Mortal Kombat marks its 30th anniversary this year, and while fans will have to wait some time to hear about developer NetherRealm’s next game, the studio is celebrating the birthday with a new video. The sizzle video showcases the role Mortal Kombat has played over the past three decades not just in the world of video games but across entertainment, including the 2021 live-action movie.

Additionally, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm announced that “Klassic Movie Raiden” is coming to Mortal Kombat Mobile today. This features the actor Christopher Lambert’s likeness and voice as Raiden from the 1995 movie. Players can grab this character until October 11.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon recently told fans to stay patient for news about NetherRealm’s next game. Right now, the company is focused on celebrating the Mortal Kombat franchise’s 30th anniversary, he said, adding that NetherRealm will announce its next game “in due time.”

Mortal Kombat first released in arcades on October 8, 1992, becoming one of the most successful fighting game franchises in the industry. The most recent installment, Mortal Kombat 11, sold over 12 million copies as of July 2021.

Nintendo has announced Splatoon 3’s next Splatfest, and it’s Pokemon-themed. Yes, Nintendo will never miss an opportunity for a well-timed crossover, and that’s exactly what this November’s Splatfest will be.

This timed event will ask players to choose their favorite Pokemon starter type. It’s a question forever debated on schoolyards across the world, from generation to generation. But for those of you who left your Pokedex back in 2000, those starter types are Grass, Fire, and Water-type. You know, like Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle–or whatever your age-appropriate equivalents were.

Grass-type. Fire-type. Water-type. This debate has perplexed our great philosophers for ages. Let’s settle it.
The Splatoon x Pokémon special #Splatfest collaboration begins 11/11 at 4pm PT!
Which type will you choose? pic.twitter.com/rPlTwIcycB

— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) October 7, 2022

The Splatfest begins on November 11 at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, and it will conclude exactly two days later on Sunday at the same time. As usual, it will feature special Splatfest T-shirts for those who participate. And, of course, this event is designed to correspond with the November 18 release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. That will be the first to let you allow your own custom TMs, which is a pretty big deal.

Splatoon 3’s first Splatfest aimed to settle the debate between rock, paper, and scissors once and for all, as well as introducing the sequel’s new three-sided Splatfest format. The first post-launch Splatfest asked players what they would choose to take with them on a desert island. This is one of many high-intensity debates that the format will help answer over the next few months.

Need for Speed Unbound races onto PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on December 2, and it’s bringing dozens of vehicles with it. EA has confirmed that there’ll be 143 cars to collect and customize, with the list of available vehicles being a mix of iconic racing machines and modern monsters.

Over on EA’s website, the list is a dream collection of power and performance. Nissan has plenty of representation here with its cult-classic Skyline and Silvia, the reliable Mitsubishi Lancer will have you easily burning rubber around corners, and Aston Martin’s classy Volante makes an appearance.

If you’re a masochist, you can even take the horrible 1967 VW Beetle into races, and for a much better option, there’s a rich selection of BMW, Ferrari, and Mercedes cars to try out and customize. If you’d prefer some classic American horsepower, you can always conquer a straight line with a 1969 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat or a modern Ford Mustang. Just watch out for those tricky things on the road that are known as corners.

Need for Speed Unbound might just be one of the most distinct entries in the long-running series, thanks to its cel-shaded visuals that make it look like a high-speed anime series. Burnout developer Criterion is developing this game, and it’ll be skipping last-gen consoles when it launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will attempt to win The Grand, the ultimate street racing challenge in Lakeshore, collecting cars and using them as a canvas to show off their personal style on the streets.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Season 5 mid-season update has received another patch, this time delivering an assortment of bug fixes and weapon adjustments to the battle royale game.

For weapon balance, the UGM-8 sees its minimum damage decreased from 22 to 21, while the Lienna 57 LMG has its upper torso damage multiplier decreased from 1.05 to 1.0 and its minimum damage decreased from 27 to 24.

The Gorenko Anti-Tank rifle, meanwhile, has its bullet velocity decreased from 980 to 900 and the Armaguerra 42 SMG has its minimum damage decreased from 23 to 21.

For bug fixes, this new patch fixes an issue that could cause loadouts to fall through the ground geometry. It also fixes a bug that prevented the game from displaying the correct Camo Challenges for the BP50. Additionally, the issue causing some weapon rarities to be incorrect has been fixed.

You can see the full patch notes below, as shared by Raven Software on its website.

