified or what it might be.

Last month, Bungie community manager Dmg04 discussed in a Reddit comment some of the harassment employees had received, describing it as much more serious than “rude replies on Twitter or vague comments.”

“Here’s the thing, the harassment we’ve spoken to isn’t just rude replies on Twitter or vague comments,” Dmg04 wrote on Reddit. “There have been real threats towards our people and our studio. We’re taking them seriously, which is leading to an amount of reduced communications as the team plans future protections/strategies to help avoid these sorts of things.”

Dmg also wrote that he took time off from his job at Bungie in part because of the harassment he and his family had received.

“None of it is meant to be a punishment to the people who can leave clear and respectful feedback for our developers, mind you,” Dmg04 wrote. “There are no instances at Bungie where people actively look at a conversation and plan retaliatory actions towards our playerbase via hotfixes, updates, or comms strategies. Sometimes, we just need to take some time to get things straightened out. Can take weeks, can take months–just like any given development pipeline, as we want what’s best for our players AND our employees. That said, we can’t just move about ‘business as usual’ until things are resolved. It sucks, but we want to be sure that folks are safe and taken care of.”

Bungie is currently suing a player it accuses of regularly breaking its terms of service and harassing Dmg. Neil Paris, a lawyer representing the Bungie employees in the TextNow filing, told The Record that that “these reasons for decision are unrelated to any other litigation that has been reported in the media.”

Dead by Daylight is getting yet another Resident Evil crossover for its Project W chapter, adding fan favorites Albert Wesker, Ada Wong, and Rebecca Chambers to the game’s cast of playable characters.

Revealed as part of developer Behavior Interactive’s recent showcase, series villain Wesker will be added to the asymmetrical, multiplayer survival horror game as a playable killer, while heroes Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers will be playable survivors. The trio join already added characters Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Nemesis, who were introduced during Dead by Daylight’s first Resident Evil-themed chapter last year. That chapter also introduced the Raccoon City Police Department map.

It doesn’t look like there will be a new Resident Evil-themed map this time around, with Project W’s cinematic trailer taking place at the Raccoon City Police Department. Behavior Interactive says the chapter will instead feature a “reworked” version of the map based on the iconic location from Resident Evil 2.

Wesker’s look (and his Uroboros tentacles) are straight from Resident Evil 5, while Ada Wong is seen sporting her iconic red dress from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. STARS member Rebecca Chambers, who appears in the original Resident Evil remake but also stars in Resident Evil 0, looks much the same here as she does in those games.

The crossover event does not yet have a release date, with the chapter trailer saying only that it’s “coming soon.” Project W will continue the trend of various horror franchises crossing over with Dead by Daylight, which has also seen events and characters from properties like Silent Hill, Saw, Scream, Halloween, and more in recent years.

In addition to announcing Project W during its recent event, Behavior Interactive also unveiled its new multiplayer FPS Meet Your Maker, where players can team up to raid dungeons filled with various traps created by the game’s community. A closed playtest for Meet Your Maker is happening August 23, with signups available via the game’s official website.

Behaviour Interactive’s first-ever Behaviour Beyond livestream shared many updates from the Canadian studio, including a brand-new building and raiding action game called Meet Your Maker.

Meet Your Maker takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where survivors are searching for the ancient dead, as their genetic material can be used to keep sentient life going. The game is split into two major segments: building and raiding.

Create to destroy, or outwit to survive? Meet Your Maker’s Closed Playtest kicks off August 23rd!

In the building mode, players will build their own outposts–essentially DIY dungeons–littered with traps, enemies, and a main objective. The builder can add or delete parts on the fly, test each area as they’re built, and once the outpost is ready, share it with the world. Traps include spikes in the floor and buzzsaws on the wall, while enemies range from basic grunts to flying enemies with projectile attacks.

In raiding mode, players can group together in teams of two and delve into the outposts others have made. Teams must enter the outpost, retrieve the objective, and escape without dying in order to complete the outpost challenge. Raiders can also rate outposts as soon as a play session ends, issuing accolades to the builder before moving to the next outpost.

Meet Your Maker is scheduled to launch in 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. A closed playtest has been announced for August 23, and players can sign up for it via the game’s official website.

Call of Duty: Warzone received major weapon balancing with the Season 4 Reloaded update on July 27, but now the developer revealed the patch notes for a new update on August 3, which includes a few bug fixes and several gun nerfs.

