Monster Hunter is no stranger to outlandish creature designs. Many of the monsters we’re sent to slaughter are majestic beauties, but the roster’s also got its share of freaks. Standing beside the regal Teostra and imposing Zinogre are monsters like the Khezu: a flabby, drooling, lipped lamprey with wings, whose veined, rubbery flesh gains new dimensions of upsetting vascularity with every advancement of Capcom’s graphics tech. But with its latest monster unveiling, Monster Hunter Wilds has set a new watermark for creature detestability. Behold the Rompopolo:
Revealed yesterday alongside the Oilwell Basin region it calls home, the Rompopolo is Monster Hunter’s latest bipedal brute wyvern. However, where most other brute wyverns like the Deviljho and Anjanath have fairly traditional tyrannosaurid features, Rompopolo is, well, horrible. It’s like a dinosaur-sized midpoint between a kiwi bird, a mosquito, and a thrombosed hemorrhoid.
It’s purple. It’s engorged. Lobes of distended, fleshy sacs pocked with lip-like apertures flank its head and trail down to the end of its tail, which terminates in a hellish barb. It’s got nasty little gecko feet.
Rompopolo’s design is masterfully vile, but don’t worry: The sacs aren’t just for show. As Capcom describes in a tweet from the official Monster Hunter X account, Rompopolo can “inject gas from the tip of its tail into the surrounding oilsilt for explosive results!” Great!
The reactions to Rompopolo’s reveal have been, let’s say, “enthusiastic.” For many hunters, the instinctive revulsion Rompopolo evokes is the perfect call to arms. “I must be the first to slay 1,000 Rompopolo,” user Palodromy declared on Reddit, “because it is an affront to God and I am His strongest soldier.” Another fan on X echoed the sentiment, saying “I am going to Bully this Monster, mark my words.”
For others celebrating the wretched creature and its god-awful shapes, that revulsion is a source of glee. “This guy is disgusting looking. 10/10 no notes,” says one reply on X, while another says “This mf ugly asf (great design).”
I’ll admit: I’m pretty eager to bring my hammer down on a few of Rompopolo’s poison-filled sacs—particularly after seeing the back-breaking outcome of its turf war with fellow Oilwell Basin resident Ajarakan. As upsetting as Rompopolo is to perceive, however, it’s still a design I’m glad to see. Monster Hunter: World’s designs for its new monsters, while excellent, played it fairly safe—possibly in an attempt to avoid scaring off the wider audience it was trying to attract. With Rompopolo, it seems like Monster Hunter’s designers are still more than willing to get weird in Wilds, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Unfortunately, while the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta arrives next week, I’ll have to wait until the full release in February to meet Rompopolo face to face. Somehow, I think I’ll manage.

The new No Man’s Sky expedition is a space horror outing where, instead of evading space pirates and mysteriously cute aliens, the boundaries of reality are out to get you. The Cursed, which launches today, takes place at the threshold between realities in a place called the twilight realm. It looks super pretty—much prettier than the dead planets I invariably encounter when I return to the game every six months or so.
What does this mean in practice? It means creepy stuff is everywhere but also, maybe it’s actually not. Because your exosuit is now fitted with an Anomaly Suppressor, which keeps you sane and thus presumably guarded from some of the worst aspects of unreality. This module needs to be maintained, and if you don’t take care of it all the peaceful octopi floating around in the sky will start to lash out.
Travel is restricted too: instead of warping between star systems with hyperdrive tech you’ll need to use the “ancient portal network” as you travel around the galaxy, doing the bidding of mysterious haunting voices whose motives are unclear. As far as No Man’s Sky goes, it sounds like a pleasantly guided experience.
There are rewards for completing it: a bunch of decorative posters for your base, an Anomaly Seal base part, which doesn’t do anything in normal No Man’s Sky but looks nice, an ink-stained jetpack trail and—my favourite—a bioluminescent companion.
This is the 16th No Man’s Sky expedition, and it’ll run until November 7. It follows the Aquarius update which added fishing to No Man’s Sky.

