Remnant 2 is filled with tense action and brutal boss fights. The first DLC offering, The Awakened King, is no different, as you’ll have to put an end to a mad lord. Our guide discusses how to beat the One True King in Remnant 2. We also talk about weapon rewards, such as the Monarch for the normal kill and the Wrathbringer for the alternate kill. Lastly, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
How to beat the One True King in Remnant 2
To beat the One True King in Remnant 2’s The Awakened King DLC, you need to be mindful of his vicious melee strikes, deadly flame breath, and self-healing mechanic. However, before we discuss the encounter itself, we urge you to check our Nimue decisions/rewards guide. That’s because you’re given several options on how to deal with the goddess Nimue and the mad monarch himself. Your decisions regarding Nimue, as well as when you fight the boss, lead to specific rewards.
Take note that the normal kill method rewards you with the Monarch weapon. The alternate kill method, meanwhile, requires a couple of unique items, though you’ll receive the Wrathbringer weapon for your efforts.
One True King boss abilities
The Remnant 2 One True King boss transports you to a separate throne room once the fight begins. This foe has several devastating abilities:
- Teleport – The One True King frequently teleports around his throne room, so be ready to switch your aim.
- Melee Crush – The boss will attempt to smash you up to two times using his club. The attack animation is fairly slow, so you can dodge-roll to avoid it.
- Ground Pound – The boss will use his giant mallet to strike the ground, causing a shockwave to emanate outward. This will stagger your character, and you need to roll to regain control of them. When below 50% HP, this ability is also used in conjunction with other moves, including a double strike that causes eruptions to burst outward.
- Flame Breath – He’ll breathe fire at your location, continuously tracking you as you move around for several seconds.
- Shatterstorm – A golden glow will surround the boss. The aura will pull you in, followed by a tremendous explosion. You need to keep rolling away from your foe.
- Dran Summon and Healing – The boss will float in mid-air and become temporarily impervious to all damage. He’ll then spawn a dozen Dran villagers. You need to kill them within a short span of time as, otherwise, he’ll restore a percentage of his HP based on the health of the Dran mobs that have survived. Likewise, several pillars of flame will erupt from the ground, so try to stay on the move.
Thankfully, the boss’ attacks are easily telegraphed. There are also pillars in the throne room that will block some of the hits, though it’s usually better to judge roll out of the way. He can also get temporarily stunned if you deal enough damage to break his mallet weapon. Likewise, make sure you’re able to eliminate all the summoned mobs to prevent the boss from restoring too much of his HP. Lastly, the boss weak spot is the dark void that represents his face, though it’s a bit tricky to hit.

Best archetypes/classes and weapons to use against the One True King
We battled the Remnant 2 One True King boss several times while trying to see different outcomes/rewards. We feel that the Engineer class is a great option since its turret can shoot the boss and the Dran mobs. As for the starting classes, the Medic and Handler are quite decent for solo players. The former offers unrivaled healing, while the latter has a dog companion that can regenerate your HP and even revive you if you’re downed.
As for weapons, the Enigma was our top choice, thanks to its Chaos Driver mod. With it, we just shot several rods that consistently damaged the boss, as we attempted to avoid his attacks. Moreover, the gun’s default firing mod already causes a chain lightning effect. It’s a great way to damage the boss and his melee weapon, as well as the dozens of adds that appear.
Normal kill: Agony Spike material and Monarch weapon
If you manage to defeat the One True King boss normally, you’ll receive the Agony Spike material. You can exchange this in Ward 13 to receive the Remnant 2 Monarch long gun. It has the following characteristics:
- Unique mod: Chain of Command – Activate Harpoon Mode to mark a target, causing primary fire to become homing rounds that deal 15% reduced damage; enemies hit by homing rounds build Influence. Once Influence is full, Monarch automatically reloads and triggers a shockwave. The wielder gains 20% increased damage and infinite ammo reserves. The effect lasts 20 seconds.
- Damage: 12
- RPS: 10.5
- Magazine: 60/240
- Crit chance: 10%
- Weak spot damage bonus: 105%
Long story short: The Monarch in Remnant 2 is a full-auto shredder. Although each bullet doesn’t do a lot of damage, the idea is to activate its Harpoon Mode so you can build Influence asap. In doing so, you’ll trigger the boosted damage and unlimited ammo buff, which is great when you’re mowing down numerous targets.

