The Xbox Series S will receive its second price hike in India in just six months, and third overall, just days ahead of preorders re-opening.
Media analyst Rishi Alwani posted on Twitter that Xbox Series S will get a price hike to Rs.39,990, approximately $485. In the US, the Series S retails for $300. Preorders start on January 10. Reasons for the price hike are unknown and could be a result of low sales in India or the waning power of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar. According to another report from Alwani, Rockstar opted not to release the Xbox Series X port of Grand Theft Auto 5 in India.

The next major patch for Riot Games’s first-person tactical shooter Valorant is now live, and the update will add two new ready-for-battle locales, one brand-new and the other reworked for better balance.
The new map is called Lotus, which is the ninth map to be introduced since the game’s June 2020 launch. The map features an Indian aesthetic and will feature three main areas like fellow Valorant map Haven.
Split will be returning to the map pool along with the addition of Lotus, and the two maps will be replacing Breeze and Bind in competitive and unrated matches. Split has received multiple tweaks since debuting in Valorant’s closed beta, which include silent drops down Mid platform for all players as well as minor adjustments on both sides of the map.
The Valorant 6.00 patch will also fix over a dozen bugs, including 10 focused solely on the playable Agents. Killjoy’s Lockdown ability will now take damage from all other abilities, for example, while Sova’s Hunter’s Fury will no longer damage an ally Fade’s Haunt.
Valorant is available to play now for free on PC. Xbox Game Pass for PC owners can unlock all playable Agents by linking their Game Pass account to their Riot account.

Flying cars are no longer a thing of science fiction. Thanks to Aska, we may have them sooner than expected.
According to a CNET report, Aska is preparing to showcase the A5 sometime “within a month” and to purchase one, and it’ll cost you $789,000 with a $5,000 deposit. The vehicle is about the same size as an SUV with propellers on top, similar to a helicopter, and fits into a traditional parking space. But for the A5 to take off and land, the vehicle needs an area the size of a helipad.
The A5 is powered by electric batteries supported by a gas engine that uses premium gasoline. Thanks to its gas engine, the A5 can travel an additional 50 miles of range and can be charged at home or at an EV station. Currently, the A5 can reach up to a max speed of 150mph and travel up to 250 miles on a single charge.
As of now, the Aska A5 needs a pilot to fly, but co-founder and ceo Aska Kaplinsky expects the A5 to be fully autonomous by 2030 to help avoid air collisions. Aska aims to start a ride-sharing service in 2026 to help tackle long commutes. To help people move further from big cities and reduce the number of cars they own.
Even though Aska currently makes one to two A5s a month, they still need to get approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and other agencies to make the car street-legal.

It looks like Valve might enable local network downloads for Steam Deck, making it easier and quicker to get games on the handheld.
Pavel Djundik, creator of Steam DB, posted on Twitter that Valve had added more code related to moving files from the PC to Steam Decks through local networks. Djundik previously tweeted about Steam working on peer-to-peer downloads in October 2022.

Now Playing: Steam Deck – Everything To Know
As some Twitter users pointed out, it’s like Warpinator–where users can send and transfer files over local networks–but for the Steam ecosystem.
Last Steam update added some strings for this: > This feature allows your PC to transfer game files to and from other PCs or Steam Decks on your local network, reducing your Internet traffic while downloading or updating a game Can limit to own devices, friends, or any user.
For now, Steam Deck downloads still need to be done through wi-fi, which for particularly large games, can take a long time. Or if you have more than one gamer in the house, the process takes even longer.
The Steam Deck is still relatively new, but there’s definitely a second-generation Steam Deck planned. According to the designers who spoke to The Verge in an interview, they’d like to focus on improving the console’s battery life and screen in the next iteration. It’s unknown when we can expect to see the future V2 Steam Deck.
In other Steam news, Valve released the results of its 2022 Steam Awards. Elden Ring nabbed both Game of the Year and Best Game You Suck At. Outstanding Story-Rich Game went to God of War and Best Game On The Go went to Death Stranding Director’s Cut.

