I never watched the Game of Thrones series on HBO because, frankly, I get my fill of political awfulness from the real world in which I live. But even without being immersed in the scene, I was surprised how quickly everyone stopped talking about it: It was like the last season rolled and everyone immediately decided to pretend the whole thing had never happened.
There’s something of a comeback happening on the videogame front, though. The action RPG Game of Thrones: Kingsroad launched on Steam in March, and tonight at the Summer Game Fest we got our first look at Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a new RTS being developed by PlaySide Studios.
As you might expect from the title and the fact that it’s an RTS, players will take command of the armies of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King, and go to war for control of the Iron Throne in either a singleplayer campaign or “free-for-all multiplayer.”
From the press blast:
Engaging in epic real-time strategy battles, forging strategic alliances, and weaving deceit against rival forces will be key. Each faction offers deeply asymmetric strategies, with signature heroes, armies, and mechanics forged from the brutal legacy of Westeros. Players can deploy infantry, cavalry, siege engines, giants, and dragons to break enemy lines as they work to outplay and outmaneuver rivals with inspiring hero abilities and the ruthless instincts of a true war commander.
And a handful of screens:

It’ll be very interesting to see how War for Westeros fares when it arrives. It may be a very good RTS and you can never have too many of those, but I wonder how much the Game of Thrones license really brings to the table, and whether it will attract many gamers who wouldn’t otherwise be interested in a “classic” fantasy RTS in the first place. Do we really still care that much about Jon Snow and the gang?

We’ll find out next year: Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is currently slated to launch sometime in 2026 and available to wishlist now on Steam.

It’s been a rough week for Elden Ring Nightreign. Not from a player count perspective: it’s absolutely flying off the shelves with over 3.5 million copies sold in just five days. But when it comes to performance, Nightreign has not held up to expectations.
Aside from solo runs being nightmarish, one of the most frustrating parts of Nightreign has been its matchmaking. Solo queuing isn’t too bad, especially if you just select all the bosses and go from there, but queuing in a duo makes it almost impossible to find a player. I waited an hour the other night for just one more player to join our expedition. It’s not just me: Ted Litchfield also had the same issue waiting two hours for matchmaking to work.
But it’s not like FromSoftware is just ignoring all of this. In a bid to try and help ease the issues, the devs suggested a couple of fixes for players to try and then promised that they were working on it. Well, that fix is currently underway, and some players still aren’t happy.
Last night FromSoftware announced that Nightreign servers will be closing for maintenance: “Servers will undergo maintenance on June 6, 2025, to improve expedition matchmaking with an active Remembrance.” The only problem is that not everyone got the message.
“They turned off the server while I was one hit away from defeating Libra,” Affectionate_Elk7258 says. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.” That’s rough buddy.
The comments of this post are full of players patting each other on the back solemnly because they too got screwed over by the maintenance. “I was finally about to beat Augur with the locust buff, I feel your pain,” one player says. While others just reflect on how most of their teammates got randomly Thanos-snapped into oblivion leaving them alone in Nightreign to die.
But it’s not all bad news. One player managed to squeeze in a run just before the servers went down. “I just solo’d the final Nightlord as Executor seconds before the servers shut down, what a hell of a fight,” voidsenight says. “The stress from getting kicked back to the main menu was greater than me losing the fight if I’m totally honest. Idk if in singleplayer you get kicked from your session or not but I did not wanna risk it lol.”
Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.
While FromSoft did make an announcement before switching the servers off there’s nothing on the Steam page about this and, honestly, I would’ve been none the wiser if it hadn’t been for all the players grieving over lost progress.
Maintenance was only meant to last a couple of hours, so Nightreign’s servers should all be up and running by now. But just remember to keep one eye out for maintenance updates or server closures, because no one should have to go through the pain of getting a solid victory ripped from their hands.