Bernie Sanders met his first catboy vtuber on a Twitch stream yesterday to help promote presidential candidate Kamala Harris, and, I gotta say, he handled it pretty well. Most people—let alone U.S. Senators—might’ve been more hesitant, but Sanders took it in stride.
Twitch streamer and virtual YouTuber Sykkuno greeted Sanders in his anime avatar moments after he joined the stream and explained why he wasn’t on camera like the others, which included host AustinShow and popular streamer Pokimane.
“Do you know what a vtuber is?” Sykkuno asked. There wasa brief moment of awkward silence before Sykkuno repeated the question: “Have you heard of a vtuber before?”
“Nope,” Bernie admitted.
“No? I’m the first one! Thank you for supporting vtubers!” Sykkuno exclaimed while AustinShow tried to move the show forward.
Sanders smiled and told him he’s “looking very good.”
The short exchange was a treat in an hour-long Q&A where Sykkuno, Pokimane, Valkyrae, and Mark Hamill asked Sanders about politics and the upcoming election. They covered topics like his support for Harris, the conflict in Gaza, and U.S. healthcare. After Sanders made his departure, the conversation continued for another two hours with more guests, including Hank Green and Mark Cuban.
But Sanders stumbling into vtuber 101 was the most popular thing clipped out of the stream and shared all over social media. It’s not every day you get to see an 83-year-old senator talk politics with a messy-haired catboy in a hoodie. And the meetup felt reflective of, if not a bit more genuine than, the Harris campaign’s recent tactics to appeal to young voters. Brat Summer may be over, but Catboy Fall is here.

“This might be the funniest moment in American political history to date,” X user therealpanzer posted with a screenshot of the guests lined up on the Discord video call.
I’m never going to get over the absurdity of seeing a still shot of human faces joined by a single vtuber. Even after their explosive popularity on Twitch and YouTube during the pandemic, vtubers haven’t shaken all the novelty off. But we’re getting there: Pink-haired vtuber Ironmouse recently became the most subscribed-to Twitch streamer ever with over 320,000 subscribers earlier this month. I’m certain Sanders won’t be the last politician we see talking live on Twitch with an anime character, and I’m here for it.

AMD might have cracked open the AM5 lid with Ryzen 9000-series processors such as the Ryzen 9 9950X, but it seems to be set on churning out more AM4 platform CPUs, too. And as far as I’m concerned, that’s good news—milk AM4 for all it’s worth, I say.
The two new chips are headed to the now-two-generations-out 5000-series. It looks like AMD might soon be launching two new Ryzen 5000-series CPUs in the form of the Ryzen 5 5600T and 5600XT, as, following momomo’s mention of the 5600T, VideoCardz noted the appearance of these CPUs on various motherboard manufacturers’ pages.
Originally and officially, a ‘T’ suffix was meant to mean ‘low-power’, but that doesn’t seem to have been the case for some time. The 5900XT, for example, has the same TDP as the 5900X, and is more powerful because it has more cores. A ‘T’ suffix just seems to designate a refreshed version of the previous non-T version. Or maybe AMD is just running out of names.
Based Asus‘ listings for these CPUs, here’s how the specs should compare to the non-refreshed versions of the 5000-series CPUs:

This doesn’t tell us much. We can see that the 5600XT might have a base clock 100 MHz higher than the 5600X, but boost clocks are more important for gaming. There is precedent for boost clocks being raised with AMD ‘T’ refreshes—the 5800XT, for instance, has a boost clock 100 MHz higher than the 5800X—and this would certainly differentiate the 5600T and 5600XT from their non-refreshed counterparts.
What would also differentiate them is price. If AMD can bring out two new 6-core 5000-series processors with slightly higher boost clocks and slap on reduced price tags, this would be a big win for prospective PC builders on a budget. Though we’re also likely to see these used by some system builders in lieu of older parts.