AMD has confirmed that it is indeed faulty vapour chambers causing the hotspot overheating issues with its new $1,000 Radeon RX 7900 XTX (opens in new tab) boards.
Speaking to PC World’s Gordon Mah Ung (opens in new tab), AMD’s Scott Herkelman explained that the problem exclusively impacts 7900 XTX boards and “Made by AMD” cards only, rather than any AIB-designed products, although these “Made by” cards were sold both on AMD.com and by their board partners.
Herkelman says AMD responded as soon as it first heard of some cards reportedly running at higher than expected temps.
“We immediately sprung into action,” Herkelman says. “First, is there a safety concern? There’s not a safety concern. Next, is there a potential performance issue? And we found that if you hit 110 degrees in certain workloads you would see a small performance delta.”
AMD then set about “root causing” the issue, a process that Herkelman says took two weeks, explaining that they wanted to make sure they had identified the correct cause.
“It all comes down to a small batch of vapour chambers that don’t have enough water. It’s a very small percentage,” he claims.
From here, AMD says its priority is making sure customers get fully functioning replacement cards as soon as possible. “You spent a lot of money if you bought this XTX board. We want to fix it for you. Just call our tech support line if you bought it from AMD.com. We have units that are identified as good that we will ship to you right away.”
Jacob confirmed our review sample suffers from the issue. You can see the high hotspot temp recorded here under ‘GPU temperature 2’. The lower than expected clock speed is also shown in the graphs. These results are taken from a three lap run of F1 22’s benchmark at Ultra settings and 4K. (Image credit: Future)
Which is great, except as we reported a few days ago (opens in new tab), AMD seemingly dragged its feet when customers originally got in contact about hotspot issues. Granted, it must be tricky to filter out the usual internet squawking from actual, real-world issues. But our overall sense is that AMD could have been more responsive earlier. After all, we are talking about people who have just spent $1,000 on a brand new GPU.
It’s not just AMD that has suffered issues with this new round of high end GPUs, of course. Nvidia’s RTX 40 series has its own tale of melting power connector woe. It’s a rather unedifying trend.

If your Destiny 2 New Year’s resolution has been to complete your Exotic arsenal in 2023, then a quick visit to Xur should help you out on that front. The Agent of the Nine has made his weekly scheduled stop, and as always, he has a fresh selection of gear on offer. Here’s where you can find Xur and what Exotics he’s selling this week.
This week you can find Xur on Nessus, in the Watcher’s Grave area. For his weapon, Xur is offering Two-Tailed Fox. Hunters can pick up The Dragon’s Shadow chest armor; Titans can grab the Ursa Furiosa gauntlets; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Eye of Another World helmet.
Xur Location
Xur’s location on Nessus.
Head to Nessus and use the Watcher’s Grave transmat zone to find Xur this week. When you arrive, hop on your sparrow and head north toward the exit of the area. Look for a big tree with pink moss on the right side of the area. Climb up onto its big, flat branch, where you can reach Xur.
Xur is present every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET each Friday. His exact location is always a mystery when he first arrives, as he is not listed on the map, and for novice players, he can be easy to miss. However, there are a set number of locations where he takes up residence, including the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher’s Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ.

Two-Tailed Fox
Two-Tailed Fox shows up often in Xur’s inventory, and in case you’ve missed out on it several times, then here’s another chance to acquire a rocket launcher that packs a unique one-two punch. Specifically two rockets with each squeeze of the trigger, with one rocket dealing Solar damage and the other delivering a Void payload. Throw in some aggressive tracking features, and you’ve got a pretty good rocket launcher option, just in case you don’t have Gjallarhorn in your collection.

Dead Man’s Tale
Sticking to tried and trusted combinations this week, Xur is once again offering a Dead Man’s Tale scout rifle with a Moving Target perk. That gives you increased movement speed and target acquisition when moving and aiming down sights, but it does clash with DMT’s hip-fire nature. Fitted Stock ties in nicely with this perk, plus there’s a handy Ricochet Rounds ability here as well.

Hawkmoon
Hawkmoon has an interesting roll this week, as you don’t see a combo of Surplus, Alloy Magazine, and Arrowhead Brake too often. Basically, you’ll be able to line those critical hits up more easily thanks to low vertical recoil, take advantage of increased stats if your abilities are charged, and quickly reload after you deliver that final Paracausal Shot.

The Dragon’s Shadow
With this being an Iron Banner week, it’s worth grabbing The Dragon’s Shadow to give you an edge in Lord Saladin’s arena. The Wrathmetal Mail perk allows for a dodge to reload all weapons and increases movement and weapon handling speeds, making this a nifty piece of armor for Hunters in PvP. It doesn’t come around too often either, so grab it while you can.

Ursa Furiosa
There’s a few great Sentinel Shield builds out there for Titans, and for players who want to be the line in the sand for their fireteam, Ursa Furiosa is a must-have Exotic. Ursine Guard will let you move more quickly when Sentinel Shield is active, plus any damage you soak up from your Super ability will refund Super energy back to your Titan once the ability ends.

Eye of Another World
While there are other Exotics out there for Warlocks that make grenade-spamming easier, Eye of Another World still has its uses. You’ll get some useful grenade, rift, and melee recharge out of this helmet, but its the increase to airborne effectiveness and the ability to mark priority targets that makes this gear stand out. This week’s version of the helmet admittedly doesn’t have great stats though, but it’s worth grabbing to help complete your collection.

