Though Nintendo Switch exclusives tend to receive more discounts than first-party games on older Nintendo hardware, there are still about a handful of titles that very rarely get price cuts that could be considered a good deal. One such game is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the wildly popular brawler that released way back in 2018. Right now, however, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is discounted to $40 at Super Saver with promo code SBSPMR10.

This deal comes with free shipping, and if you order today, you should get your brand-new copy of Smash Bros. within several days. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been one of the best-selling Switch games since launching in Winter 2022. It’s certainly a great deal to take advantage of, as this is the only time this year that the game has been discounted to this low of a price.

We’ve never seen Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for less than $40, so even with Black Friday around the corner, it’s unlikely a better deal will be offered by major retailers next month.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would undoubtedly be a great gift for new Nintendo Switch owners this holiday. Smash, along with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, are pretty much perfect games to pick when starting a Switch library. Speaking of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you can snag a copy for $50 at Walmart right now.

For more Switch discounts, take a look at our roundup of the best Nintendo Switch deals available now.

With Festival of the Lost kicking off three weeks of spooktacular treats in Destiny 2, now is a great time to update your Guardian wardrobe for the threats that lie ahead in Season 19 and the upcoming Lightfall expansion. In the Halloween catalog is a collection of ornaments that you can grab right now for your favorite gear, which features mechanized anime influences and sleek style. And you don’t even need to spend real-world to get it.

If you’re unfamiliar with ornaments, these are essentially skins that you can apply to your individual pieces of armor, so if you’ve been pouring resources into a build that suits your playstyle, you won’t have to worry about starting over from square one. The only exception here are Exotic armor pieces, so if you want the full look, you’ll have to go without one of those powerful pieces of gear.

These mech ornaments will need to be purchased, and you’ve got two choices for grabbing them from the Eververse store.

They’re mechnificent.

You can either spend some real cash on the premium Silver currency, or you can cash in some Bright Dust instead and get them for free. It’s not readily apparent at first that you can do this, and at a Silver cost of 2,500 (about $25) per ornament set, the price tag for these limited-edition ornaments are quite expensive.

In contrast, you’ll pay 6,000 Bright Dust per set using a currency that can easily be earned in the game by completing various seasonal challenges. Simply scroll down to the Bright Dust section of the Eververse Store and you’ll see these cosmetics for sale there.

Depending on your class, you’ll be able to purchase these ornament sets:

Beyond these great ornament sets, Festival of the Lost has a number of other great items that you can earn and purchase this year. The new Event Card is loaded with challenges that’ll reward you with a creepy spaceship, a very cool sniper rifle, and plenty of resources that will come in handy for upgrades.

For more details you can check out our Festival of the Lost and Haunted Sectors guides, although you might want to wait a day for a hotfix as there’s a Spectral Pages bug going around that’s blocking some progression.

The release date is fast approaching for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Activision has released a new blog post to explain how progression and ranking up will work in the game. Though the publisher said a more in-depth breakdown of all these progression systems would be revealed in a later blog, we do have some early information on what to expect when Modern Warfare 2 arrives.

The leveling progression for Modern Warfare 2 sounds much like what players have experienced in the last few years, with a seasonal prestige rank system instead of the traditional prestige formula of the older Call of Duty games.

Military Ranks will serve as the first 55 levels players will progress through as they play Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer. Following the initial military ranks, each season of content will contain new seasonal challenges and more prestige levels to reach.

In addition to leveling up in the ranks, there will be plenty of weapons to unlock and level up. As previously showcased in the beta, Modern Warfare 2 features a new Gunsmith and weapons Platform system. Weapons are unlocked by using other guns within each platform, including the set of attachments for the guns in each shared platform. At launch, there will be 33 Platforms and a total of 51 weapons to unlock. Additionally, Activision said that each weapon Platform will also feature camo and mastery challenges to grind.

Base operators can also be unlocked for the game. Modern Warfare 2 will feature 18 operators who are unlockable with challenges related to the campaign, multiplayer, and Spec Ops mode. Of course, the fancy operator bundles will likely be available in the in-game store and as part of the seasonal battle passes sometime post-launch.

There will also be plenty of challenges to help with leveling up in the game. This includes daily challenges in multiplayer and Special Ops for XP rewards. Additional challenges will include things like career milestones that will offer XP and cosmetic rewards.

Activision’s blog post also gave the first details about Modern Warfare 2’s Spec Ops mode, which includes mission details and the leveling system. For more information, make sure to check out our breakdown of everything announced for Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will release on October 28 across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those with digital preorders of the game will receive early access to Modern Warfare 2’s campaign, starting sometime on October 20. Additionally, Activision announced a whole set of Modern Warfare 2 campaign rewards that players can earn for completing the campaign during the early-access period.