The banners in Genshin Impact are constantly changing, so it’s a good idea to keep track of what the current banners and next banners are, to prepare for a sudden hit to your precious Primogem reserves.
Limited-time rotating banners are called ‘Event Wishes’ in Genshin, and they usually run for three weeks. An Event Wish Banner is never gone for long though, as another one—with a different set of characters—will soon take its place. Your Primogems are never safe!
You use the Intertwined Fate currency to pull (referred to as ‘Wishing’ in-game) on these Event Wish Banners. If you see you’re using something called Acquaint Fate, then you’re wishing on Genshin’s permanent banner or Beginner’s Banner instead. It’s a good idea to always convert your Primogems into Intertwined Fate to save up for Event Wish Banners, as it’s much harder to get characters only available for a limited-time than it is to get characters in the permanent banner. But you do you! As somebody who only pulled for Xilonen because I wanted to roller skate across Teyvat, I’m not one to judge.

Skirk and Dahlia are on the next banners in Genshin Impact. This was confirmed through Skirk’s drip marketing and Dahlia’s drip marketing on Genshin’s official social media channels—an ever-reliable way to peek at who’s coming next. They’ll both make their debut in version 5.7.
As for reruns, according to the reliable leak source homdgcat.wiki, Emilie is running alongside Skirk in Phase 1 of version 5.7, and Mavuika and Shenhe are rerunning in Phase 2.
It’s been 18 months since Skirk popped up to throw Childe into a portal at the end of Fontaine’s story, and four years since Dahlia was first mentioned in-game, so it’s nice to see miHoYo didn’t forget about them after all. I wish the same could be said about Genshin’s Switch port and anime adaptation.

Raiden Shogun and Kinich are the current banners in Genshin Impact, both of which end on Tuesday, June 17. Kinich is a returning five-star dendro claymore-user on his Seeker of Flame-Wrought Secrets Banner, and Raiden Shogun, a returning five-star electro polearm-user on her Reign of Serenity Banner.
The boosted four-star characters on Kinich and Raiden’s current banners are:
Thoma (Pyro, polearm-user)
Kujou Sara (Electro, bow-user)
Lynette (Anemo, sword-user)
If your Primogems are side-eyeing you over a Raiden rerun, then prepare for a few more unwelcome glances, because an Inazuman-themed Chronicled Wish Banner is also running until Tuesday, June 17.
All of the five-star characters on the current Chronicled Wish Banner are:
Arataki Itto (Geo, claymore-user)
Kamisato Ayaka (Cryo, sword-user)
Kamisato Ayato (Hydro, sword-user)
Chiori (Geo, sword-user)
Kaedehara Kazuha (Anemo, sword-user)
Sangonomiya Kokomi (Hydro, catalyst-user)
Yae Miko (Electro, catalyst-user)
Yoimiya (Pyro, bow-user)
All of the five-star weapons on the current Chronicled Wish Banner are:
Freedom-Sworn (sword)
Haran Geppaku Futsu (sword)
Mistsplitter Reforged (sword)
Uraku Misugiri (sword)
Redhorn Stonethresher (claymore)
Everlasting Moonglow (catalyst)
Kagura’s Verity (catalyst)
Thundering Pulse (bow)
Remember that your pity doesn’t carry over between Chronicled Wish Banners! It will reset back to zero when this Inazuman one ends.

Although there’s no official confirmation yet, as Skirk is debuting in version 5.7, it’s all but confirmed that she’ll be getting a new signature sword to run alongside her in the next weapon banner.
So if the character leaks mentioned above turn out to be accurate, here’s what the next weapon banner schedule will look like in version 5.7 of Genshin Impact:
New five-star sword in Phase 1 – Skirk’s signature sword
Lumidouce Elegy in Phase 1 – Emilie’s signature polearm
A Thousand Blazing Suns in Phase 2 – Mavuika’s signature claymore
Calamity Queller in Phase 2 – Shenhe’s signature polearm

The current weapon banner (Epitome Invocation) runs until Tuesday, June 17, and the five-star weapons on the current weapon banner in Genshin Impact are Fang of the Mountain King (claymore), and Engulfing Lightning (polearm). These are Kinich and Raiden’s signature five-star weapons, respectively.

