Helldivers 2 launched on Steam today and unfortunately seems to have got off to a bit of a shaky start network-wise: the reviews are currently “mixed,” and the mood music is that people are enjoying the game but deeply frustrated by connection issues. The studio admits it’s in “crisis mode” and at the time of writing has just pushed out the first hotfix.

Launch woes aside, Helldivers 2 hasn’t been especially on my radar—but a new PlayStation Access interview with the game’s deputy director Sagar Beroshi made me realise this is a game with big ideas, and none more exciting than its take on in-game dungeon masters.

People are very eager to conquer a couple hundred floors of Tartarus. At least, that’s what the sales figures for Persona 3 Reload suggest. Atlus announced earlier today that its gussied-up remake of the first modern-style Persona game has sold 1,000,000 copies across the world since its release on February 2, making it the fastest selling game in the company’s history. It’s all down to Koromaru, if you ask me.

For reference, Atlus announced back in 2021—marking Persona’s 25th anniversary—that the series had then sold a total of 15 million copies across all its versions during its lifetime. For a single entry in the series to do in one week a fifteenth of what every other game did in 25 years is, well, pretty impressive, if you ask me.

It’s pretty hard to say whether the PC market is truly back or not given ongoing global geopolitical uncertainties, but the signs are pointing towards recovery. Intel beat its revenue expectations in its latest financial report, while AMD happily shared data from Mercury Research that showed it gained some healthy slices of unit and revenue share in the x86 processor market.

As noted by Jeremy in his recent article, Intel’s Q4 2023 revenues jumped by around 10% over the same quarter in 2022. That’s a healthy number, but its forecast for the current quarter is for an 8% growth in revenue. That was enough to send investors scrambling for the exit, driving Intel’s share price down by over 11% over the last month. Pretty tough crowd that Wall Street lot.

Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 starts today, though you’d be forgiven for dismissing it outright considering how poorly received Activision‘s latest FPS behemoth was. But there’s also a free trial of the game kicking off tomorrow, and considering what the trial offers, it might just be worth paying attention to.

Running from February 8 through 12, the free trial provides access to a cross-section of the game’s multiplayer. You get to play five competitive multiplayer modes, namely team deathmatch, hardpoint, domination, kill confirmed, and team gun game (which should be called ‘team dumb name’). These modes can be played on nine maps, including Rust, Highrise, Rio, Karachi, and everyone’s favourite chaotic kill-box, Shipment.

Finding three of today’s letters early on put me in a good mood—I just needed to work out where they went. Thankfully that didn’t take up too much time and before long, I found myself staring at a nice neat row of green letters, wondering how long I’d have to wait before I could play Wordle again.

Just in case your massive backlog of games isn’t quite massive enough, Steam’s 2024 Lunar New Year Sale is here to help you bulk it up a little bit more.

You might recall that in 2022, Valve announced that it was replacing its annual Lunar New Year Sale with a Spring Sale, giving it a big annual sale for each of the four seasons. But then in 2023 it surprised us all with a Chinese New Year Sale, and now it’s 2024 and—surprise again!—the Lunar New Year event is back in business.

Brave is the company that dares slap RGB and an LCD screen onto its premium game controller and still claim to have better battery life than Sony’s DualSense, but Turtle Beach has done it with the Stealth Ultra. This gamepad looks a little like the designers at Turtle Beach sat down to trade ideas on how to challenge the Xbox Elite Series 2. But the meeting got a little out of hand, maybe some beers were involved, and this hilariously OTT unit resulted.

It’s an impressive thing straight out of the box. Ensconced in its own zipped carrier, it looks bulbous and imposing compared to the stock standard PC gamer workhorse, the Xbox controller. It’s noticeably bigger at 160mm wide (6.3 in), compared to the Xbox’s 152mm (6.02 in), and its inbuilt lithium ion battery is presumably to thank for its lightness compared to the standard Xbox controller, which requires heavier AA batteries.

It’s not often that I get to call a cyberpunk cityscape “cozy” but chill building game Dystopika describes itself as “the dark side of cozy,” if you find neon-streaked skylines to be soothing. I’ve taken this city building toy for a spin in its new demo, which you can try for yourself on Steam this week as part of the current Steam Next Fest and it is great at churning out new candidates for my desktop wallpaper.

The nearest touchstone for Dystopika is Townscaper, the lovely little building game that’s spawned a sort of micro-genre of other low-stress building games launching in the next year. Instead of water, the canvas is an ocean of tiny lights in a nighttime skyline on which you can build massive skyscrapers stretching into the atmosphere. Like the others inspired by Townscaper, Dystopika says it has “no goals, no stress, no objectives. Just your imagination.”

Valve’s monthly analysis of its Steam Hardware Survey for January was published the other day and the figures made for interesting, if not unexpected, reading. For example, Windows 11 was making small gains against Windows 10, and the number of CPU cores and amount of system RAM are all steadily increasing. I’ve been monitoring the survey since last July, particularly the distribution of graphics cards, and one thing stands out: AMD RDNA 3 cards are virtually nowhere to be seen.

AMD has claimed that it has seen an increase in sales of its Radeon products, “driven by strong demand in the channel for both our Radeon 6000 and Radeon 7000 series GPUs.” There’s no reason for any of us to doubt such a claim (it would certainly be odd for AMD to blatantly lie about this) but in the last seven Steam Hardware Surveys, only one Radeon RX 7000-series card makes an appearance, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

Get your Wordle week started on the right foot with our wide range of hints and tips. Keep on scrolling and you’ll find a helpful clue written especially for today’s game, and if you scroll or click just a little further down, you’ll find the answer to the February 5 (961) Wordle too. However well (or not) your guesses are going, we can help you win.

Today’s Wordle was one of those strangely relaxing games where I knew the answer was coming, even if I hadn’t quite found it yet. Each new line gave me just enough help to inch me that little bit closer towards the answer—one more green in the right place, one more yellow just waiting to be shuffled—but still made me do just enough work to make it fun. The perfect game, really.
