It hasn’t been a good couple weeks for Bungie. At the end of July, the Destiny 2 studio laid off 220 employees, representing roughly 17% of its total workforce; shortly after that, a report surfaced alleging that Bungie CEO Pete Parsons had spent more than $2.4 million on vintage cars over the past two years; and shortly after that it came to light that hopes of avoiding layoffs by really nailing The Final Shape expansion were completely misplaced, because the cuts were reportedly planned regardless of the expansion’s outcome.

Bungie is under pressure from Sony to get its house in order, but it seems increasingly unable to. Parsons acknowledged when the most recent round of layoffs landed that the studio was overextended on various “incubation projects” and was bleeding money as a result, but it’s unclear how it’s going to pull out of that spiral. The Final Shape is intended to be the final Destiny 2 expansion, but the nigh-inevitable Destiny 3 is still a long way out, and Marathon, presumably the studio’s next big thing, is struggling: The game recently underwent a leadership change, and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier said in a recent Friends Per Second podcast that he’s been told the current state of development is “not great.”

It was almost 2 am last night when I saw something that gave me the biggest grin: A 66-second video showcasing the hunting horn in Monster Hunter Wilds. I watched it once, then again, then turned the phone to my partner to show her. “Oh that’s sick,” she muttered half-asleep as the horn user played a melody that created an area-of-effect buff on the battlefield.

The Hunting Horn video, part of a series of videos showcasing what’s new with each weapon type in Wilds, is so short that Capcom really could’ve published it as a YouTube Short or TikTok, but I think the company bet on Monster Hunter fans being ravenous for any Wilds gameplay, and it was right. Since Capcom started publishing them on YouTube four days ago, these overview videos have racked up millions of views. If you had any doubt left that Wilds is gonna be the biggest Monster Hunter to date, I assume it’s squashed now.

I might represent about half of those views, to be fair. I keep rewatching the overview of my favorite weapon, the gunlance. Most of the video covers basic moves that’ve been mainstays for the weapon for several games now, but also some new moves that look absolutely sinister. With Wilds’ new Focus Strikes (which also has a dedicated video explainer), gunlancers can charge toward a monster, uncork the wyrmstake, and continuously drill into the beast like a carnivorous Dig Dug. I also spotted a new full burst combo that fires the lance’s shells in a horizontal arch, which should be handy for targeting out-of-reach monster parts.

The overview videos for the insect glaive and heavy bowgun are also informative. There’s Focus Skill where you plant the glaive in a monster then spin around it like Spider-Man on a flag pole, and the heavy bowgun has an “Ignition” mode that lets you fire it like a full-auto machine gun. I’m going to assume that’s new territory for the bowgun, but admittedly I’ve always slept on Monster Hunter’s ranged options.

The bad news for Intel just keeps on rollin’. This time it’s the latest figures from Mercury Research showing AMD pinching year-on-year market share from Intel in both desktop and laptop PCs. Oh, and servers, too. Ouch.

Mercury’s numbers do show an overall uptick for Intel in terms of total x86 chip market share. However, that’s a consequence of cratering sales of AMD’s SoCs, specifically the chips in gaming consoles. Mercury doesn’t break down the numbers, but Microsoft’s Xbox console sales have largely imploded of late. So, that will likely be where much of the pain is coming from.

I have good news and bad news for Grand Theft Auto fans eager to get their hands on the next game in the series: Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed in its latest quarterly financial report that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still on track for release in the fall of 2025.

The latest all-is-well update comes as part of Take-Two’s Q1 FY2025 earnings release, which includes a list of the company’s current future releases:

So that’s the good news: The fall 2025 release window, which was first revealed in May as part of Take-Two’s 2024 year-end financial report, remains intact. The bad news is that, as you may have noticed, there’s still no indication of a PC release. GTA6 is obviously going to come to PC at some point, but based on the series’ history we may have a longer wait for it. Grand Theft Auto 5, for instance, launched for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September 2013, but didn’t come our way until April 2015.

Action adventure creature collector Creatures of Ava is bound to capture the attention of any previous Palworld player. Doused in bright colours and filled with eclectic animals, it’s an enchanting world to step foot into. But, outside of its gorgeous cartoon-like visuals and whimsical music, a story of developing empathy towards a culture different from your own unfolds. And that’s where Creatures of Ava sunk its talons into me.

Protagonist Vic is a witty, compassionate character that I found myself adoring quickly. Her voiced narration and character interactions made me connect with her far easier than having to read dialogue off the screen. Although Creatures of Ava isn’t shy about having its inhabitants spill information in numerous text blocks, the most important parts are highlighted through audible conversation. Paired with the stunning visuals, I could’ve easily sat back and enjoyed each cutscene stitched together like its own TV show.

I am one of at least 15 people who subscribe to Apple Music instead of Spotify, and I’ll tell you why. Reason one: I’m a leech on my parents’ Apple One subscription, which is actually like 95% of the reason. Reason two: Apple’s Early Music playlist, a collection of pre-Baroque bangers made up of medieval and Renaissance songs, mostly with a religious bent (they were into all that back then, you see).

Does Spotify have a similar thing? I prefer not to know. Please, this is the only thing stopping me from being swallowed by FOMO come Wrapped season.