The Dune: Awakening early access period for owners of the deluxe and ultimate editions of the game is now live, and despite Funcom’s confidence that there would be no server problems, there are server problems. The good news is, it seems pretty minor and there’s a quick fix.
If you fire up the game and can’t find any servers, “fret not,” as Funcom put it on the Dune: Awakening Discord. First, you are not alone: PC Gamer’s Chris Livingston and Andrea Shearon ran into the same issue when they tried to get into the game today. Second, it doesn’t seem to be a big deal: One of two easily-addressed issues should fix it:
Steam didn’t update the D1 patch in time. If you can’t see servers then restarting your client will probably show a patch.
If you played the Beta the client might default to a beta region. Click the change region button then select the appropriate region
Chris and Andrea both reported that following these steps fixed things up for them, so with any luck at all it’ll clear the trouble up for you too.
If the servers are showing up but you’re having occasional crashes, you’ll want to—as is PC gaming tradition, so you should do this anyway—look to your video drivers. Nvidia recently released a GeForce hotfix display driver that, among other things, will address crash issues in Dune: Awakening.
Funcom has also posted a list of known issues in the Steam forums, covering a range of smaller, less game-breaking issues: Dodgy performance, visual glitches, bugs, that sort of thing. Funcom said the listed problems will be hammered out in upcoming patches.

Until 2020, Diamond Comic Distributors held a near-monopoly on getting comic books to retailers in the US. Publishers like Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, Viz, Boom, and Udon all sold their comics exclusively through Diamond, though hearing retailers grumble about them—often claiming books arrived damaged, late, or not at all, especially in small-town shops—was common.
When Diamond announced it would cease shipments during the Covid-19 pandemic in March of 2020, DC took it as an opportunity to jump ship, switching to Lunar Distribution and UCS Comic Distributors for its monthly releases and Penguin Random House for book-sized releases. One by one other publishers followed, including Marvel, until Diamond declared bankruptcy in January of 2025.
Udon was one of the last publishers to remain with Diamond (alongside Dynamite, which would rather like to retrieve half a million dollars it claims Diamond owes), but now Udon has declared it’s found an alternative as well. Udon has halted all shipments to Diamond in favor of Lunar Distribution, with its Manga Classics imprint now being distributed by Simon & Schuster.
“With the current state of uncertainty and lack of communication from the new owners to both retailers as well as many publishers, we have to do what is best to serve our customers,” Udon chief of operations Erik Ko said. “We realize this is a deep inconvenience for many retailers, but we’re trying to do our best to serve our partners and fans, while minimizing risk and moving forward in an uncertain time.”
This has affected the first issue of Udon’s new series Mega Man Timelines, which has been pushed back a month to a June 25 release. Udon’s future comics, manga, and art books will be distributed though Lunar, which presumably includes any more of the Capcom-licensed books it’s famous for—like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and Final Fight—as well as its books based on games like Elden Ring and Persona.