The original Warzone will continue to be supported after Warzone 2.0 releases in November, though the newer game is expected, naturally, to get more of the focus and attention. Before Warzone 2.0 arrives, Call of Duty fans will get a new game in the form of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which releases on October 28. People who preorder Modern Warfare II can start playing the campaign on October 20.

In its weekly update, Bungie dropped a bombshell on players who favor the controversial Divinity trace rifle, amongst other smaller details on how guns will be changing ahead of the Lightfall expansion. Divinity has become a polarizing weapon within the Destiny 2 community, with some players calling it a crutch that has become too dominant within high-level PvE content.

The trace rifle’s primary perk is a debuff that weakens enemies by up to 30%, and when you’ve got a few marksmen on the team who can land critical hits, the weapon can make short work of even the toughest enemies. Bungie said that it will be decreasing the weapon effect to 15% in Season 19 so that fireteams can focus on wielding a more varied arsenal in combat. Community manager Cozmo added that this nerf has been in the planning stages for quite a while, long before the Destiny 2 community started Divinity updates.

The Div change was planned before the spirited debates on social media began.

It’s fine to give your constructive feedback to Bungie, but do not harass anyone in the community for having a different opinion.

— Cozmo (@Cozmo23) October 6, 2022

A positive change coming to the weapon pool will be better rewards for players who can complete Master-level raids. Bungie has explained that the Adept weapons earned from these highly challenging encounters need to be on par or better than their craftable versions, and that come Lightfall, players can expect to see Adept weapons with enhanced perks drop from the new raid. While this doesn’t mean that craftable Adept raid guns are coming, it does mean that some of the best guns in the game could possibly be obtained from the Master Lightfall raid.

The high stats of Adept weapons combined with the powerful perks of crafted guns could make for a potentially devastating piece of gear to have in your arsenal. Some of the other interesting changes highlighted in the blog post include a renewed focus on making Kinetic weapons “more interesting” after Lightfall launches, an investigation into giving crafted weapons multiple perks to choose from in each column, and a PvP nerf for the Exotic SMG Riskrunner in the future.

Season 19 will also have at least one Kinetic and one Solar Exotic weapon to collect and you can expect Glaive damage resistance to get dialed down in a mid-season patch. For more on Destiny 2, you can tune in later today to see where Xur is and details on what to expect from Trials of Osiris this weekend.

Xur is getting ready to pull a double-shift in Destiny 2 for the next couple of days, as the enigmatic arms dealer will once again be offering his finest weapons and hosting the game show Dares of Eternity. As usual, you can expect a selection of Exotic weapons, armor, and a few more goodies of the Legendary-class variety when Xur pops up after the scheduled daily reset. It’s handy stuff, especially if you’re planning to enter the Trials of Osiris.

We don’t know where he’ll be just yet, but this list will be updated as soon as he appears in one of his regular haunts.

While you wait, you can read up on how this week’s patch provided a handy fix for Season of Plunder’s annoying weapon-crafting issue, the imminent return of the Gyrfalcon’s Hauberk Hunter Exotic, and how Bungie’s new cheat detection software is getting an overhaul so that it doesn’t hand out incorrect bans.

Xur is present every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on Friday. Bungie doesn’t mark Xur’s location on the in-game map, so it can be easy to miss him if you’re not aware he exists. He only comes to specific locations, of which now there are only three: the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher’s Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ.

Underscoring a difficult second half of the year that seems to be shaping up for the entire tech industry, AMD this afternoon has become the latest tech company to warn investors that revenues for the quarter are going to come in significantly under previous guidance. Releasing a preliminary third quarter financial results statement, AMD is reporting that revenues for the quarter will come in at around $5.6 billion, which is over $1 billion below AMD’s previous guidance of $6.7 billion. Driving this unexpected drop in revenues is an exceptionally weak client market, with revenues down 40% versus Q3’21 and resulting in what’s traditionally AMD’s largest market segment by revenue becoming their smallest.

Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard are both in their final season of content with Season 5 Reloaded, and one final gun has been added to the weapon pool. An update on October 6 added a new light machine gun for use in multiplayer, Zombies, and battle royale. Here’s how you can unlock Season 5 Reloaded’s Lienna 57 light machine gun.

How to unlock the Lienna 57 light machine gun

Lienna 57 light machine gun

The Lienna 57 is described as a compact light machine gun capable of high accuracy during sustained fire at short- to medium-ranges.