According to the patch notes, Season 4 Reloaded’s new Vargo-S assault rifle received a buff for the Mirzoyan 414mm Custom barrel. This change increased the muzzle velocity by 35%, which Raven Software said was implemented because the gun’s muzzle velocity was holding back the weapon’s long-range viability.

While the Vargo-S received a buff, several popular Warzone weapons were nerfed in the update. Vanguard’s NZ-41 assault rifle had a decrease to the weapon’s headshot locational damage multiplier, dropping the damage down from 1.5 to 1.3. The KG M40 assault rifle also received a decrease to the weapon’s headshot locational damage multiplier, but the gun did get a slight buff to the neck locational damage multiplier, increasing from 1.3 to 1.32.

This list of nerfs also included Modern Warfare’s Kilo 141, decreasing the gun’s minimum damage from 23 to 22, which the developer said was due to seeing a high jump in kill-to-death ratio with the Kilo 141 on the smaller maps.

The update also corrected a few major issues for the battle royale, including a bug added with Season 4 Reloaded that previously caused an unintentional lighting change on Caldera. The patch notes also addressed an issue where players received damage when entering the gas, which was caused by a minor delay in the gas mask’s animation.

The full list of weapon changes and bug fixes can be found below, as shared by Raven Software.

Call of Duty: Warzone is set to receive a new event and game mode on August 11, and here are all the rewards announced for Titanium Trials: Endurance. We also have a guide for Warzone’s Rebirth of the Dead LTM.

Weapon Adjustments

» Assault Rifles «

Vargo-S (VG)

Mirzoyan 414mm CustomMuzzle Velocity now increased by 35%

We’re seeing good early performance data come through from the Vargo-S (VG) but the Muzzle Velocity was holding its long-range viability back.

NZ-41 (VG)

Headshot Locational Damage multiplier decreased to 1.3, down from 1.5Shot Deviation Increased

KG M40 (VG)

Headshot Locational Damage multiplier decreased to 1.32, down from 1.46Neck Locational Damage multiplier increased to 1.32, up from 1.3

As mentioned previously, our philosophy is to address the damage profile of weapons that are designed to be easier to control. The KG M40 (VG) has started to rear its head as the front-runner. This is mostly due to the reliability of landing headshots and has one of the highest head-shot accuracies in the game. By bringing this down we expect to see the weapon perform well, but not dominate.

Volkssturmgewehr (VG)

We love seeing the Volkssturmgewehr (VG) start to find its place in the meta but are seeing its long-range efficiency become higher and higher. This indicates that more players have found accurate long-range builds with the weapon. A small adjustment in its min-damage reinforces the weapons identity as a powerhouse of close-to-mid range, but can be used at range when needed.

Kilo (MW)

Min Damage decreased to 22, down from 23

While we’re thrilled to see the “return of the king” we’ve seen a high jump in KD particularly in the higher skilled brackets on the smaller maps. This is due to the relative ease of recoil that the kilo enables. While we like its handling where it is, as with the KG M40 we’ll be addressing its damage profile downward a bit.

» Submachine Guns «

Some of the more recent additions to the Submachine Gun category have been dominant and reduced the once great breadth that was on offer. This is mostly due to far superior handling. We’re making some strategic changes here in order to keep the weapons viable but open up the short-range meta back to its former glory.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was officially revealed back in June with a ton of details regarding the campaign narrative and new game mechanics, but details are still scarce on the game’s multiplayer modes. However, it seems members of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams team have gotten hands-on time with the game, leaking images that appear to confirm Modern Warfare 2’s long-rumored DMZ mode.

Cameron Dicker, a kicker for the LA Rams, shared an image of the Modern Warfare 2 menu on Instagram. Dicker added a caption to the image that said, “Having fun on the new Call of Duty.” Another player posted a slightly blurry photo, saying they were previewing the unreleased game, but the image still clearly says “DMZ” in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

The images have since been deleted by the players, but sites like CharlieIntel and ModernWarzone were quick to capture and tweet out their existence.

Another picture of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer has been leaked, this one seems to show the rumored DMZ mode. #MW2 #ModernWarfare2 pic.twitter.com/10BgraKv7K

— ModernWarzone (@ModernWarzone) August 3, 2022

Call of Duty insiders have long suggested the existence of DMZ, which is said to be Modern Warfare 2’s extraction-based mode inspired by Escape from Tarkov. The leaks describe DMZ as an open-world mode with a mix of battle royale and survival game elements, and the mode has reportedly been in development for four years.

