This month, Humble Choice subscribers can download Deathloop for free, along with seven other games. Humble Choice is a $12/month subscription service from Humble that offers free monthly games that are yours to download and keep even after you cancel your subscription, plus access to a rotating library of titles you can play as long as you’re a member, and occasional discount coupons for purchases through Humble’s online store.

Free games are always a great perk, but Deathloop is an especially exciting freebie. This critically-lauded FPS casts players as Colt, an assassin hunting down eight targets living on Blackreef Isle: a stand retro-futurist compound stuck in a never-ending time loop. Developed by Arkane, Deathloop incorporates immersive sim elements similar to the studio’s other first-person shooters like Prey and Dishonored, as well as roguelite structure, and a unique multiplayer system where players can infiltrate each others’ game worlds as Colt’s rival, Juliana. Check our Deathloop review for more information.

The seven other free Humble Choice games this month include Monster Train First Class, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, Disciples: Liberation, and more, all of which are yours to keep forever. You can check the full lineup listed below.

Separate from these eight free games, it’s also worth mentioning that the anticipated indie survival horror game Signalis is joining the Humble Choice library on its launch day, October 27 for active subscribers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons quickly became one of Nintendo’s most important games when it arrived in 2020 for the Switch system. A cathartic escape to a soothing island location, fans couldn’t get enough of the slow-paced game that urged its players to explore at their own pace. If you haven’t yet experienced Nintendo’s charming game, now is a great time to get it and its Happy Home Paradise expansion that adds tons of new content to the mix at a bargain price.

At Target, once you add both Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Happy Home Paradise expansion to your basket, you’ll score a $25 discount when you checkout. Given that Nintendo rarely discounts its first-party games or DLC, that’s a hefty discount that gets you the ultimate edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You’re essentially getting Happy Home Paradise for free.

With the Happy Home Paradise add-on, you’ll be able to build dream homes for clients, join the Paradise Planning team, and use an expansive built-in inventory to furnish vacation homes.

Beyond that home decor diversion, the core Animal Crossing game also has plenty to offer, as you’ll build your own community, build a personal getaway, and much more.

“Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives you more creative freedom and more to do on any given day while preserving what makes the series special,” Kallie Plagge wrote in her Animal Crossing review. “I’m as excited to see what random events await me each morning as I am glad to have it during hard times, and that’s sure to keep me coming back for the foreseeable future.”

Just like Red Dead Online, Grand Theft Auto Online is celebrating Halloween with a month-long event that brings a new mode, a free cosmetic item, various discounts, and more.

GTA Online’s new mode is called Judgement Day. It pits a team of motorcyclists against other people on foot in what Rockstar describes as a “kill-or-be-killed, hide-and-seek scenario.” The players being hunted are trying to survive until dawn while the hunters are trying to find them and wipe them out.

Judgement Day comes to GTA Online

The hunters start each round with an LCC Sanctus bike and buffs like extra health and speed, along with a double-barrel shotgun and stone hatchet to take down foes. The hunters also have special abilities like thermal vision, heartbeat sense, and health regeneration when they’re standing next to their bike. The hunters also do more damage when standing close to their bike.

As for those being hunted, they will find weapons on the map that hunters can’t pick up. Players can bring back their fallen teammates by killing a hunter. Resurrections are disabled in the final minute, however.

Anyone who plays Judgement Day this week will earn double GTA$ and RP, along with a bonus of $300,000 GTA Online currency for winning three rounds.

Additionally, everyone who simply logs into GTA Online this week will get the “War” mask, which is featured in the Judgement Day mode.

All GTA Online players get this War mask for free this week

What’s more, Halloween vehicles are returning to GTA Online. Players can zip around on all manner of spooky vehicles like the LCC Sanctus, Albany Franken Stange, and the Albany Lurcher. Players can grab these vehicles from the Southern San Andreas Super Autos in-game website until November 1.

GTA Online’s Halloween update will add more themed clothing, collectibles, events, and modes in the weeks remaining in October.

Outside of the Halloween events, players can head to the Smoking Room at Record A Studios to try out the “most potent strain” available yet through the newest Short Trips mission. Players will become Franklin and Lamar as they help Lamar’s pot business keep growing.

Head to the Rockstar Newswire to learn more about what’s new in GTA Online this week and month.

In other GTA news, Grand Theft Auto 6 recently had a big leak that revealed lots of videos, details, and information about the next entry in the series. Police have tracked down and apprehended someone they believe to be involved.

Despite no announcement from Ubisoft, the company has released a Far Cry 6 Game of the Year edition. It includes the base game, all season pass content, all updates, and a new expansion.

