The next step in Gen FF, the Garena Free Fire collaboration with K-Pop sensation BTS, has arrived, with both new items and features in-game and a brand-new music video from the band made entirely inside Free Fire.

The music video–featuring the band’s 2018 hit Idol–features all of the character skins designed by the group during the event. The skins have been available for purchase since the Gen FF collaboration began on March 23.

Multiple new modes and features have added to Garena Free Fire as part of Gen FF as well, including Pop Sway, a limited-time mode where players “can achieve event milestones with top Free Fire tracks played in the background,” and the new Rush Hour Akimbo mode, where players can find the Akimbo Activator item–which grants whoever finds it dual-wielding ability. Players who complete certain milestones in this mode can win a new skin for the in-game penguin pet Mr. Waggor.

The Garena Free Fire and BTS collaboration Gen FF will continue into the month of April, culminating in a grand finale event for which details have not yet been announced. The game is available for download on both iOS and Android devices.

Ainsel River is one of the optional underground zones in Elden Ring. It’s located beneath Liurnia of the Lakes in the upper west section of the world map, and as such, it can be accessed from the Ainsel River Well in that zone. The Ainsel River Well is only one of the locations from which you’ll be able to access the Ainsel River, but the way this zone is set up can be confusing. It’s split into a south side and a north side, neither of which connect directly unless you leap from the north to the south side in the Uhl Palace Ruins, above where the Hermit Merchant is located.

There are a few important sections to understand, including the Nokstella, Eternal City subregion and its tie to Ranni’s questline, which is necessary to unlock Ranni’s secret ending. You’ll need to enter the north side of the map by finding the Fingerslayer Blade and progressing Ranni’s quest up until you gain access to Renna’s Rise, which contains the Waygate that teleports you to the Ainsel River Main site of grace. Both sides of the zone contain valuable treasure and there is only one merchant located on the south side of the zone.

Ainsel River (South Side)

Taking the Ainsel River Well elevator down to Ainsel River drops you off near a site of grace called Ainsel River Well Depths. From here, you’ll want to enter the cavern filled with giant ants and hang a left until you reach the Ainsel River Sluice Gate. Once you reach the room with the sluice, hang right up the side ramp and onto the rampart. The site of grace is on the opposite end of the walkway. Most of the ants you face can be taken down with slash attacks and magic, but the armored ants can quickly rush you if you aren’t paying attention; your best bet is to take them out one-by-one with magic or ranged attacks to their rear end, which they’ll expose if you dodge-roll away from their rush attacks.

From the top of the sluice, you can now make out the main area of Uhl Palace Ruins. Getting down to the Uhl Palace Ruins from the sluice gate requires that you take the nearby elevator, lest you fall and die. Once there, get prepared to fight a whole swarm of claymen.

Map of Ainsel River

Beyond the Uhl Palace Ruins is one of the Hermit Merchants of Elden Ring. He’s located in a large ornate structure on the far side of the “room” which contains a ton of claymen and a Malformed Star that can snipe you if you aren’t careful. Magic and ranged attacks are key to defeating the Malformed Star as well as any claymen that attempt to break your cover by charging you at close range.

Ainsel River Map Note: Near the Hermit Merchant is a corpse who is holding onto the Ainsel River Map Fragment.

Heading slightly southwest from the Hermit Merchant’s location gets you to the Ainsel River Downstream point of grace. Following the river west from that point provides a vantage point overlooking the grotesque Lake of Rot, but following the river north directly takes you to the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella fight and a good look at what to expect from Nokstella, Eternal City, which cannot be accessed directly from here.

Frozen Lightning Spear

Obtaining the Frozen Lightning Spear incantation (Fai 34 minimum to use it) requires you to defeat the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella, who also drops 12,000 runes upon dying. The Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella can be a challenging boss if you attempt to fight it with more than one melee character at one time, but his attacks tend to be far more predictable when his focus is locked on only one person; the best strategy here is to keep his focus on one melee fighter while making sure your ranged fighters have plenty of space to stand back and hit the boss with everything they have. He only begins to use gap closers once 50% or so of his health has been depleted, which gives the party plenty of time to wear him down.