As was foretold, Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 are now live, and in case there was any doubt, yes, it remains a massively popular game—at this moment, it’s the top-selling game on Steam, and amongst the top-ten most played, too.
While the release date was known, having been announced in April (although there was apparently a bit of a mixup there—the Nintendo Switch 2 edition trailer that initially nailed down the date pegs it at June 5, but somewhere along the line it became June 4), but the actual launch was a very quiet affair. There’s not even a notification on Steam—in fact, right now the page still lists chapters 3 and 4 as “coming soon.” But there’s no mistaking the enthusiasm of fans in the Deltarune subreddit.
And yes, the Steam charts: Deltarune currently holds three spots in Steam’s top-ten best-selling list, an impressive accomplishment by any measure.
Well, it’s been a long time coming. The first chapter of Deltarune debuted in 2018, and the second in 2021, and both were free. Creator Toby Fox said the subsequent chapters 3, 4, and 5 would not be free, however, but apparently Fox was in no great hurry to take anyone’s money because they then proceeded to horse around for four years, occasionally reassuring the world at large that progress was being made but never actually delivering on that progress—until now.
Fox alluded to that long wait in a series of cryptic posts on Bluesky ahead of today’s big update.
HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN. DAYS THAT FELT LIKE YEARS. YEARS THAT FELT LIKE DAYS. AND YET, NO MATTER HOW MUCH TIME PASSES, IT STILL TREMBLES. OUR BEAUTIFUL CONNECTION. I CAN FEEL IT QUICKENING NOW. HOW LUCKY WE ARE TO NEED EACH OTHER IN THIS WAY. SO THEN. WILL YOU PARTAKE ONCE MORE?”
So with chapters 3 and 4 now out the door, Deltarune now goes for $25/£21/|€24 on Steam—but you can still get the first two chapters for free, now in the form of the Deltarune demo.

Back in 2020, Phasmophobia took the formula of reality shows like Ghost Adventures, where frat boys explore a haunted location saying “woah” at every sound, and turned it into early access gold. It was our co-op game of the year, won best debut at The Game Awards, and has gone on to sell 23 million copies. Now it’s being made into a movie.
The Phasmophobia movie will be produced by two studios with experience in horror and videogame adaptations: Blumhouse (M3GAN, Five Nights at Freddy’s) and Atomic Monster (The Conjuring, Mortal Kombat). While I’m sure they could make a movie about some dopes investigating haunted houses and getting strangled by ghosts without paying for the rights to Phasmophobia, it’s good name recognition sure to appeal to anyone who has fond memories of waving crucifixes and thermometers around a child’s bedroom in the dark. Fun times.
“We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago,” said Daniel Knight, lead developer of Phasmophobia, “and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.”
Phasmophobia is still in early access with a major update called Chronicle due on June 24. It’s adding a sound recorder, expanding the media section of the journal with extra things to capture for a perfect investigation, and more.

The pre-release saga of MindsEye, the debut game from former Rockstar Games stalwart Leslie Benzies and his Build a Rocket Boy studio, has taken another strange twist. As noticed today by Eurogamer, Build a Rocket Boy’s chief financial officer and chief legal officer have both left the company, just a week ahead of MindsEye’s release.
Former chief legal officer Riley Graebner, who joined Build a Rocket Boy in 2022 and also served as chief operating officer until April 2024, announced his departure from the studio in a message posted to LinkedIn.
“After three and a half years my time at BARB has come to a close,” Graebner wrote. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. During that time we more than doubled the size of the company to over 450 employees. We launched multiple products worldwide. We built the legal team and legal ops infrastructure from the ground up, working to systemize and automate.
“I’m beyond excited for what’s next—but currently operating in stealth mode for a while longer. Stay tuned.”
CFO Paul Bland didn’t make any sort of public declaration about leaving BARB, but updated his LinkedIn profile to indicate that he’d parted ways with the company in June. Somewhat oddly, he seems to have subsequently changed his LinkedIn page: The Paul Bland page on the site (which I successfully visited earlier today) is gone, but the account itself remains available, at a different URL, under the name Paul B. I have no idea what to make of that, but it’s weird.
The whole thing is weird, really. Executives come and go, it’s true, but losing two C-suiters, effectively at the same time, and literally a week before the launch of the big thing you’ve been working on for years—well, it’s not a very good look, is it?
There’s no indication that anything untoward is going on behind the scenes, but even so their departures have caused an understandable ripple amongst some of the MindsEye community. As one person put it in the MindsEye Discord, “Two major players inside the company just resigned. That’s concerning!” I’m inclined to agree.
Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.
Similar sentiments can be seen on the MindsEye subreddit, where people are already somewhat less than enthusiastic about the game due primarily to a relative dearth of information about it. Back when the metaverse was still a thing, MindsEye was billed as an experience taking place within the Everywhere platform, which has been kicking around—equally ill-explained—since 2016. But I know even less about Everywhere than I do about MindsEye at this point, and it seems to have fallen off the radar: The Everywhere website, for instance, now redirects to a MindsEye site—which is just a trailer and purchase links.
“They’ve done such an incredibly poor job explaining this game I still have no clue what it even is,” redditor Greatnes wrote. “It’s just buzzwords and features with nothing linking them or explaining them. I’ve never had this issue with a game before with not even knowing what it is. Game is out in 13 days and they don’t seem interested in actually showing it off beyond carefully scripted gameplay trailers that don’t explain anything.”
(MindsEye is, for the record, “a narrative driven, single-player action-adventure thriller” with an estimated 15-hour campaign—it looks a bit like GTA, but don’t expect anything on that scale.)
The departures of Build a Rocket Boy’s CFO and CLO come less than a week after the company’s co-CEO Mark Gerhard caused a stir by claiming publicly that the negative reactions to MindsEye were part of a “concerted effort to trash the game and the studio” ahead of its release, being financed by an unnamed entity. That was not great either, and also very weird.
MindsEye is set to launch on June 10. I’ve reached out to Build a Rocket Boy for comment and will update if I receive a reply.