You can currently pick up a Ryzen 5 5600X for $128 at Amazon, and this is still a perfectly reasonable chip for gaming. It’s not one of the best gaming CPUs on the market, but it gets the job done. Now imagine if you could cut even just $10-15 off that price tag, add an extra 100 MHz on the base clock and the boost clock, and maintain a 65 W TDP to boot. Such a CPU would be a fantastic budget upgrade option for those using an older AM4 system.
All speculation, of course. We don’t even have official confirmation that these CPUs will be released, let alone what their final specifications would be. But based on previous 5000-series refreshes, such speculations aren’t unreasonable fantasies. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Wordle gives you six rows of five boxes each day, and it’s your job to work out which five-letter word is hiding by eliminating or confirming the letters it contains.
Starting with a strong word like LEASH—something containing multiple vowels, common consonants, and no repeat letters—is a good place to start. Once you hit Enter, the boxes will show you which letters you’ve got right or wrong. If a box turns ⬛️, it means that letter isn’t in the secret word at all. 🟨 means the letter is in the word, but not in that position. 🟩 means you’ve got the right letter in the right spot.
Your second go should compliment the starting word, using another “good” guess to cover any common letters you missed last time while also trying to avoid any letter you now know for a fact isn’t present in today’s answer. After that, it’s just a case of using what you’ve learned to narrow your guesses down to the right word. You have six tries in total and can only use real words (so no filling the boxes with EEEEE to see if there’s an E). Don’t forget letters can repeat too (ex: BOOKS).

Originally, Wordle was dreamed up by software engineer Josh Wardle, as a surprise for his partner who loves word games. From there it spread to his family, and finally got released to the public. The word puzzle game has since inspired tons of games like Wordle, refocusing the daily gimmick around music or math or geography. It wasn’t long before Wordle became so popular it was sold to the New York Times for seven figures. Surely it’s only a matter of time before we all solely communicate in tricolor boxes.
Netflix’s big-time gaming ambitions seem to have hit a slippery patch, as Gamefile reports that the internal studio known as Team Blue has been closed.
Team Blue was revealed, without the catchy name, in October 2022, and appeared to signify a real escalation of Netflix’s gaming ambitions. The company said in 2021 that its move into gaming would be focused primarily on mobile games, but a year later it was “seriously exploring” cloud gaming and hiring some big names for its second internal studio, including former Overwatch executive producer Chacko Sonny as studio head, former Halo Infinite creative lead Joseph Staten, and former Sony Santa Monica art director Rafael Grassetti.
Mike Verdu, then serving as vice president of gaming at Netflix, said when the studio was announced that “you don’t get people like [Sonny] coming to your organisation to build the next big thing in gaming unless there’s a sense that we’re really in it for the long haul.” Those words, unfortunately, proved to be the opposite of prophetic: The project never saw the light of day and all three executives are no longer with the company, according to the report.
A reason for the closure wasn’t provided, but it feels rather sudden. Former Blizzard and Bungie design lead Gavin Irby, who joined the studio in October 2023, shared a job listing for a senior technical designer at the studio on LinkedIn just two months ago.
But there have been some recent changes at the top: Alain Tascan, previously the executive vice president of game development at Epic, joined Netflix in July as its new president of games, while Verdu moved to a new role focusing on “transformative innovation in game creation and development,” whatever that means.
Netflix has had some notable successes with its mobile platform, including the well-regarded Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals and the Grand Theft Auto trilogy, which Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in February was “a resounding success, quickly yielding the highest rate of installs and engagement on [Netflix’s] game platform.”
Even so, while Netflix isn’t backing off on games completely, it does sound like the focus is shifting. In an October investors call, co-CEO Gregory Peters said Netflix is “excited about games based on Netflix IPs,” including Squid Game, Virgin River Christmas, and The Ultimatum, and also mentioned the upcoming release of Monument Valley 3, which will be exclusive to Netflix Games. The lofty ambitions of 2022 and “the next big thing in gaming” went entirely unmentioned.
Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.
Gamefile’s Stephen Totilo said something very similar on X, writing that the closure of Team Blue is “definitely a sign of new leaders pulling back from one big bet,” but adding that Netflix has other studios still operating and company executives “seem hyped on growth targets and show tie-in games.”
Netflix confirmed with PC Gamer that the Gamefile report is accurate but declined to comment further.