Ainsel River Main (North Side)

The Ainsel River Main area is only unlocked after you access the Waygate in Renna’s Rise during Ranni’s questline, or after you ride the coffin in the northwestern part of Deeproot Depths. This section of Ainsel River contains Nokstella, Eternal City–the place you saw earlier if you defeated the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella fight and procured the Once you’ve unlocked the Ainsel River Main point of grace, speak to Miniature Ranni a few times while resting so that she can move the quest forward and make you aware of her hunter, the Baleful Shadow, who will invade your game after you’ve passed through Nokstella, Eternal City.

Heading south from the Ainsel Rivel Main site of grace, you’ll encounter a swarm of claymen and a Malformed Star presiding over the gate to the southwest canal, which is where you’ll need to go at this point in order to follow the current of the river to Nokstella. In the ant cave ahead, you’ll reach a fork in the road where one path turns left and the other path turns right. Following the river right will take you further along your path to Nokstella. Meanwhile, following the path to the left will take you to some treasure.

Wing of Astel

Fight (or run past) the armored ant and move left through the tunnel to reach an opening where two gravity magic users guard a cliff facing the ruins where the Hermit Merchant is located. From here, follow the side of the cliff and jump down to the rock platform below, and then keep hugging the wall from that point until you’re able to jump down to the ruins with the treasure chest on top. That treasure chest contains the Wing of Astel, a magical curved sword that features the powerful Nebula special move and scales to Int as well as Dex and Str.

Nokstella, Eternal City

Nokstella is a subterranean city, like Nokron, that is occupied by silver tears and nox swordstresses. There are several layers of the city area, and the direction you choose to go in determines what kind of experience you’ll have. It is *not* necessary to climb the staircase and travel through the actual city in order to progress the Ranni quest at this point, but it is necessary to travel across the river basin on the city floor, fighting silver tears and other enemies including giant snails, until you reach an elevator on the west side of the basin that carries you down to the Nokstella Waterfall Basin point of grace.

Nokstella entrance

Moon of Nokstella

Following the staircase up from the Nokstella, Eternal City point of grace brings you to the first of three tiers that makes up the subterranean city. Each tier is dangerous to fight through, mainly because of the swarms of silver tears that explode into lightning when they get too close. However, using ranged magic and weapons (especially lightning-imbued weapons) is your best bet to fend these swarms off from a distance before they close the gap. You’ll also run into giant marbles that need to be taken down with heavy weapons or magic. Note that this guide doesn’t go into detail explaining each of the many treasures and smithing stones laden within the city itself; that’s for you to find and uncover.

The first and second tier are connected by bridge, but you’ll need to fight your way past the giant marble to gain access to the staircase on the second tier that brings you up into a chamber where a marble and several silver tears drop from the ceiling. Take a left out of the chamber and you’ll find yourself faced with another set of stairs. Follow that up to the third and final tier, where you’ll need to fight two humanoid Silver Tear bosses and one final nox swordstress. They can be tricky to fight in a group, so you should even the odds with an ashes summon of your choice here. Finally, run to the opposite end of the room from the entrance and open the treasure chest, revealing the Moon of Nokstella. Also nearby is a way down to a nearby Erdtree sprout with a Golden Seed attached to it.

Baleful Shadow Fight & Ranni’s Quest

Back at the Nokstella Waterfall Basin area that we mentioned earlier, speaking to Ranni again and exhausting all of her dialogue will brief you on the danger of the Baleful Shadow that lurks ahead. Following the corridor downstream will take you directly to the battle with the Baleful Shadow, who is an incredibly fast and aggressive combatant resembling Blaidd in appearance.

Baleful Shadow is weak against poison, making it useful to attack him with poison arrows and abilities (or poison throwing darts, if your Dex is high enough) so you can build up his poison meter. Otherwise, stay away for as long as you can since his attacks have incredibly high range in addition to brutal damage and speed. It would be wise to summon friends for this fight.

Once you’ve beaten the Baleful Shadow, Ranni will decide you’ve served your purpose and take off on her own, but not before giving you a mysterious key. At this point, you can decide whether or not to follow the story deeper into Lake of Rot or return to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library and unlock the chest next to Rennala. But other than that, congratulations on getting through Ainsel River!