This week sees some big changes in Destiny 2, just in time for the annual Festival of the Lost event. Though most of the attention is focused on slaying pumpkin-headed fiends and collecting candy in exchange for some great loot, the mid-season update has introduced plenty of fine-tuning to the sandbox.

Almost every weapon archetype in Destiny 2 has gone under the microscope, with the tweaks from Bungie being focused on creating balance throughout the arsenal. This has resulted in a number of small but important changes, ranging from altering handling by micro-seconds to changing the range at which these weapons are effective in PvP action. While you probably won’t notice these tweaks right away, you will feel some big changes with several Exotic weapons.

Arc-energy SMG Riskrunner won’t be as dominating in PvP, as Bungie has decreased the Arc Superconductor perk from 50% to 15%, reducing its defensive shield drastically. Popular shotgun Lord of Wolves has seen more changes, and its primary Release the Wolves perk now has reduced ADS accuracy penalties, 40% additional damage in PvE, and a full-auto firing mode.

An issue where the Queen’s Wrath perk was not properly applying Truesight in certain activities for the bow Wish-Ender has been addressed, and Jade Rabbit has lost a big chunk of aim assist.

Elsewhere in the patch notes, you can read up on how Ruffians will spawn slightly more in Expeditions, a few changes coming to the next round of Eruption in Iron Banner, and Dares of Eternity now rewarding players with Treasure Coordinates after completing that activity.

Destiny 2 Patch 6.2.5 Notes

There’s something strange happening in Destiny 2’s lost sectors, so who are you going to call? Your nearest Guardian of course. 2022’s Festival of the Lost takes you back to the Haunted Lost Sectors that are inhabited by spooky Overseers.

The big changes this year is the inclusion of a new Haunted Lost Sector in the EDZ and an Event Card that’s similar to the one that was introduced in Solstice. Completing the challenges within this book is worthwhile as you can earn some fantastic rewards, plus you’ll unlock the Ghost Writer title. That also puts you another step closer to earning the Reveler title, which requires participation in all four of Destiny 2’s major events.

Here’s how you can get started in this year’s Festival of the Lost and bank some ludicrous amounts of candy in the process.

Visit Eva Levante In The Tower

Eva will reward your Halloween havoc with candy, weapons, and shaders.

The friendliest face in Destiny is back to help start the Festival of the Lost celebrations, and she’ll give you a mask on the house, your first quest, and bounties that will help you earn some candy.

Complete Activities And Collect Candy While Wearing A Mask

There are many other masks to collect.

Now it’s time to hit the solar system and grab some candy. As long as you’re wearing the mask you’ll earn sweet treats from defeated enemies, and any that you miss will automatically be sent to the Postmaster. Masks and rewards can be purchased using Candy, which can be earned by defeating enemies and completing activities during Festival of the Lost while a mask is equipped.

Festival of the Lost Event Card

The latest Event Card has 17 challenges, all of which can be accomplished with some regular grinding over the next three weeks. There are plenty of resources to earn here, as well as Event Tickets for the premium tier of the Event Card and the new sniper rifle Mechabre.

Select The Haunted Sectors Playlist From The Tower

Just like last year, go to The Tower on the game director menu and you’ll spot the Haunted Sectors Playlist at the top. Select it, and prepare for a fight alongside the rest of your fireteam. There’ll be modifiers active as well, such as Iron that gives enemies more health and Heavyweight which prevents them from being staggered by your attacks, so plan accordingly.

Slay Headless Ones

You’ll have five minutes to slay 10 Headless Ones, ghoulish monsters with jack-o-lantern heads who can soak up plenty of damage. You’ll also have to do this while contending with enemy forces, but the main goal here will be to keep an eye open for summoning circles:

Stand in one, which looks like a green circle filled with candles, and you’ll call forth a Headless One. Defeat it, find the next summoning circle, and once ten of the monsters have been vanquished, the Haunted Sector boss will arrive.

How To Defeat The Haunted Sector Overseer

After you’ve dealt some damage to it, the sector boss will be enveloped in a force field that renders it impervious to harm. To break the shield, find a summoning circle and grab the pumpkin bomb that will spawn there. You’ll also summon another Headless One in the process, increasing the danger of this boss fight with the tough minions.

Take the pumpkin and toss it at the Overseer to break its shield, and pour on the punishment. Repeat this process whenever its shield is restored, and you’ll emerge victorious.

Collect your loot, and then head back to The Tower to talk to Eva.

Add Your Manifested Pages Into The Book Of The Forgotten

To unlock more pages in the Book of the Forgotten, you’re going to need Manifested Pages to unlock chapters.

How to get Spectral Pages

Manifested Pages are created from Spectral Pages, which are earned by taking part in activities while wearing a Festival mask. Public Events, Crucible, and Nightmare Containment will reward you with these spooky pages, so long as you have one of the many masks available during the event equipped on your Guardian.