Alternate kill: Tormentor’s Pommel material and Wrathbringer weapon
The Remnant 2 One True King boss alternate kill method requires you to equip two out of three unique items before you decide to fight him. These tend to be related to the One True King’s history and background as well:
- One True King’s Sigil – This is tied to the Faerin or Faelin boss fight if you start a Losomn run in the Beatific Palace. The goal is to defeat one boss, then return to that person’s counterpart to receive a sigil. Do another run, beat the other opponent, and claim the sigil from their counterpart. When you visit Nimue in the regular Losomn zone, you can obtain the One True King’s Sigil.
- Assassin’s Dagger – This is related to the “Who Is Guilty?” investigation in the Council Chamber in Losomn. You’ll find the Assassin’s Dagger quest item at the back of the throne. However, instead of using it to complete the side quest involving the councilors, you must hand it over to Nimue instead. You’ll then receive weapon variant of the Assassin’s Dagger.
- Crown of the Red Prince – Following the above and assuming you already have the Assassin’s Dagger, you’ll need to defeat the Red Prince, a boss in the Gilded Chamber dungeon in Losomn. You must land the final blow with a hit from the Assassin’s Dagger. As such, you must avoid other types of damage (i.e. turrets, minions, or damage-over-time effects) when the boss’ health is very low. If you do it right, you’ll acquire the Crown of the Red Prince.
As you can see, the above items will take you a while to obtain, especially due to multiple Adventure Mode reruns. Once you have at least two of the above, make sure you have them equipped when you talk to the One True King. Upon selecting a response with a crossed swords icon (i.e. initiate combat), the One True King will remark that you’ll be punished for your insolence for daring to wear such items. Take him out as you normally would to receive the Tormentor’s Pommel material.
Note that we initially tried wearing only a single required item (i.e. Crown of the Red Prince), but we still ended up with the Agony Spike. However, when we equipped at least two (i.e. Crown of the Red Prince and One True King’s Sigil), that’s when we received the Tormentor’s Pommel. Likewise, we did equip all three items in another attempt, though we still got the Tormentor’s Pommel for our troubles.
In any case, the Remnant 2 One True King alternate kill nets you the Wrathbringer melee weapon, which has the following characteristics:
- Unique mod: Awakening – Incoming damage grants the Awakening buff, increasing melee damage by 5% per stack for 10 seconds; maximum of 10 stacks.
- Damage: 101
- Crit chance: 6%
- Weak spot modifier: 85%
- Stagger modifier: 80%
Note that the Wrathbringer’s melee boost also works on self-inflicted damage, such as the bleeding debuff from the Atonement Fold ring sold by Leywise the Scribe. As such, the boost should have 100% uptime, though you still need to be mindful of your character’s health.
In any case, that’s everything you need to know about the Remnant 2 One True King boss fight, alternate kill, and rewards. Don’t forget that there are also several outcomes and rewards depending on how you deal with Nimue in the Awakened King DLC.

You’ll find a lot of goodies in Remnant 2, one of which is a reward from an NPC who has fallen out of favor. Our guide discusses how to get the Index of the Scribe in Remnant 2: The Awakened King, which requires you to find a tome for an NPC named Leywise.
How to get the Index of the Scribe from Leywise in Remnant 2: The Awakened King
To get the Index of the Scribe in Remnant 2: The Awakened King, you’ll need to find the Misplaced Memoir quest item so it can be given to Leywise. Leywise himself is met fairly early on when you begin your DLC run. Upon spawning in the Forlorn Coast, you should find him inside the first sewer area that’s adjacent to the docks.
Leywise gives you a brief background about himself, and he also sells some wares. These include the Atonement Fold, a ring that inflicts bleeding on your character while also increasing your critical hit chance by 10%.
Misplaced Memoir location
We found the Misplaced Memoir at the back alley past the entrance to the palace. We got to this area much later in our Awakened King DLC run. You can see the location on the map below:
Take note that procedural generation and randomness might apply, but here’s what transpired during our run:
- From the initial area in the Forlorn Coast, we entered the Great Sewers dungeon and took out the Bloat King miniboss.
- From there, we reached another part of the Forlorn Coast, known as the Drowned Wen. We continued exploring past the dockyards (where we unlocked the Ritualist class) until we arrived at the Mournful Promenade.
- The bridge leading to the palace was ruined, so we climbed down a ladder that looped around the cliffside area. This led to a checkpoint (not a nominal fast travel point).
- At the end of the palace ruins, we eliminated a Nobleman elite. We then saw the red glow of the Misplaced Memoir quest item at the back of the square.