Friday ‘Nite is a weekly Fortnite column in which GameSpot editor Mark Delaney takes a closer look at current events in the wide world of Fortnite, with a special emphasis on the game’s plot, characters, and lore.

A few weeks ago, before the launch of Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2, I laid out my hopes for the new season, saying that I was interested in playing a more story-driven Season 2 after the debut of Chapter 3 was a bit light in that regard. After two full weeks of story missions and other on-island events, it’s safe to say I got my wish; Fortnite Season 2 is packed with new characters critical to the lore and seems intent on including a bundle of new story missions every week. It’s just too bad the story being told this season is far too similar to that of previous chapters.

In Chapter 2, Season 7, aliens attacked. The emergence of an intimidating mothership the width of the entire Fortnite island meant doom for all those living on Apollo, or so we thought. Loopers found themselves ideologically divided between those who welcomed the alien invaders, such as Sunny, the ska-dancing host of the welcoming committee, and those who vehemently sought to drive back the extraterrestrial threat, like Doctor Slone and the Imagined Order.

As the players, we were cast into the side of the resistance, even as it meant working with the IO, a shadowy organization that, to date, seemed to be playing the bad guys. Through our uneasy alliance, we got to work alongside Slone every single week, running recon missions, surveillance ops, and daring sabotages, the collective goal of which was to learn about–and eventually undermine–The Last Reality, the alien race that had touched down on the Fortnite island.

It worked too. In time, we toppled the mothership and destroyed the alien spacecraft that had invaded the all-important island. But rather than be cast as heroes, Slone threw us out like the trash. Our final sabotage mission, Operation: Sky Fire, was a suicide mission–we just didn’t know it until it was too late. Surviving merely by coincidence thanks to an intervening sentient cube (of the Cube Legion, the aliens’ parents, basically), we crash-landed back on the island, only to turn our attention to a greater threat, one that would demand a full season’s worth (Season 8) of funding a war effort via in-game gold bar donations that would see new weapons and mechs come to the game.

Flash forward to today. Currently, it’s the IO, not an alien threat, that seeks to take over the island. Slone and company believe it’s their rightful place in the omniverse, but The Seven are diametrically opposed to the IO’s ways of violently taking power, so players now find themselves in the middle of yet another resistance movement, with an all-too-familiar gameplay cycle at the center of this storytelling-gameplay bridge.

In these opening weeks of the season, players have been cast as do-it-all resistance grunts, once more running recon and executing sabotages. Rather than study aliens and their spacecraft for the IO and Slone, we’re aiding The Seven, led by new face (okay, new mask), The Origin. While some of the specifics of the war effort donations are giving way to new weapons, others are exactly the same–mounted turrets and the return of some of the game’s best weapons were funded just a few months ago in Chapter 2, Season 8, and now they’re here once again for Chapter 3, Season 2.

Even the IO airships are too much like the Abductors of Season 7.

It’s a bit disappointing to see Epic return to this well, one of the powerful invaders and the scrappy guerrillas (and sometimes gorillas) who must dismantle the system of power one skirmish at a time. Of course, this is a well video games as a whole can’t resist drinking from. Ubisoft has centered its last 15 years around making essentially the same game in different settings–always with a tyrant at the top and a growing resistance hellbent on freeing the citizenry.

Still, it feels especially odd for Epic to rehash the Season 7/8 plot so soon given that story hasn’t been the focus all that long in Fortnite. It almost makes me wonder if some of these similar ideas were thrown together last-minute as the studio grappled with how to present its war story amid real-life war dominating the headlines. Ultimately, I think that amount of work wasn’t actually done in the few weeks Epic had to work with, suggesting this was always going to be how the season played out, even as the parallels to older seasons are quite glaring for players who participate in the game’s ongoing story.

I’m reserving final judgment for this season’s narrative efforts until I see its finale, though. Oddly enough, I think a rehash of the Season 7 finale would actually work wonders for the ongoing season. Whereas Season 7 ended with Slone’s betrayal–that, in hindsight, we should’ve seen coming–I think a similar twist is exactly what the Fortnite story needs.