Wordle help: 3 tips for beating Wordle every day
Looking to extend your Wordle winning streak? Perhaps you’ve just started playing the popular daily puzzle game and are looking for some pointers. Whatever the reason you’re here, these quick tips can help push you in the right direction:
Start with a word that has a mix of common vowels and consonants.
The answer might repeat the same letter.
Try not to use guesses that include letters you’ve already eliminated.
There’s no racing against the clock with Wordle so you don’t need to rush for the answer. Treating the game like a casual newspaper crossword can be a good tactic; that way, you can come back to it later if you’re coming up blank. Stepping away for a while might mean the difference between a win and a line of grey squares.

Wordle gives you six rows of five boxes each day, and it’s up to you to work out which five-letter word is hiding among them to win the popular daily puzzle.
It’s usually a good plan to start with a strong word like ALERT—or any other word with a good mix of common consonants and multiple vowels—and you should be off to a flying start, with a little luck anyway. You should also avoid starting words with repeating letters, so you don’t waste the chance to confirm or eliminate an extra letter. If a box turns ⬛️, it means that letter isn’t in the secret word at all. 🟨 means the letter is in the word, but not in that position. 🟩 means you’ve got the right letter in the right spot.

Zekvir’s Lair is a delve in World of Warcraft: The War Within with one of the most difficult pieces of solo content since the game’s Mage Tower challenges.
The ultimate boss of the game’s new short, soloable-dungeons, or Delves, Zekvir has a small mountain of health (195 million at the top difficulty) and uses mechanics that can be exceptionally challenging if you’re not ready for them. You can tackle him alone or with friends, on “?” difficulty (yes, that’s just a question mark) or the tougher “??” challenge level. Killing him on “??” solo earns you the Void Delver’s Dirigible mount appearance, one of the most prestigious in the game at the moment.
If you haven’t gone in search of him, you may have seen him in other Delves: He will rarely spawn and kill you.
Here’s how to beat him and earn your very own smoky purple void-y Hindenberg mount.
Quick steps for unlocking and beating Zekvir’s Lair
(Image credit: Heather N. / Blizzard)
Beat any Delve on level 8 or higher (with revives remaining) for ? difficulty
Beat any Delve on level 10 (with revives remaining) for ?? difficulty
Travel to western side of City of Threads at coordinates 9.8, 33.8
Assign Brann to heal and use raid buffs
Avoid attacks, kill Web Terrors, and interrupt Enfeebling Spittle and Regenerating Carapace
In order to fight Zekvir on basic ? difficulty, you must first beat any existing Delve dungeon on level 8 or higher with revives remaining, either solo or in a group. This must only be done once across your account, thanks to the expansion’s new Warband features, so defeating it on one character unlocks it for all others. To fight Zekvir on the much-more challenging ?? difficulty, you must successfully complete a level 10 with revives left.
Zekvir’s Lair is located inside the big building on the far western side of the City of Threads in the Azj-Kahet underground spider zone, at coordinates 9.8, 33.8. You’ll zone in the same way you tackle any other delve, by running into the shrouded doorway and picking the difficulty you’d like to defeat.
Once you’ve entered, you’ll use the typical Explorers’ League Supplies item to assign the specialization and curios you want your companion Brann Bronzebeard to use in the delve. In most cases, you’re going to want Brann to heal, though you may want to tweak the curio selection based on your class and specialization.
The more beefy your Brann is, the better; we recommend tackling ? with a level 20 Brann and ?? with a level 30 Brann as a bare minimum. The more powerful your character is, the less strong Brann needs to be, though it helps. This fight is defeatable at lower item levels if you’re absolutely perfect in how you execute the mechanics. It’ll just take a lot longer and rely more on the utility your particular class brings to the table.