If you know how to beat Maris, Fathom of Night, the Augur expedition is remarkably easy—a bit of a boring slog, actually. But if you bring in the wrong team or don’t know how to stop its wipe mechanic, then it’ll be one of the toughest in Elden Ring Nightreign.
You have to beat a total of four Nightreign bosses before you can unlock the hidden final boss, so I’d recommend making Augur a top priority since they’re one of the easiest once you understand their tricks. Below, I’ll go over everything you need to know to put the sea beast in its place.
Elden Ring Nightreign Augur tips
Like other Nightlords, your work starts right away as you enter the expedition, where you should visit the best rune farming routes and hunt for legendary weapons. Here’s how to best prepare for Maris throughout the Augur expedition:
Get a lightning weapon or spells
Inspired by sea creatures, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that Maris is weak to lightning damage. Any attacks of this affinity deal bonus damage, so what’s not to love about that? Unlike some of the other bosses, Gaping Jaw Adel in particular, there’s no special interaction when using Maris’ weakness, but the quicker the fight is over, the easier it is on your supply of healing items. You can also get a starting armament that deals lightning using the right relic, so check if you have one.
Ranged weapons are a must
Maris flies around the arena pretty much constantly, making them an absolute pain in the ass to fight as a melee character. I’ve tried it, and although I was successful, it took way longer than when I used ranged weapons. Because of this, even a non-lightning bow is better than a lightning sword in this fight.
This is where the best Nightreign Ironeye build and best Recluse build really shine. Specialising in ranged damage, these two are perfect for dishing out damage no matter where Maris is. If you’re playing a traditionally melee character like Wylder or Raider, don’t forget that you can use great bows since these scale on your strength stat. Likewise, Revenant and Duchess can also use magic, letting them deal damage at range too, and Executor can use a bow as well with his S-tier dex.
Get sleep resistance and magic damage negation
Your biggest challenge in wrapping up the Augur expedition will be Maris’ annoying sleep damage. While its sleep aura and teardrop attacks will likely wipe you out in one hit, having a higher sleep resistance is still invaluable. Your best bet for finding this is the “all resistances up” passive from defeating a Night boss, or the Clarifying Horn Charm talisman. Likewise, any magic damage negation you find also comes in handy.
Level up and get flask upgrades
While the Augur expedition is pretty simple once you’ve got everything you need, I still recommend being at least level 10 if not 12 before facing Maris, mainly to increase your damage potential from higher scaling stats. Again, the quicker the fight, the less you’re chasing Maris around and dragging the things out. Earn as many runes as you can and take out expedition bosses along the way for passive upgrades. You should also pick up as many flask charges as you can by visiting churches.