The Rahul Kohli-voiced Origin is demanding we prove ourselves to the cause, making it very clear in these first few weeks that he doesn’t trust us as supposed fighters of the good fight. But the feeling is mutual. I’ve written before about how I’m not sure I can trust The Foundation, and I get a similar vibe from The Origin. He’s so far demanded unwavering support, to the extent that it feels like he’s setting us up to follow the wrong orders down the line. Much like I think about The Foundation, I also wonder if The Origin’s intentions are true and good-natured, but also ill-advised. As it’s the stated goal of The Seven to break The Loop, I wonder what happens if they do.

A twist that reveals everything we thought we knew about the omniverse is wrong would feel like an exciting next chapter for the Fortnite story, one where we can finally meet Geno, and perhaps reveal powers that are greater than either the Imagined Order or The Seven. But unless or until that happens, Season 2’s story is all “been there, funded that.”

Not content with simply buffing Apex Legends‘ Mozambique shotgun to ludicrous levels for April Fools’ Day, Respawn has taken things a step further for this year’s holiday. This year, the Mozambique has been buffed to fire powerful Nessie plushies.

From now until the end of the weekend (April 3), you’ll be able to find spider nests across Kings Canyon, Olympus, and Storm Point. Breaking them will cause a special golden Mozambique shotgun to spawn.

Something strange is happening here 🤔
Hop into the game this weekend only to get in on the fun. pic.twitter.com/iKVkvwLvgX

— Apex Legends (@PlayApex) April 1, 2022

These unique sidearms only spawn with 10 shots, each of which is a Nessie plush that will cutely squeak on its way to torment your foes. If no one is nearby, the Nessie plush will eventually despawn.

Apex Legends is still in the midst of its Warriors Collection Event, which adds Crypto’s heirloom to the game. Both the event and heirloom were seen in a big Apex Legends leak ahead of their release, alongside nine characters that may come to the game–the most likely of which is Newcastle, who may be Bangalore’s brother.

All of the focus may be on the new Warriors Collection Event currently taking place during Apex Legends Season 12: Defiance, but that’s not stopping most fans from wondering what Respawn has planned next for their beloved battle royale game in the next season. Season 13 will no doubt bring plenty of balance changes, a new character, new events, and more–but when can we expect to dive in?

Apex Legends seasons run for three months each to allow for a total of four seasons per year. Since Season 12 began on February 8, 2022, Respawn is expected to launch Season 13 on May 3. Of course, that date is barring an unexpected delay that could arise for any number of reasons. Season delays have happened in the past, so it’s not completely out of the question, but it remains an unlikely scenario.

As for what to expect in Season 13, there’s very little concrete information. Early rumors and leaks hint at the introduction of a new legend, Blisk, who may be able to summon a titan that could aid in battle or scan the environment. Additionally, Loba is anticipated to be the next legend to receive an heirloom.

As for now, Season 12 continues to barrel forward with the limited-time return of the fan-favorite Control mode and the introduction of drone specialist Crypto’s long-awaited heirloom.

Call of Duty: Warzone has fallen victim to the day of jokes and trolls, with Raven Software’s latest patch notes revealing some pretty wacky changes to the standard battle royale experience.

According to the patch notes for April 1, Warzone’s parachuting functionality has been modified in Caldera, which removes parachuting and fall damage. Players are reporting that they’re dropping into Caldera without their chute, and they’re surviving the massive fall.

So how about that Totally Normal BR playlist in Warzone today pic.twitter.com/VejAh3ufj1

— CharlieIntel (@charlieINTEL) April 1, 2022

While the parachuting change seems to hold some truth, the patch notes also suggest that loadout drops, which are a popular feature in Warzone, have been removed from the game. However, it looks like loadout drops are still very much in the game, and free loadouts seem to be dropping at the beginning of matches on Rebirth Island.

Rocket launchers have also been modified for the day. Players are reporting that launchers and explosives also work differently on Caldera and Rebirth Island, as explosions aren’t killing anyone in Warzone for April Fools’. Instead, players are being flung backwards. Incendiary ammo seems to be sending players soaring into the air as well for April Fools’ Day.

Additionally, the patch notes share other silly features that may not actually be in the game, including Fortnite-esque portable forts and lootable fauna.

The full patch notes can be seen below, as shared by Raven Software.

Warzone recently added the Communication Towers feature to Rebirth Island, and we have a handy tower guide to help you locate them all. More changes are expected to come to Rebirth Island as the Rebirth Reinforced event progresses.

