If you’re looking for a way to further elevate your PC gaming setup, a high-end audio system is a wonderful way to do it. Take this DAC/amp from Drop and Xduoo. Not only does it deliver detailed and vibrant audio to your ears, it also scratches the aesthetic itch thanks to four gloriously glowing tubes.

The Drop + Xduoo TA-84 OTL Tube Amp/DAC is a bit of a mouthful, so let’s break down what this $349 device actually does.

Last year a Kickstarter for a remastered version of Spiderweb Software’s CRPG Geneforge 2 passed its humble $30,000 goal and raised $76,777 based on its promise of “Open ended fantasy role-playing fun with your own army of custom-made mutant monsters.” That remaster, which is called Geneforge 2 – Infestation, will be out on March 27.

As Andy Chalk said when the Kickstarter made its goal, “Spiderweb makes a very particular type of RPG: Light on eye candy (very light) and other effects, but very deep, flexible, and open-ended.” The Geneforge Saga, a series of five standalone games, is the perfect example. The sci-fi/fantasy setting is dominated by Shapers, who are wizards with the godlike power of creating life, though it’s full of other factions to contend with, none of them purely good or bad.

I was pretty excited about Helskate—though after trying its Steam Next Fest demo, I’m not sure it’s really pulled its disparate parts together in the way it needs to. Not yet, anyway—it’s a pre-early access glimpse at what its devs have been cooking, so there’s still room for improvement.

I had a big soft spot for the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (THPS) line of skating games when I was a tyke—part of the draw was chaining together a sick combo, getting into a flow state, and ripping through a level like a god on wheels. A solid THPS stage guides you from one area to the next, giving you patches of playgrounds to sow together with your tricks.

Helskate is absolutely a THPS game with combat stuck to the deck—the controls are almost identical. The only spanner in the wheels is that you’re being attacked by demons. Your R1 and R2 shoulder buttons (you should probably be playing this on a controller, it’s a THPS game) are replaced by swings of a katana.

Give your Wordle an instant boost with a handy hint for the January 30 (955) puzzle, helping you find the answer without dishing out today’s winning word on a plate. Or, if you’d quite like today’s winning word on a plate, just click your way to today’s answer. However you want to win, we can help.

You’d think having a row with three green letters would mean I was well on my way to a victory, but today I felt just as confused and unsure about today’s Wordle answer as I did when I started. Every guess after failed to do much to help, and I solved this one mostly because I’d run out of other letters to try. Still, a win’s a win.

The Kickstarter campaign for Frost Giant’s fledgling RTS Stormgate met its $100,000 goal in 15 minutes. It hit $1 million in under 48 hours. Now it’s crossed the $2 million line. But Stormgate isn’t a brand-new project: Its development was fully-funded prior to the crowdfunding campaign.

I recently spoke to Frost Giant communications director Gerald Villoria about the campaign, and why the company decided to go ahead with a crowdfunding campaign for a free-to-play game that was already privately funded through its early access release this summer.

The recent deluge of layoffs at Blizzard (and Microsoft’s wider gaming division) has been utterly brutal—especially since several employees uprooted their lives to come and work at the company, with some employed there for just four months.

While there’s no way to soften that sort of blow, one crafty ex-Blizzard employee did manage a small win on the way out: Free WoW for a decade. Adam Holisky, the former core technology product lead at Blizzard, posted his last-minute manoeuvre to Twitter late last week.

Dread Delusion is one of the games I’m most excited for: a lo-fi, indie take on a Morrowind-style weird fantasy world, the medieval societies clinging to a field of asteroids slowly orbiting a small red star. That world just got a little bit weirder thanks to the addition of Dread Delusion’s first new major region since launch, the Clockwork Kingdom.

The bones of this place have been here since Dread Delusion’s early access launch: an empty island with a unique, wintery look and its own soundtrack. Developer Lovely Hellplace wised up to the antics of boundary breakers like me jumping to the island with magic, and moved the kingdom’s home island out for the final release, forcing players to get there “the right way.”

Great moments in PC gaming are bite-sized celebrations of some of our favorite gaming memories.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Developer: Traveller’s Tales
Year: 2014

I grew up watching repeats of the Batman TV show, decades old by that point. With one of the catchiest theme tunes ever recorded and a tone so over-the-top it was out of the trenches and halfway across no man’s land, it was a kid’s ideal show. Going online for the first time in the ’90s I learned the Batman fandom hated it, railing against its camp sensibility in favor of Frank Miller’s grim Dark Knight. But several years later its wholesome do-goodness was embraced by fans so they had a stick to beat Miller’s later, overly cynical comics with—a valuable lesson in how fickle fandom is.

Today’s game wasn’t much to write home about in terms of speed, but I did have a lot of fun coaxing the answer out of the yellows I’d uncovered. I had a wonderful moment where I was sure I’d found the Wordle answer—only to end up one letter off. Somehow, it felt like an epic plot twist, just for me.

Palworld has absolutely taken the real, non-pal world by storm, but no matter how big the survival crafting Pokémon brutality engine gets, I’m staying in my bunker to play crusty CRPGs from 1998 until the storm clears. Studio Pocketpair’s next game, Never Grave: The Witch and the Curse, might be a little bit more my speed though.

My first thought was “damn, that looks a lot like Hollow Knight,” and there’s an easy temptation to lambast the studio for a repeated derivative quality to its games. Like with Palworld’s Pokémon DNA, though, Never Grave’s Hollow Knightness seems mostly superficial, and the game looks set to bring some innovations of a similar scope to Palworld’s world beating “what if survival crafting games let you have little guys to do the boring stuff at base?”