Genshin Impact 3.4 is soon to arrive, bringing new characters Alhaitham and Yaoyao, but also a surprise new mini-area: the Desert of Hadramaveth. This sandstorm-wracked region has new enemies, a boss, and even its very own questline focused around finding a long-lost oasis.
The yearly Lantern Rite Festival is also almost upon us with its popular array of free stuff, event mini-games, and the opportunity to recruit Yaoyao for free, as it was with Yun Jin (opens in new tab) during last year’s event. As with Keqing (opens in new tab) and Ningguang last year, we’ve also got some new outfits for Ayaka (opens in new tab) and Lisa this time around, styled on Fontaine and Sumeru respectively.
All in all, it’s a whole heap of stuff—a hell of a lot more than I was expecting from a mid-region update to be honest. Here I’ll run through everything there is to know about the Genshin Impact 3.4 update, including release date, characters, events, and details about the new area. Also, be sure to grab the Genshin Impact codes (opens in new tab) from the livestream for some free Primogems (if you’re looking at this on the day it was published.)
Genshin Impact 3.4 release date
The Genshin Impact 3.4 release date is January 18, 2023. There will be the usual maintenance period beforehand and Primogem compensation afterwards. The first phase of 3.4 features banners for Alhaitham and Xiao (opens in new tab), with Yaoyao as a boosted four-star, then Hu Tao (opens in new tab) and Yelan (opens in new tab)‘s banners will be available in the second phase.
Genshin Impact 3.4 characters
Image 1 of 2
Alhaitham (Image credit: miHoYo)
Yaoyao (Image credit: miHoYo)
There are two new characters in Genshin Impact 3.4, as well as three reruns:
Alhaitham: You should be familiar with this five-star Anemo sword-user if you’ve played Genshin recently, since he features quite prominently in the Sumeru Archon quest. Alhaitham is a wandering scribe from the Akademiya, and uses Chisel-Light Mirrors in combat, infusing his attacks with Dendro and following up with further attacks similar to Xingqiu’s Raincutter burst. His banner will be available in the first phase of Genshin Impact 3.4 on January 18. His five-star Light of Foliar sword will also be available on the Epitome Invocation weapon banner.
Yaoyao: One of the longest-rumoured Genshin characters around, many expected Yaoyao to arrive during the Moonchase Festival back in 2021, but the four-star Dendro polearm-user has finally appeared. Yaoyao is a healer, and has a strange sounding ability where she fires radishes out of her backpack, healing you and damaging enemies at the same time. She’s available as a boosted four-star on the Alhaitham and Xiao banners from January 18, though you’ll be able to earn her for free during Lantern Rite.
In terms of reruns, Xiao appears alongside Althaitham in the first phase, while Hu Tao and Yelan are arriving in the second around February 8.
Genshin Impact 3.4 new region