The expansion is called Lost Between Worlds, and it’s said to be launching “soon.” No further details about this expansion were divulged. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

The Far Cry 6 Game of the Year edition costs $120 on its own. Alternatively, people who own the standard version can upgrade to the Game of the Year edition for $60.

Far Cry 6’s Game of the Year edition leaked at the end of September. Ubisoft did not confirm the game then and still has not officially announced it, despite it releasing today on Xbox and PlayStation.

Far Cry 6 was released in October 2021. It performed better than Far Cry 5 as it relates to player engagement but Ubisoft has not announced an official sales figure for the title.

In addition to presumably another entry in the Far Cry game series, Ubisoft is working on multiple Far Cry TV shows with Netflix.

Target has the best Xbox Series S deal we’ve seen since launch. For $250, you’ll get the Series S as well as an additional wireless controller . This bundle is valued at $360, so it’s quite the deal. Though we have seen discounts on the Series S this year, outright discounts on consoles in brand-new condition have been rare. When deals have popped up, they haven’t included a bonus like a controller.

This deal is available as part of Target’s Deal Days promotion, which runs October 6-8. The Deal Days promotion has returned to compete with the second Amazon Prime Day of the year. Prime Day, however, doesn’t start until October 11, so Target is getting a head start on its competition.

All told, you’re saving around $110 with this bundle.

Unlike its more expensive sibling, Xbox Series S won’t run titles in native 4K and it lacks an optical drive to play physical games. Besides that, you’ll have access to the same incredible library as Xbox Series X. Game Pass Ultimate is a particularly good match for Xbox Series S, as you’ll gain access to hundreds of digital games for one low monthly fee.

Target has plenty of other great deals going on during its Deal Days event. Whether you’re looking for a new game, headset, or other accessory, you’re bound to find something that catches your eye. If you’re looking for a particular game or just want a nice deal, make sure to check out our roundups of the best early Prime Day deals for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, too.

Overwatch 2 is now here, bringing a massive update to the hero shooter. New modes, a new battle pass, and new heroes headline the new game, including a brand-new healer character, Kiriko. While owners of the original Overwatch will have instant access to Kiriko, new players will have to play to earn her, along with some of the original roster, or unlock her instantly by buying the premium battle pass. Here’s everything you need to know about the new healer, Kiriko.

Kiriko overview

Kiriko is a fast-moving healer with a high ceiling. She can continuously heal her teammates with primary fire, the Healing Ofuda. This sends out paper talismans that track down the teammates you are aiming at when firing them. These Ofuda don’t move particularly fast, but Kiriko’s kit is designed around sticking in the firefight, near your teammates. Her abilities give her the chance to move around a ton to avoid being taken down and while her secondary fire, the Kunai, doesn’t provide as much damage as some other healers, its quick fire and reload speed makes it handy enough to take down an enemy that gets too close.

Kiriko’s abilities

Healing Ofuda: Channel a burst of healing talismans that can seek targeted allies.

Kunai: Thrown projectile that deals increased critical damage.

Swift Step: Teleport directly to an ally.

Protection Suzu: Throw a protective charm to make allies become briefly invulnerable and cleansed of most negative effects.

Wall Climb: Jump at walls to climb over them.

Kitsune Rush Ultimate: Summon a fox spirit that rushes forward, accelerating the movement, attack speed, and cooldowns of allies that follow its path.

Play like an off-healer, heal like a main healer

Kiriko uses her Healing Ofuda talismans to keep her teammates alive.

Kiriko benefits from playing more aggressively, making her feel like an off-healer like Zenyatta or Brigitte, but her healing output matches up to the main healers like Mercy and Ana. The reason for this is that her healing isn’t limited to a single ally at a time nor is it limited by harsh cooldowns. As long as you are nearby friendlies that need healing, you can continuously fire the Healing Ofuda with no repercussions or cooldowns. Kiriko benefits from being in the action however, since her healing projectiles don’t move very quickly, meaning you need to be in the heat of it. Luckily, her Swift Step teleport can get you right next to any ally that needs help, or can be used to escape, if a teammate is close enough.

Kiriko’s cleanse makes her vital against Ana and Junker Queen

With the current Overwatch roster, Kiriko is a vital counter to Ana and Junker Queen. Both of those characters have abilities that cause anti-heal/wounds, which prevent your teammates from being healed. A friendly Ana can override the anti-heal with her own grenade, but other than that, you are forced to wait out the status effect. Kiriko’s Protection Suzu, which functions like a grenade with an area-of-effect, not only provides temporary invulnerability, but also cleanses anti-heal/wounds. Not only can Kiriko heal with the best, but she can shut down one of the most powerful aspects of both Ana’s and Junker Queen’s kits.