Index of the Scribe effects
Now that you have the Misplaced Memoir, it’s time to acquire the Index of the Scribe in Remnant 2: The Awakened King. Simply return to Leywise’s location in the initial sewers area. You should be able to unlock a large wooden door at the palace yards that leads back down to the sewers.
Hand over the quest item to Leywise and you’ll be given the Index of the Scribe. This amulet has the following effect: Increases mod and skill weak spot damage by 35%.
As you can see, the damage boost from this amulet is quite significant, especially if you can land weak spot hits often with pinpoint accuracy. Don’t forget that you can still obtain other goodies, such as the Nimue decisions/rewards and the Monarch weapon.
Remnant 2: The Awakened King takes you to a new zone in the region of Losomn. The DLC itself is filled with many secrets, including the Ritualist class. For other tips and tactics, you can visit our Remnant 2 guides hub.

As always with a new Call of Duty game, there’s a grind to level up and unlock all your weapons, perks, killstreaks, and equipment, but Modern Warfare 3‘s player progression works a bit differently. This year adds the new Armory Unlocks system, which locks specific items behind daily challenges. Here we give you some tips to get everything in the armory unlocked fast.
Amory Unlock system explained
Modern Warfare 3’s Armory Unlock system adds to Call of Duty’s grind by requiring you unlock many of the game’s items through completion of daily challenges. This means several weapons, perks, killstreaks, and other equipment pieces that you’d normally unlock through natural player progression are now stuck behind these challenges, including the trophy system, Cold-Blooded and Covert Sneakers perks, VTOL Jet killstreak, and several new weapons.
Your set of three daily challenges will refresh every 24 hours at 9 PM PT/ 12 AM ET, and you’ll want to try to do them all in order to unlock some of the essential perks and gear locked in the armory. You’ll get one point for each daily you complete, but if you complete all three daily challenges, you’ll get a bonus challenge to let you earn even more unlock points.
The MP and Zombies challenges are separate, so you’ll want to try to do both sets of dailies to maximize your points earned each day.
How to access Armory Unlock menus
You won’t have access to these unlock challenges right away, but once you reach level 25 you can access the Armory. Under your daily challenges in the left hand side of the lobby menu, you’ll see an option to hit Triangle or Y on consoles to “select a new armory challenge.”
This takes you to your Armory unlocks. There is a tab for each category: Weapon, Aftermarket Parts, Perks, Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Killstreaks.
To make sure your points are counting towards the item you want most, you’ll need to actively select the item as an active armory unlock goal. You can set one to actively work towards, and queue other items you want to follow after it.
How to unlock items fast and efficiently
Armory unlocks add a huge grind to the game, but there are ways to make the experience a bit faster, and it keeps you from wasting too many points.
First, you’ll obviously want to prioritize things like weapons, perks, and killstreaks over smaller equipment like the Snapshot grenade. Make note of the items in these categories that you’re most likely to use and how many points they take. For example, the VTOL Jet killstreak costs 8 unlock points, whereas the care package streak only costs 2. Make sure you always have some of these priority items set in your queue.
Second, there is an additional way to unlock guns and equipment, so you don’t want to waste your precious unlock points on these. Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode works much like DMZ, meaning you can unlock weapons and equipment by successfully extracting the items. You can unlock all of the equipment and weapons this way, and this will save your precious unlock points for things like perks and killstreaks.
Most of the weapons can be found as either a Wall Buy or as a random gun in the Mystery Box, and the equipment is easily found in ammo caches and loot containers throughout the world. Also, make sure to communicate with your friends. If someone else already has a gun unlocked, they can drop it for you in Zombies for you to exfil.
Note: Some items can be bugged when unlocking through the Zombies exfil method. At the moment, the drill charge is not unlocking for me, but it did unlock for my teammates. Just keep trying.
For more on Modern Warfare 3, make sure to check out our guide on how to level up faster, including both player rank and weapon progression. Here we highlight all the MW3 mastery camos and how to unlock them.