How to beat Zekvir’s Lair
(Image credit: Heather N. / Blizzard)
Zekvir is a solo boss, and once you pass through the lobby where you kit out Brann, you’ll see him standing in a large room alone.
He has the following challenging mechanics:
Angler’s Web: A line on the ground that will hook you. It’ll kill you if you stand in it
Call Web Terror: This creates a web at the edge of the room that’ll turn into a spider if it’s not killed in 15 seconds. The spider itself can be crowd controlled, so if you have Hibernate, Trap, Fear, Sheep or the like, you can use it on this creature for the full duration. Otherwise you’ll want to kill any spiders that spawn quickly, as they do a Web Blast that will stun you and likely get you killed
Claw Smash: A frontal cone. This is a one-shot, so get out of it
Enfeebling Spittle: This is a damage over time spell cast by Zekvir that will both kill and slow you. It must be interrupted, which poses more of a challenge to player classes that can’t immune the cast, dispel its effect or interrupt as frequently
Horrendous Roar: This is a quick-casting AOE fear circle that you must move out of
Regenerating Carapce (?? only): A heal that’ll add back 10% (later, 25%) of Zekvir’s health if not interrupted
Unending Spines (?? only): Creates void areas in the room that you must a-void
The fight requires nearly constant movement and close attention to your own defensive abilities, as even his melee attacks hit plenty hard. Pet classes may find that it’s easier to tank Zekvir themselves, turning off the taunt abilities on their pets, than to have pets tank him, as he often one-shots them.
Use all typical raid buffs, including flasks, Hearty food (which lasts through death), damage potions, temporary weapon buffs such as oils, and healing potions. Note that Cavedweller’s Delight and Algari Healing potions do not share a cooldown, so bring both.
Be sure to loot the boss (not just the chests) to get all your rewards!
The rewards for beating Zekvir’s Lair
(Image credit: Heather N. / Blizzard)
If you fail, you still get an achievement: Heavy-Handed, for getting killed by Zekvir.
For defeating Zekvir in any size of group on any difficulty in Season 1, you’ll receive the Nemesis achievement and Zekvir’s Raptorial Spine, a somewhat underwhelming red-and-brown spiky back cosmetic item. The Nemesis achievement is required to complete Glory of the Delver, a meta-achievement that awards the Ivory Goliathus peach and silver horned-beetle-style bug mount.
Killing him also completes the quest Zekvir, Hand of the Harbinger, which awards the Toxic Victory toy. The quest is the final in a short series from Brann in Dornogal that starts with To Delves! The Toxic Victory toy gives your shoulder armor a very subtle swirl-of-dust appearance.
And finally, you’ll receive the Relicblood of Zekvir, a Brann curio. (You’ll also get this, often at 4/4 quality, upon killing ?? difficulty.) This curio when equipped randomly attaches a bloodbeast to Brann, which throws pieces of itself near you as you fight in Delves. Walking through these pieces increases your damage and healing and reduces your max health.
Defeating Zekvir on ?? difficulty in a group or solo will award you the achievement Hunting the Hunter and the Ascension Breaker title.
Defeating him alone on ?? difficulty in Season 1 gives you the Let Me Solo Him achievement and the Delver’s Dirigible Schematic: Void, which allows you to select the Void appearance for your Delver’s Dirigible mount.
The Delver’s Dirigible is awarded by completing Brann’s quest Bountiful Delves in Dornogal, which most people will have completed by the time they defeat Zekvir. You can swap your Dirigible to the Void appearance at the Rostrum of Transformation in Dornogal, which looks like the Rostrum you used to cosmetically change your dragonriding mounts in the Dragonflight expansion.
The animations of the Dirigible and this new, purple-smoke appearance are pretty nifty; its landing gear retract on takeoff, and its /mountspecial includes a fancy loop-de-loop. Enjoy your newly evil blimp!
