Respawn has released a new update for Apex Legends. The update reinstates Bangalore’s legendary MIL-SPEC skin, as well as the Sentinel sniper rifle and Rampage LMG.

The MIL-SPEC Bangalore skin was removed from Apex Legends as equipping it to Bangalore and then selecting to play as the character would cause your game to crash on the legend select screen. The glitch would cause your squadmates’ games to crash too.

A small update to @PlayApex just went live to fix the following:
👕 A crash related to the MIL-SPEC skin
🔋 An issue with charging weapons
🔫 Re-enabling the MIL-SPEC skin, Rampage, and Sentinel in-game

— Respawn (@Respawn) January 13, 2022

Respawn writes that this new update should fix that issue–you can safely equip the skin again if you have it, and now buy it from the in-game store during the limited-time Dark Depths event if you’ve yet to unlock it.

Both the Sentinel and Rampage had been removed from Apex Legends after a discovered exploit was allowing players to charge both weapons indefinitely. This new update fixes that issue, so you shouldn’t be running into players with supercharged Sentinels and Rampages anymore.

The update also implements a nerf for the Rampage. Bullet damage has been decreased from 28 to 26, and thermite consumption per shot has been increased while the LMG is in its charged state. So not only is the gun weaker but it won’t stay charged for as long as it once did the moment you pull the trigger.

You may notice the Rampage feels a bit different. We decreased the damage per bullet down from 28 -> 26 and increased the thermite consumption per shot in its charged state. Give it a try and let us know what ya think. As always, we appreciate your patience, legends.

— Respawn (@Respawn) January 13, 2022

Apex Legends is currently in the midst of its Dark Depths event, which adds the new Habitat map to Arenas, 40 aquatic-themed cosmetic items to the in-game store, and a free three-week reward track. The event will continue until February 1–if the Season 11 battle pass is any indication, that’s days before the end of the season and the start of Season 12.

Recent comments made about the state of the PvP experience in The Elder Scrolls Online on the personal stream of the game’s creative director have led to an official statement from developer Zenimax Online outlining steps that are being taken to improve the situation.

The drama started a few days ago during ESO creative director Rich Lambert’s personal Twitch stream. As detailed by Massively Overpowered, Lambert regularly streams off-the-clock on his personal account, and his wife, Terri Lambert (who is not a Zenimax Online employee), also frequently makes appearances. All proceeds from the Lamberts’ streams go towards various charities.

During a discussion about accessibility, one player asked a question about “PvP accessibility,” in reference to ongoing issues with ESO’s PvP modes. Clearly those two topics are not the same, which caused Terri Lambert, who was running the stream at that given moment, to make crying gestures, say “nice try,” and state she has “no sympathy for PvP” because she knows the developers are working on fixing various PvP-related problems.

It seems Rich Lambert knew the situation might get him in hot water, as he can be seen in the background (with a parrot on his shoulder) immediately hanging his head once Terri begins speaking on the subject. It didn’t take long for angry fans to make posts on the game’s official forums and on Reddit about the stream, using the clip and taking it out of context to throw hate at both the Lamberts and Zenimax Online.

Lag and technical issues have long plagued ESO’s PvP, with Lambert back in 2020 explaining that the fact players can cast an almost unlimited amount of continuous area-of-effect abilities in a small area overwhelms the game’s servers. While the developers have tried various methods to fix the problem over the years, the problem still persists, which goes at least part of the way towards explaining the frustration some players are having with the comments made on stream.

Now, an official statement from game director Matt Firor is outlining concrete steps the team is taking to improve PvP. Though the statement makes no direct mention of the stream controversy, Firor admits that it is “long past time to give everyone an update” on the state of PvP improvements and states the team is going to rewrite some of the foundational server code to increase server performance.

“We’ve been planning this for the last quarter and we’re starting work on it right now,” Firor states. “But, as you can imagine, changing the fundamentals of a huge live game such as ESO is a delicate and multi-stepped process, so expect this to take up much of 2022.”

Firor goes on to state that no new PvP features will be implemented until the extensive work of restructuring and then re-testing the game servers is completely done. The developers will continue to work on bug fixes and consider additional ways to keep PvP exciting, like weekend events or adding special rulesets.

“We completely understand the frustration many of you are feeling, especially with lack of information about our PvP plans,” Firor writes. “This was a huge decision to make and we needed to make sure we had exhausted all other possibilities before announcing this.”

ESO is gearing up to reveal its next year-long adventure on January 27, one that looks to take players across the sea for a new adventure.