This new LMG can be unlocked either for free with an in-game challenge, or it can be purchased as a weapon blueprint with a cosmetic bundle.

Warzone

Challenge: Get 15 long-range kills.

This is a fairly easy challenge for Warzone. This is something that shouldn’t take too long in any game mode, but would likely be faster to complete in respawn modes like Resurgence or Plunder.

Note: Warzone’s weapon unlocks require you to complete the matches to get credit towards your challenge progression.

Vanguard MP

Challenge: Get 15 long-range kills.

Just like the Warzone unlock challenge, this Vanguard’s multiplayer challenge is easy and straightforward. Just choose any weapon and go for long-range kills.

Note: Vanguard’s weapon unlocks require you to complete the matches to get credit towards your challenge progression.

Zombies

Challenge: Get 500 eliminations using light machine guns in a single match.

This might take a bit longer than the multiplayer challenge, but if Zombies is your preferred mode, this shouldn’t feel like too much of a grind. Just pick your preferred light machine gun, and make sure you’re Pack-a-Punching the weapon as the rounds progress. Also, grab all the necessary perks needed to keep yourself alive, as this challenge does require that you get all 500 kills in one match.

Store bundle

Dragon Rider bundle weapon

The Lienna 57 can also be purchased in the shop as part of the Dragon Rider bundle. This is a 7-item pack that includes the Dragonscale legendary weapon blueprint for the Lienna 57 and six smaller cosmetic items. The Dragon Rider bundle is priced at 1,200 CoD points ($12).

If you still need to unlock Season 5 Reloaded’s previous DLC weapon, here is our full guide for unlocking the BP50 assault rifle. We also have some recommended Warzone loadouts to try in your next match.

It’s become something of a meme that Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available on every platform and in every place under the sun already, but in fact, the game continues to grow its footprint.

Bethesda’s immeasurably popular role-playing game’s Anniversary Edition launched today, October 6, on the Epic Games Store. The Skyrim Anniversary Edition itself costs $50, while the upgrade for existing owners is $20.

The Anniversary Edition comes with the base game, all three expansions–Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn–and a variety of creation club content. It also includes some new game elements, like fishing.

The Skyrim Anniversary Edition’s launch on the Epic Games Store came not long after the RPG was released in on another platform, Switch. However, reports say the Switch version leaves a lot to be desired.

Game director Todd Howard said in 2018 that Bethesda continues to release new versions of Skyrim, and on additional platforms, because the game makes money. “If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it,” Howard joked.

The next title from Bethesda Game Studios is Starfield, which was originally expected to launch in November 2022 before being delayed to 2023. After that will come The Elder Scrolls VI, and then Fallout 5.

Blizzard recently disclosed that Overwatch 2 has a lot of known issues. One of the problems that players are running into involves achievements. As spotted by True Achievements, players have reported that they get booted from the game and server when they unlock an achievement.

This would be frustrating enough on its own, but it’s especially bad because Overwatch 2 already has lengthy queues. Unlocking an achievement–which is normally a fun and exciting thing–can be very much not that way with this issue. GameSpot experienced this bug firsthand as well. As usual, however, your mileage may vary.

Overwatch 2’s achievement list is pretty much the same as the original game, with some changes, and six brand-new achievements for the sequel.

Exactly what’s causing the achievement-related crashes is unknown, but it fans have theorized it has something to do with the general instability of the game right now.

Blizzard recently owned up to Overwatch 2’s rocky start, saying the game failed to meet the expectations of both the studio and fans alike. The studio is making some changes to the game going forward, including removing the controversial mobile phone requirement for many.

Blizzard said all of Overwatch 2’s launch issues were exacerbated by the DDoS attacks against the game. “They did not directly cause any of these issues, they made the environment in which we work on these issues more challenging.”

Despite the launch issues, Overwatch 2–which is a free-to-play title–has already attracted a huge audience of “millions,” according to Blizzard.

The Overwatch 1 servers were shut down on October 2 to prepare for the sequel’s launch.

In our Overwatch 2 review-in-progress, critic Jessica Howard mostly enjoyed her early hours with the game, though she questioned if it’s a true successor to the iconic original. “Where it counts, Overwatch 2 feels like a fantastic update to a multiplayer game with mechanics that enable thrilling skirmishes between teams of heroes,” she wrote. “However, as a separate entity and sequel, it stumbles.”