With that introduction to this year’s Festival of the Lost complete, you can now focus on grinding through the Haunted Lost Sectors for candy that can be used to buy masks, an Exotic Sparrow, a shader, and weapons from previous festival events such as Horror Story and Braytech Wolf Auto.

After eight years of The Sims 4, developer Maxis has revealed the next generation of The Sims is on its way. Currently titled Project Rene, this new iteration is meant to be “reminiscent of words like renewal, renaissance, and rebirth,” and represents the team’s “renewed commitment for The Sims’ bright future.”

Maxis first gave fans a look at The Sims 5 during October 18’s Behind The Sims Summit. During the presentation, the team revealed a few minutes of gameplay, focusing on showing off all the features coming to the game’s build mode. Whereas former The Sims games have stuck to a grid-based design system, the next game in the series appears to be ditching that in favor of enabling players to place items just about anywhere they desire. Players will also be able to customize items similarly to how they could in The Sims 3. However, this enhanced build mode doesn’t stop at merely changing items colors and patterns–players will even be able to adjust the number of cushions that adorn their Sims’ couch.

As of right now, the studio has not revealed any details on character customization, how The Sims 5 will look, or its core gameplay. Maxis stated that while the game will stay true to what The Sims has always been, The Sims 5 will evolve how Sims think and behave, as well as provide players with “even more ways to play, tools to encourage creativity, and the ability to tell meaningful stories.” In addition, the upcoming game will allow players to play solo or collaborate with others, and will have both cross-play and cross-progression between consoles.

“From the start, The Sims defined life simulation games and has continued to grow into an incredible platform for creativity and self expression,” said Sims boss Lyndsay Pearson. “Today marks the start of our journey over the next few years as we work on this next game and creative platform, currently titled Project Rene. We are building on the same foundation that has made The Sims compelling for generations of players and pushing the boundaries to create new experiences. We’ll have much more to share as we continue to progress on the game’s development and milestones along the way.”

Throughout the presentation, Maxis emphasized Project Rene is still extremely early in development. However, the team plans to share updates and in-progress work across the next few years, and will use player feedback to help aid development.

In addition to The Sims 5, the Behind The Sims Summit also revealed several other changes coming to The Sims franchise. This includes a new destination for The Sims 4 players to download mods and user generated content through a collaboration with Overwolf–a mod manager and discovery platform for user-generated content–as well as updates coming to The Sims Freeplay and The Sims Mobile.

In other The Sims news, as of today The Sims 4 is available for players to download for free on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Origin, and the EA app.

Bespoke console maker Analogue announced that 95% of open Analogue Pocket preorders will ship before the end of 2022. This announcement impacts those in the B and C order bands, so if you’re not sure, we recommend checking that pre-order email.

We have three announcements today:
1. Pocket preorders — 95% of all open preorders (B & C) will ship before the end of 2022.

— Analogue (@analogue) October 16, 2022

Analogue also announced that the long-awaited cartridge adapters for the Pocket will be available for preorder on October 21, for a planned ship date of Q3 2023. These adapters will allow the Pocket to play TurboGrafx-16, Neo Geo Pocket, and Atari Lynx games. So, if you’ve ever wanted to take Splatterhouse on the go, this is your chance.

Finally, the company announced that the Super Nt and Mega Sg will go on sale one final time on October 28. The consoles cost $200, and play Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games respectively.

In our review, critic Steven Petite called the Analogue Pocket the best way to play Game Boy games. He particularly praised the handheld console’s 3.5-inch LCD display as a vast improvement compared to actual Game Boy consoles, even the backlit SP.

The Mortal Kombat franchise is getting a new mobile game titled Mortal Kombat: Onslaught in 2023, according to Warner Bros’ announcement. It will be developed by NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind the mainline Mortal Kombat console titles, and is an RPG where players “build a team of fighters from a vast roster of characters–and unleash them in massive real-time group battles.”

According to chief creative officer Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is “a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat.” From the description, it appears players will be able to collect fighters and participate in multiplayer activities–though what that exactly looks like remains to be announced.

This isn’t the first mobile Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat Mobile released in 2015 and features different battle modes–like Shao Khan’s Tower and Quest Mode–that provide materials for players to upgrade their warriors. There’s no word yet if Onslaught is related or a continuation of the 2015 Mortal Kombat game.

To be kept in the loop, players can sign up for updates over at the official Mortal Kombat Onslaught site.

Mortal Kombat is also entering its 30th year, a major anniversary NetherRealm celebrated by releasing a showcase of the franchise’s history and adding bonus content to Mortal Kombat Mobile. As for the next Mortal Kombat console game, Boon informed players that the studio will release more info “in due time.” The studio is currently focused on 30th anniversary celebrations.
