Black Eye Games, the developer of the medieval MMO Gloria Victis, has announced that it will shut down the game and close its doors at the conclusion of the current season. The studio said the shutdown is “mostly due to financial reasons,” but also that the effort of keeping the game running and growing has also left the team exhausted and burned out.

Gloria Victis only went into full release on Steam in January 2023—less than a year ago—but it spent six years in early access prior to that. Development began even earlier, in 2012, and while a Kickstarter that year failed to meet its goal, the team persisted and a pre-alpha version was released in 2013 through the gloriavictisgame.com website.

There are 29 separate entries on PC Gamer’s list of times Ubisoft has assured everyone that it’s still definitely, totally, 100% working on Beyond Good and Evil 2, and yet somehow the prospect of that game coming out seems more remote than ever. But cheer up, because the first game is still quite excellent, and a recent leak from the ESRB—the US game ratings board—suggests that we’re due for a new version of it imminently.

Spotted by Twitter user Knoebelbroet, a listing for “Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition” is live on the ESRB’s website right now, and is marked as coming to PS4, PS5, Switch, modern Xboxes, and, yes, good old Windows PC. There are even links to storefronts where you’ll presumably be able to buy it, although none of them lead to proper purchase pages right now.

It took eight long years, but the Five Nights at Freddy’s film is finally just about here, and today we got our first proper look at the real stars of the show: Foxy, Bonnie, Chica, and of course, Freddy himself.

The trailer opens with a break-in at the infamous Freddy Fazbear’s pizza joint, a half-robbery, half-vandalism job that ends very badly for the four unlucky idiots who decided it would be a good idea. With that bit of setup out of the way, the video (and the whole film) moves to more closely follow the events of the first game in the series: A security guard takes a job watching over the decrepit eatery, only to discover that its beloved animatronic mascots are a little more active, and a little less friendly, than he was led to believe.

When was the last time AMD’s graphics subdivision sold more graphics cards than Nvidia? According to data from industry analysts, the answer is way back in 2005 when the company was called ATI and had yet to be acquired by AMD. Ouch.

But wait, there’s good news. Kinda. The latest data from JPR shows AMD regaining some market share from Nvidia. Don’t get too excited. The new figures put AMD at 17.5% of overall desktop graphics card market share for the second quarter of 2023.

As we draw closer to the launch of AMD’s RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT graphics cards, it comes as little surprise that production of RDNA 2 based chips including Navi 23 is progressively ending. This GPU powers the RX 6600 series and for a long time it carried AMD’s mid range hopes.

IT Home (via Tom’s Hardware) reports stocks of AMD’s RX 6650 XT are nearly sold out, with the last remaining stocks expected to be gone by the end of September. In China, the price of AIB cards has dropped from its launch price of 3,099 yuan to under 2,000 yuan. We’ve seen similar discounts in the west, and for a long time the RX 6600 series delivered very good bang for buck, and still does if you can find one at a runout price.

Riot Games has announced that Mythic items will be removed from League of Legends in January 2024, and while removing a key game mechanic doesn’t always go over well with a community, in this particular case the player seem pretty happy about it.

Mythic items were introduced to League of Legends in 2021 as powerful “cornerstones in your builds with big effects that define your playstyle from game to game.” Players could only carry a single Mythic item at a time, and unlike Legendaries in LoL, they included special passive effects.

However you want to play the internet’s favourite word game, I’ve got you covered.

Opening with three yellow letters is always a good sign, even if my corrective follow-up only proved that my next guess was way off the mark. Still, knowing where letters don’t go can be as helpful as finding out where they do some days, and thanks to them I found today’s Wordle answer in just three guesses.

While catching up with a friend recently, we were, of course, talking about our Baldur’s Gate 3 playthroughs. “Does that goblin lady from the intro cutscene ever show up again?” He innocently asked me. Goblin lady from the intro, what do you—bro, are you talking about Lae’zel?

30+ hours into this game and he’d completely bypassed one of my favorite companions, the prophesied lady version of Sten from Dragon Age, the daffy Gith who’d stolen PCG print editor Robert Jones’ heart. What did the Creche Y’llek sequence even look like for my friend? He experienced a completely different game.

Sea of Stars is another indie RPG inspired by unnamed yet obvious classics. This time around it’s (mostly) Chrono Trigger. There’s the seamless battle transition, there’s the techs—sorry, combos—there’s the Yasunori Mitsuda soundtrack, the cozy campfire, the overworld presented in a very Chrono Trigger-y sort of way. Been there, done that, got the time-travelling t-shirt.

What separates Sea of Stars from the ever-increasing pile of RPGs that think they can recapture the spirit and sales of the ’90s is that it understands the difference between “inspired by” and “mindlessly copying.” As familiar as its foundations may be, every second spent with the game is a second spent with an adventure that’s more eager to be itself than it is Famous SNES RPG Clone #7632.