Similar to fighting Libra in Equilibrious Beast, your team composition is one of the most important steps to get right, largely because Maris rarely stops flying around. So, here’s who I recommend:
Ironeye: He’s the premier ranged character, letting you actually hit Maris more than once per calendar year. Not only that, but his ultimate is great for interrupting Maris’ most troublesome attack when they create a sleep aura. He can also mark enemies so they take increased damage from the entire team.
Duchess: Her Restage skill not only repeats recent damage against targets (including the affinity boost from using lightning against Maris), but can also reapply status ailments. Plus, Duchess can easily use staves for ranged damage.
Recluse: Alongside Ironeye, she’s the next best ranged damage dealer, with some very potent spells. Her ultimate also gives your team healing and FP restoration, which is a lifesaver in such a drawn-out fight.
While I’d recommend these characters over anyone else, you could also use Wylder (or even Raider) with a great bow since they scale on strength. Wylder’s grappling hook is handy for mobility, while his ultimate can interrupt Maris’ sleep attack, much like Ironeye.
Now it’s time to actually bring the pain to Maris, which largely involves peppering them with arrows, avoiding a few attacks, and countering one move in particular:
Watch out for these attacks
Maris is generally quite a passive boss, flying around out of reach while summoning allies to wear you down. But there’s one attack, the sleep aura, that you’ll need to know how to stop before it’s too late. If you’re failing the Augur expedition, it’s probably because of that. It’s also worth noting that Maris doesn’t really have a second phase; they just create more jellyfish and tentacles.
Jellyfish: Particularly at the start of the fight, Maris summons hordes of jellyfish that swarm towards you. Get too close and they’ll blow up, dealing a fair amount of damage, especially if you get caught between multiple. They’re slow, so they’re easy enough to run away from and kite around while you focus on Maris, though you can also kill them if you need to.
Spin charge: Occasionally, Maris will actually attack you itself, diving to the ground and spinning. The attack itself is quite easy to dodge and avoid, though be careful not to run into a jellyfish (or a tentacle) in the process.
Tentacle: Later in the fight, Maris begins to summon tentacles across the arena. Like the jellyfish, these are more obstacles than attacks, though they do a surprising amount of damage. You’re best off staying away from them altogether, and only kill them if they get in your way.
Wave: Maris can create large waves of water that cover a fair distance. To avoid them, you can either block or dodge towards them.
Nap time: At key points, Maris will lie down and start channelling a sleep aura that builds this annoying and dangerous ailment. To avoid getting put to sleep (and taking damage as you are), you need to stagger Maris using ultimate abilities or by applying enough lightning damage, though the former is more reliable.
Teardrop bombs: Once you’ve got Maris below 50% health, it’ll start creating bombs that slowly fall to the ground. These deal massive damage and cause sleep buildup in a sizable radius. You have two options to deal with these: either destroy them before they hit the ground or run far away. These aren’t too hard to destroy using ranged attacks, but you’ll want to make a quick team decision, as it’s too much for just one player to handle—unless you’re Ironeye.
Interrupt Maris’ sleep aura
I know I’ve already said it, but it’s worth repeating: You need to counter Maris’ AoE sleep attack using ultimate attacks, or you’ll either die outright from the blast or inevitably die shortly after from a follow-up hit. Like fighting Libra, it’s the most likely reason you’ll fail, so it’s worth saving your ultimates until the time is right, especially Ironeye’s Single Shot to quickly prevent it at range.
Run and kite constantly
Since Maris turns the entire arena into a minefield thanks to its jellyfish and tentacle traps, you need to stay on the move almost constantly. Thankfully, you can still move while shooting with bows and even while casting spells. Alongside the obvious range advantage against this flying foe, mobility is important.