It was also rumored DMZ might be set for a standalone release in 2023, but the Rams players have now seemingly confirmed the new mode is packaged alongside the campaign, multiplayer, and Spec Ops modes already confirmed by Infinity Ward.

More details are set to come this weekend, as the Call of Duty League announced members of Infinity Ward will share new information during Vanguard’s Call of Duty League Championship on August 7. Viewers will also have a chance to score Modern Warfare 2 beta codes during Sunday’s championship game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to release on October 28, and here we highlight everything we know so far about Modern Warfare 2. We also have all the details surrounding the Warzone sequel coming later this year.

Blizzard and Chinese game company NetEase have canceled a World of Warcraft MMORPG for mobile devices, according to a new report.

The news comes via Bloomberg, which writes that Blizzard and NetEase could not agree to financial terms and have since disbanded a team of 100 NetEase developers tasked with creating content for the game.

While the project, code-named Neptune, was said to be a MMORPG, it wouldn’t have been a direct translation of Blizzard’s long-running PC MMO but rather a spin-off set during a different time period. The game was said to have been in development for three years.

NetEase is a longtime partner of Blizzard. The company has served as the publisher of WoW and other Blizzard franchises in China for years, and recently co-developed the free-to-play mobile game Diablo Immortal, which has been heavily criticized for its microtransactions. Despite those criticisms, Diablo Immortal is on track to be a financial success, having reportedly earned $100 million so far and recently launching in China, which is expected to be the game’s primary market.

It’s not the first Warcraft mobile game to have been canceled in recent years. Last year, news broke that Blizzard had canceled a Pokemon GO-style Warcraft spin-off that had been in development for more than four years.

A Warcraft mobile game is still coming, though it isn’t a MMO. Warcraft: Arclight Rumble, a strategy title reminiscent of Clash Royale, was officially revealed in May.

The next proper WoW expansion, Dragonflight, is set to arrive before the end of the year and will introduce a new dragon race and class alongside revamps to evergreen systems like professions and talents. A re-release of the game’s most popular expansion, Wrath of the Lich King Classic, launches September 26.

Nintendo’s latest financial results are out, reporting a decline in Nintendo Switch sales compared to last year.

The financial results, released today (August 3), report that the Switch currently sits at a total of 111.08 million units, but yearly sales were down 22.9% compared to the previous fiscal year. A total of 3.43 million units were sold in the three months ending June 30, whereas 4.45 million were sold in the previous year.

“Production was impacted by factors such as the global shortage of semiconductor components, resulting in a decrease in hardware shipments and subsequent decline in overall sales,” Nintendo explained as to why sales are lower. Though it expects that acquiring chips will “gradually improve from late summer towards autumn.” Even with these problems, overall demand for the Switch “remains stable in all regions,” according to Nintendo.

Things are looking better on the Software front though, with Kirby and the Forgotten Land shifting another 1.88 million units, bringing the total to 4.53 million, and in turn making it the best-selling Kirby games so far.

Nintendo Switch Sports was the best seller of the quarter, with a current total of 4.84 million units, and Mario Strikers: Battle League sits a few million lower at 1.91 million units. Of course, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to do well, selling 1.48 million units.

It seems that Nintendo isn’t alone in sales figures not matching expectations, as Sony also recently reported a 26% decrease in PlayStation game sales, and a 2% decrease in PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Like previous Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have a new gameplay mechanic that players can experiment with when they take part in a battle. This new mechanic, Terastallize, transforms a pocket monster into a crystal version of itself with boosted stats.

Each Pokemon in the Paldea region gets a unique gem-like look when subjected to Terastallizing, and some Pokemon will change type as well. According to the Pokemon Company, there are 18 types that form a wide number of combinations of Pokemon and Tera Types, and players can Terastallize a Pokemon once per battle.

Afterwards, the Tera Orb used for that transformation will need to be recharged by touching crystals overflowing with Terastal energy or by going to a Pokemon Center.

Shine on, you brilliant diamond duck

There’ll also be the opportunity to take part in Tera Raid Battles, when four other players team up with your trainer to take on a Terastallized wild Pokemon. There were plenty of other details revealed in today’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer, such as the legendary monsters doubling as motorcycles, the characters you’ll meet, and a delicious new Pokemon called Tridough, which ferments things in its vicinity using the yeast in its breath.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is set to release November 18 on the Nintendo Switch.