PUBG: Battlegrounds, also known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Battlegrounds, is officially free-to-play. Developer Krafton launched the previously announced free-to-play update on January 12, 2022 for all supported platforms. This drastic change skyrocketed its Steam player count to about double its former average weekly peak in the past 48 hours.

According to SteamDB, the average peak used to be about 300,000. As of yesterday, the number surpassed 600,000 players twice as a daily peak during prime playtime hours. PUBG is currently the third most popular game on Steam in terms of player count, just below Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.

Official stats from the Steam website currently list the PUBG player count around 418,090, though the peak player count for today already hit 625,564. These numbers shoot way above the fourth-place game, Apex Legends, and rival the numbers for the second-place game, Dota 2.

PUBG isn’t the first competitive multiplayer to switch from a paid to free-to-play model. Rocket League made the switch last year and received similar results, including more viewership for its esports league. Of course, the game isn’t completely free, as you can choose to pay for Battlegrounds Plus. Still, the existence of a free membership tier has been enough to influence numbers.

Those interested in playing PUBG for free can download it for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.

A new 13-minute gameplay video for Pokemon Legends: Arceus has been released by Nintendo, showing off a detailed look at the Hisui region and just how this title shakes up the formula of the series.

One of the biggest changes in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is the world around you, as the ancient Sinnoh region is a wild and untamed frontier that’s full of hostile and aggressive Pokemon. While you won’t have to worry about a goofy Bidoof picking a fight, other Pokemon such as Tangrowth and Walrein won’t tolerate your presence and will launch an attack if they spot you. Blacking out means that you’ll have to restart your journey from a checkpoint, but you’ll do so with fewer items in your inventory.

Another big departure for the series is the actual art of catching Pokemon. While most games had you instantly jump into battle and weaken a wild Pokemon before you throw a Poke Ball at it, Pokemon Legends: Arceus will give you the chance to sneak up and catch a Pokemon. If your target becomes aware of your presence, you’ll need to battle it and weaken it using either Agile or Strong style moves. Agile moves trade power for speed, while Strong style attacks leave your Pokemon open to multiple attacks after it lands a hard-hitting blow.

The Hisui region is also home to tougher wildlife, such as the Alpha Pokemon who boast stronger stats, and Noble Pokemon who’ll need to be taken down with a mixture of traditional Pokemon battles and soothing balms that you’ll throw at them. That’s easier said than done though, as these boss battles will see Noble Pokemon charge and attack you when you encounter them in these boss battles.

Outside of battle, you’ll be able to explore the land and use your Pokemon for traversal. Two examples shown by Nintendo include a Braviary for flight, a special Wyrdeer to help you navigate on land faster, and a Basculegion for when you need to explore rivers and seas. Just don’t think about Basculegion’s messed-up backstory and you’ll be fine.

Customization will also play a large part in your journey, with the option to equip different clothes, accessories, and hairstyles helping to create a unique character for your journey across the region inhabited by multiple clans. For more on the game before it launches on January 28 for Nintendo Switch, check out our Pokemon Legends Arceus preorder hub or head on over to Amazon where you can grab it for $55.

Fortnite is finally making its way back to iOS thanks to Nvidia’s games cloud streaming service GeForce Now.

GeForce Now is adding Fortnite as a limited-time beta on iOS, with the GPU manufacturers letting players into Epic Games’ battle royale shooter using iOS’ native web browser, Safari. Players who want to try out Fortnite will need a GeForce Now subscription to play, with the game supporting both touch and controller support.

If you’re interested in playing Fortnite on the go again on your iPhone, you can sign up for the beta right here. Nvidia is using the beta to test server capacity, but an end time hasn’t been announced yet. It does say that players will be added in batches over the coming weeks.

Fortnite was notoriously removed from Apple’s App Store over a year ago, after Epic Games attempted to circumvent royalty payments by implementing a direct payment service in the game. This planned move resulted in months of legal fighting between Apple and Epic Games, with the case eventually settled late last year. Both parties have planned to appeal the ruling, with legal proceedings still ongoing.

This year’s Dota Pro Circuit Winter Tour comes to an unfortunate close with a canceled first Major. Valve claimed that the “discovery and spread of new strains of COVID-19” and the “resulting increase of travel restrictions” made it difficult to gather all the qualified teams from across the globe for a proper LAN tournament.

The Dota Pro Circuit consists of three Tours, all of which pit teams against each other in Regional Leagues before advancing the top performers to Majors. However, the canceled Major means the Winter Tour will end without any advancement to an international stage. As a result, points from the first Major have been redistributed between the other two Majors scheduled later in the year.