There are underground oases to explore as well (Image credit: miHoYo)
The Desert of Hadramaveth is a new part of Sumeru we’ll be able to visit in version 3.4. It sounds even more barren than the current desert, with randomly occurring sandstorms, and a giant hurricane that has twisted the region’s scenery. There will also be plenty of underground areas to explore, including the ruins of Gurabad, a long-lost ancient city. This new area ties into the version 3.4 story quest, which sees us searching for the Scarlet King’s eternal oasis hidden somewhere in the desert.
Genshin Impact 3.4 events
The biggest event in Genshin Impact 3.4 is the returning Lantern Rite Festival, which has a story quest and plenty of mini-games to try out. In the questline we’ll be organising a music festival alongside familiar faces, as well as uncovering more tales from the past with Ganyu (opens in new tab) and Cloud Retainer.
The main Lantern Rite events are:
Liyue art: Paper Theater, where you have to complete paper plays by swapping out sections of the stage.
Radiant Sparks is a time trial race with the added twist that you transform into a firework to blast through barriers.
Floating Lanterns Mystique is a boat-based puzzle where you have to collect lanterns.
There are also some combat trials to complete. If you earn enough Festive Fever event currency, you’ll be able to invite a four-star Liyue character to your party, including Yaoyao. There are also the usual ten free Intertwined Fates to collect as login bonuses during the event.
Almighty Arataki Extraordinary and Exhilarating Extreme Beetle Brawl is the real name of an actual event where we’ll duel beetles fighting-game style. Warrior’s Spirit is the return of the fighting tournament mode where you can’t use skills and have to parry instead. Ayaka also has a special Fontaine-inspired outfit that will feature during this event.
Second Bloom is a combat-challenge event that involves linking characters to gain bonuses while fighting in three consecutive rounds. You can earn Lisa’s new Sumeru-inspired outfit for free during this event. Lastly, the Genius Invokation card game is getting a Heated Battle Mode, which features a different special rule every version, starting with automatically getting eight Omni Element Dice at the start of a game.
Genshin Impact 3.4 new boss
The ‘Setekh Wenut’ boss (Image credit: miHoYo)
The new Desert of Hadramaveth region comes with a new boss: Setekh Wenut. This flying Anemo worm looks a little similar to the Ruin Serpent in The Chasm, and will burrow underground or float through the air above you to rain down Wind Bite Bullets.
Genshin Impact 3.4 outfits
Image 1 of 2
Lisa ‘A Sobriquet Under Shade’ outfit (Image credit: miHoYo)
As with last year’s Lantern Rite, there are two new character outfits: Springbloom Missive for Ayaka, and A Sobriquet Under Shade for Lisa. The former is featured in the Warrior’s Spirit event, but you sadly won’t be able to earn it for free. Only Lisa’s outfit can be earned from the Second Bloom event, while you have to buy Ayaka’s from the store.
Also I wasn’t kidding about that beetle fighting game
Microsoft has removed claims that the Federal Trade Commission violates the US Constitution and admits that it made a mistake.
According to a report from Axios, the new filing still holds to the previous version’s central argument–that Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard would not stifle competition. However, a five bullet-point section claiming that the FTC’s structure and in-house administrative court violates the Constitution, the separation of powers, as well as the due process clause of the fifth Amendment, has been removed.
A Microsoft representative told Axios that, “The FTC has an important mission to protect competition and consumers, and we quickly updated our response to omit language suggesting otherwise based on the constitution. We initially put all potential arguments on the table internally and should have dropped these defenses before we filed. We appreciated feedback about these defenses and are engaging directly with those who expressed concerns to make our position clear.”
Activision also dropped the same allegations in its response to the case. In November, the Supreme Court heard a separate case that suggested the FTC violates the Constitution–no ruling has been released as of yet.

2023 got off to a tragic start with the death of Ken Block (opens in new tab), the legendary American rally driver whose gymkhana stunt videos (opens in new tab) have accrued hundreds of millions of views in their time. In those videos, Block performed stylish and stylishly-edited routines requiring precise timing and borderline-supernatural talent. So, naturally, a bunch of Block fans in the Grand Theft Auto Online community took it upon themselves to make an in-game gymkhana video (via PCGamesN (opens in new tab)) of their own in tribute to the man himself.
Created by the TuttoAuto (opens in new tab) group, it’s peppered with all sorts of references to Block’s original gymkhana videos. A stunt from Gymkhana 7 (opens in new tab)—in which Block drifts under a car as it hydraulically bounces its front wheels in the air—is recreated to a tee, and more Block-knowledgeable Redditors than I have already clocked other little details (opens in new tab) that tip their hats to the real-life stunt shows.
It’s a testament to the dedication and skill of the tribute’s creators that it was created completely without the aid of mods. Replying to a comment on Reddit, a TuttoAuto admin clarified that the video was created (opens in new tab)using only “the ingame cars and some skill”. A fair bit of skill, I’d say. If I attempted something similar, the whole video would end up resembling a kind of extended Mr. Bean skit.
Fans of Block and fans of cool stuff happening in GTA Online are united in their positive response to the video, which has garnered a sparkling array of Reddit awards I’m not even going to try and name as well as a few thousand upvotes since it appeared two days ago. “I think if he was here he’d be proud of you all,” said one Redditor (opens in new tab), while another complimented (opens in new tab) the “Quality production, camera work, driving and some of Ken’s iconic moves.”
Block was no stranger to videogames himself, or at least no stranger to appearing in them. An accomplished rally racer, he appeared as a driver in the DiRT series—and even recorded a video (opens in new tab) to promote the third game’s then-new gymkhana mode—as well as the WRC: FIA World Rally Championship game and Need For Speed. He died in a snowmobile accident on January 2 this year, at 55 years old.

Xbox Game Pass announcements have looked a little differently recently. At the beginning of the month and mid-month, Xbox traditionally releases official announcements stating what games are arriving and departing the service. But recent Game Pass additions have taken the form of sporadic surprise announcements.
For January, Stranded Deep and Mortal Shell were added to Game Pass suddenly. Shadow Warrior 3 is also rumored, but unconfirmed right now, due to a notification some players received. The message stated Shadow Warrior 3 is available to “play now,” suggesting the game will be available soon on Game Pass.