Kiriko fits in (almost) any team comp

In addition to providing a counter against anti-heal/wounds, Kiriko fits perfectly into nearly any team comp. Her high ceiling for healing means she can fill the main healer role and her ability to provide cleanses and a speed boost with her ultimate ability means she can sit in the off-healer slot as well. Her flaw is that she doesn’t work as well with characters that are meant to separate from the rest of the team. She can’t effectively heal a Widowmaker sitting in the back sniping, nor can she as effect with a Genji or Pharah that thrives on diving the enemy team alone. Her teleport does make it so she can get to these heroes and heal them, but that means she is leaving the rest of the team hanging. The only healer she doesn’t mesh with perfectly is Brigitte, because both characters need to be in the heat of the action to heal, but Brigitte doesn’t heal enough outside of combat for Kiriko to be able to dip out to heal others. It can work, but both healers will need to be communicating heavily.

Other Kiriko tips

Kiriko’s ultimate ability let’s the entire team move and attack faster. While the Healing Ofuda does move very quickly, it does travel relatively far and there isn’t a downside to firing them so even if a teammate is far away try to heal them. The Swift Step teleport is great for getting back into the action quickly, but don’t be afraid to use it as a swift exit too.The Kunai has a very large effective range and deals massive damage when it’s a headshot, so flinging those things whenever you see an enemy poke their head out, you might just snag a kill. It’s important to remember that the Kitsune Rush Ultimate does not provide healing. It does increase your fire rate and reload speed when you are in it, so you can heal faster, but you still need to be actually healing. The Kitsune Rush is also a great opening move to a team fight, since you get the most out of it when all of your teammates are present.

The next Witcher game won’t be here anytime soon. CD Projekt joint CEO Adam Kicinski said during an investor call this week that the game, which is being made in Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, is going to take some time. The game is in development under the working title Polaris.

“For Polaris we are preparing technology. This is the first project to be released on the new engine, Unreal Engine 5, [so] there is a need for some extra work making this technology,” he said, as reported by IGN. “For this project, for sure we need some extra effort to deliver.”

Asked if would be appropriate to believe that The Witcher 4 is more than three years away from launch, Kicinski said yes, it would be. The executive added that he expects The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 will have a smoother development because the foundation via Unreal Engine 5 will already be in place. Each of those games should take about three years to develop, Kicinski said.

The Witcher 4 was announced in March, so no one should expect it to be released until March 2025 at the very soonest. The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6, or whatever they end up being called, will be released within six years of when The Witcher 4 launches.

In addition to a new Witcher trilogy, CD Projekt is developing a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and other new games. You can see a breakdown of these titles below, as GameSpot reported on previously.

In other news, CD Projekt co-founder and joint-CEO Marcin Iwinski is leaving the company after nearly 30 years.

Upcoming Games From CD Projekt

Project Sirius

For Project Sirius, this Witcher game is described as an innovative take on the series that is aimed at both veteran fans and people new to the franchise. Currently in pre-production, it is being developed by Flame in the Flood developer The Molasses Flood and has 60+ people involved in its creation.

Project Polaris

Project Polaris is described as a story-driven open-world RPG built on the legacy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and has more than 150 people working on it at CD Projekt Red. This game will be the start of a new Witcher trilogy that is aiming to be delivered within a 6-year period following the Polaris release.

Project Canis Majoris

A story-driven single-player open-world RPG set within The Witcher universe, this game will be developed by a third-party studio that will be led by ex-Witcher veterans.

Project Orion

The working title for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, this new game set in the universe created by Mike Pondsmith will arrive after the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion and will once again be developed by CD Projekt Red.

Project Hadar

The newest IP from CD Projekt, Project Hadar has been in “IP incubation” since 2021 and is currently in the conceptual phase. This game is described as being distinct from Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher and is being developed 100% internally.

Halo Infinite players now have another way to track their game history and statistics in the multiplayer shooter. The Halo Waypoint website and mobile app have been updated to include game history and post-game carnage reports to help players see their match statistics.

Game History lets players see all previous matches they’ve played online, dating back to when Halo Infinite’s multiplayer launched in November 2021. From within Game History, players can get a look at their post-game carnage report to see more granular stats like kills, accuracy, medals, and more.

What the PCGR looks like

For Ranked matches, the post-game carnage report will display how your competitive skill rank (CSR) moved up or down depending on how the match played out.

Halo Infinite stat-tracking was previously available through Halo Tracker, but this is the first official stat-tracking integration on Microsoft’s own platforms.

“We’re excited to continue supporting Halo Infinite and Halo Waypoint experiences across the board, and today’s update is another step on that great journey,” 343 said in a blog post.

Halo Infinite’s third multiplayer season, which is set to introduce new maps, weapons, and more, was recently delayed to March 2023. 343 recently made the decision to cut the game’s previously promised splitscreen co-op feature, saying it needed to reallocate its priorities.