You won’t be hearing from me for a while—I’m going to be quite busy clicking. That’s because I started playing 4X city builder clicker Microcivilization this morning, and then I didn’t stop. I played it before work, I played it while I was in a meeting at work, and I’m about to keep playing it over my lunch break.
I didn’t expect to get so quickly drawn into this unassuming pixelated little strategy city builder. Things start out innocently enough: in the stone age, begin by foraging for food (by clicking) and building huts (by clicking). Research new technology for farming, cooking, and combat (by clicking and then waiting), build a market to earn gold, build a fort for defense, and—click—you’ve suddenly got a busy civilization going.
But things can turn south pretty quickly as your civilization encounters a crisis. These crises—barbarian raids, mammoth stampedes, deadly fires, communicable diseases, and occasionally all-out revolutions—are always exciting and frantic. Each disaster has a huge health bar you have to chip away at using your soldiers, archers, and other combat units, enhanced by whatever special abilities your buildings have stocked up. At the same time you need to protect your structures and citizens using your city’s defensive capabilities, as the attack arrow on the crisis bar slowly approaches events like mass deaths or the destruction of buildings.
While all this is happening, you need to regenerate spearmen, forts, and whatever else you’re burning through in the fight, and spend gold to quickly buy more resources, all by madly clicking away. It’s amazingly tense and surviving a crisis by the skin of your teeth is a huge relief. Each defeated crisis also grants you a new hero who will give your city a buff in combat, resource gathering, industry, or wealth. Over time you can collect dozens of these leaders (some from actual history like Cleopatra and Marco Polo) and even merge them to create new elite heroes.
My current president (well, monarch, I guess, because she wasn’t elected by the masses, just dragged-and-dropped into power by me) generates 22% more wood each time I click, and reduces the risk of the next crisis by a full 20%! Unfortunately, when I have this ability of hers activated, 1 citizen in my city is killed every 2 seconds. You can see why she probably wouldn’t have won an election with that kind of campaign promise, but her ability to stave off disaster in exchange for human sacrifice is worth it to me as long as I don’t think about it.
At the end of that first primitive era is a massive crisis, much worse than anything you’ve faced, and if you survive it you can ascend to a new age, taking your leaders and heroes with you. Advance to the classical era, the medieval age, the renaissance, the industrial era, and even modern times, building new cities, learning new technologies, and battling against new crises like bombing runs from enemy airplanes to meteor strikes from gods themselves.
It’s all pretty captivating and hard to stop playing because new unlocks are always just around the bend and the promise of surviving to a new era of civilization and technology is alluring. The pixel art and animation is fantastic, too, as you watch your tiny handful of citizens grow into a city packed with buildings and structures. Right before the angry herd of mammoths rush in and begin stomping all of it.
Microcivilization launched on Steam today in early access, and it’s 10% off for the next week. And a little tip to save your clicking finger from someone who’s literally still playing it while writing this: you can also just hold down A and S to generate food and buildings. Be warned: no matter how you click, you can always overdo it. Try to mash out too many citizens and buildings too quickly, and you may trigger another crisis. So, cool it from time to time.

Well, here’s an odd one. Last night, hundreds of furious World of Warcraft players took to Blizzard’s forums to voice their complaints about a bug that is making the game all but unplayable, which seems to have emerged from the recent 10.2 update. The twist? All of these players are located in Norway.
The issue was summarised by the Reddit user tastes-like-lemon on the r/wow subreddit, and it’s certainly unusual. According to the post, “Loading screens will very frequently freeze, and you need to ALT+F4 and relog to resolve the problem. This means you’re failing to load into m+, group finder content, PVP games and raids dozens of times every day during active play, and often getting booted from the group when this happens.”
The Blizzard thread where the issue was originally reported now stretches to 307 posts. The general consensus is that it’s a networking issue, with tastes-like-lemon stating that some users “are showing traceroute results that prove significant trouble routing past certain hops on the route to the IPs Blizzard uses for Norway.”
Yet while the issue seems to be affecting Norway exclusively, it isn’t clear that the problem originates in the country itself. One Norwegian player who goes by Xilong states in the thread, “When you look above on the people doing trace routes you will find that the steps within Norway are fine and it is the 137.221.78.29 node in the Netherlands belonging to Blizzard itself that is the issue, so 100% a Blizzard issue that Blizzard needs to fix.”
It’s also unclear whether the issue stems from the 10.2 update. One poster on the thread, who goes by Linariver, states, “I started having this issue 2 days before the patch hit,” while another, Phaseshift, says the issue “spans over multiple blizzard games” including WoW retail, WoW classic, Diablo IV, and Hearthstone.
Blizzard has yet to comment on the problem, either in the thread or any other kind of announcement. While the issue remains unresolved, some Norwegian users are managing to circumvent the problem by using a VPN to play the game through the networks of other nearby countries like Sweden and the Netherlands. But it goes without saying that this isn’t a long term solution, and Blizzard needs to address the problem as quickly as possible.