In its blog post about the cancelation, Valve promised to monitor the global health situation and travel restrictions to gauge whether or not future Majors can take place as planned. Unexpected variants such as Omicron and spikes in COVID cases, like that over the holidays, might further interrupt the DPC schedule.

Dota 2 has managed to stay one of the most popular esports since its release in July 2013. The Dota Pro Circuit is the most recent iteration of its esports league, which evolved from the Dota Major Championship series. The Winter Tour is currently ongoing, and the latest Spring Tour passed earlier last year. Competing teams hope to earn enough points to enter The International for a chance at becoming the Dota 2 World Champion.

A manual containing images of a Starfield collector’s edition has leaked online, with the Starfield subreddit noting that the document includes images of a special edition watch. Designed by prop company The Wand Company, the timepiece is labeled as the LPV6 Chronomark Smartwatch and comes branded with the words “Chronomark” and “Est 2188”, to possibly link it to an in-game company within Bethesda’s cosmic sandbox

As spotted by VGC, a behind-the-scenes video from June 2021 also briefly showed off the watch, with the two devices being identical when compared to each other. As far as wrist-mounted chronal-logging gadgets go, the LPV6 Chronomark Smartwatch seems to be able to at least keep you informed of what the current time is according to where you are in the world, and it sports a nifty white, red, and grey color scheme.

Other features include a barometer, weather information and sunrise, sunset and moon phase info, which it can obtain through a Bluetooth connection to a phone using its Android software.

Starfield’s possible collector’s edition watch

If it is genuine, then the Starfield collector’s edition will likely be revealed closer to the launch of the Bethesda space odyssey on November 11 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The Wand Company has a history of producing movie and video game props–like a Pokeball replica that you shouldn’t hurl at your hamster–and in the past it has worked with Bethesda on a range of die-cast models of Fallout vehicles.

In other Starfield news, a few other tidbits of info were released towards the end of 2021, such as concept art which offered a cryptic tease on the game, non-binary character customization, and a closer look at the settled systems that players can explore.

Last November, Blizzard announced that going forward Diablo 2: Resurrected would be treated more like a live service game, including the implementation of a Public Test Realm or PTR to stress test updates before they’re sent live. The PTR is now live, with Blizzard encouraging as many players as possible to help with stress testing.

While the PTR is intended to eventually be used to test the game’s upcoming 2.4 update, which will include the introduction of the competitive Ladder Play mode, only a small server and database update is live now for testing. The initial PTR patch notes include only a single update that reads “character saves are now saved on the regional database, rather than the global database, alleviating database stress and mitigating server stability issues.”

The #Diablo2Resurrected Database/Server Update PTR is now live.

📈 Jump in to help stress test today starting @ 3pm PST
⚔️ Enter the fight with level 99 characters

— Diablo (@Diablo) January 12, 2022

Players will be able to jump straight into play on the PTR with level 99 characters, with the test realm open to every player who owns the game. Blizzard included the following instructions to access the PTR:

To acquire access to the PTR, open your Battle.net launcher application and select the Diablo II: Resurrected tab. Above the “Play” button and under the “Game Version” text, select the dropdown menu and click “Public Test Realm.” Now you’ll be able to download and install the test version of the game. Once finished, simply select “Play” to launch the PTR. As normal updates are automatically downloaded by the Battle.net launcher application, so too is the PTR.

As well as these instructions, Blizzard has included a section informing players of the most useful way for them to help test the PTR. These developer notes encourage people to “play and log in and out A LOT,” adding that “it would be helpful if players could creator characters of different types (Hardcore, Classic, etc.)”

Since the PTR launched, Blizzard has already made a small change to the test environment, having pushed a small update that includes tokens players can use to respec the characters they use on the PTR. The developers added that the gear equipped on characters right now isn’t intended to be specific to the meta, and is “more from a QA environment,” though changes will be made to the gear in time for the 2.4 update in the PTR.

Diablo II: Resurrected PTR Schedule:

👾 1/12 – Database/Server Update PTR
⚔️ Coming Soon – 2.4 PTR

— Diablo (@Diablo) January 11, 2022

While the upcoming update is clearly big in Blizzard’s plans for Diablo 2: Resurrected, Blizzard doesn’t currently have a release schedule for update 2.4, either in the PTR or the live game.

The update has arrived amidst ongoing fallout from various lawsuits and investigations into alleged sexual harassment and discrimination at Activision Blizzard.