GENERAL

Gameplay Adjustments

Custom Loadouts have been removed.

Loadout Weapons were clearly overpowered due to Players equpping effective combinations of Attachments on them. In order to level the playing field for everyone, we have removed Loadouts from the game. May RNG be on your side!

Parachuting functionality has been modified in Caldera.

Data indicates that a considerable number of Players die upon Infil. Given the ongoing struggle, we’ve removed this initial barrier of entry. We’d like to thank our creators for providing live demonstrations of this issue.

New Tactical Equipment

Fortification Grenade Players can throw this grenade to generate a 20x20x20 fortified box base equipped with a Firesale Buy Station, Anti-Aircraft Gun, and defensive Armored Truck AI, giving them a distinct advantage during open-area confrontations.

Upon analyzing our heat maps, we’ve determined that Players need better tools to engage with one another in low density areas. We fully expect portable fortresses to help improve survivability and leave a mark on enemy morale.

New Contract

Subscribe Now! This Contract marks all Players using prefixes/suffixes/clan tags including but not limited to TTV, FBG, YTG, TK, TOK, as high value targets for the duration of the match. Enjoy the new followers!

Elden Ring may have no shortage of cool weapons that you can find and equip, but let’s be real–you’re really just dying to get your hands on some claws and cosplay as Wolverine, right? Lucky for you, the Hookclaws are a solid option for mobility-focused players, and they can be found pretty early in the game. We’ll tell you precisely where below.

Hookclaws explained

The Hookclaws are, as you might’ve guessed, a claw weapon that requires 8 Strength and 14 Dexterity to wield. You can use one claw alongside a shield, or you can two-hand the weapon to equip one claw on each hand for some frenetic and aggressive attacks that come along with some hefty bleed buildup–and they look cool doing it.

The Hookclaws’ weapon skill is a fairly common one known as Quickstep. It functions similarly to the dodge from Bloodborne, allowing you to quickly maneuver around your enemies fluidly, even letting you get behind them quickly for some fast attacks.

Hookclaws item description reads:

Weapon worn on the fist comprised of sharp parallel blades favored by those who lurk in the dark. Lacerations cause blood loss with great effect. Claw weapons come in pairs, and two-handing this weapon will equip it to both hands.

Where to find the Hookclaws

The Hookclaws can be found near the beginning of Stormveil Castle. When you reach the castle for the first time, opt to take the secret entrance recommended to you by Gatekeeper Gostoc. Make your way through the crumbling cliffs until you take some steps up and into the first inner section of the castle.

Hookclaws location

Inside this opening section of the castle, take note of the cellar directly ahead of you before going up any further steps. You’ll know it’s the right area if it’s packed full of boxes with a single axe-wielding enemy wandering about. Kill that enemy and find the Hookclaws against the back wall to begin your Wolverine cosplay journey.

A Halo Infinite developer has acknowledged that the fan community surrounding the game is “simply out of patience” and growing tired of hearing developer 343 Industries talk about updates to come in the future instead of delivering them.

Writing on Reddit, Halo community director Brian Jarrard said the studio is not pleased by how it cannot meet the expectations of players. There is no silver bullet for making things better, Jarrard said (via VGC).

“There are indeed a lot of challenges and constraints. We’re certainly not happy to be unable to meet player and community expectations, it’s a difficult situation that’s going to take the team time to work through,” he explained.

The current focus for 343 is Season 2: Lone Wolves, which arrives in May. More details about this are expected soon. A blog post about Halo Infinite’s Season 1 “outcomes” and feedback is coming today, April 1, but this likely won’t have much of significance for Season 2, Jarrard said.

In his post on Reddit, Jarrard acknowledged that fans want more content, and they want it faster. But that might not be possible due to other factors at play.

“A lot of production planning, costing, planning, hiring, etc.. is all happening which doesn’t really lend to detailed regular updates. We understand the community is simply out of patience and frankly, I think understandably tired of words,” Jarrard said. “We just need some time for the team to get the details sorted and then we can certainly share as much as we can.”

Halo Infinite had the biggest launch in Halo history last year, with 20 million people checking out the game right out of the gate. But as mentioned, players have been calling on 343 to launch new content, playlists, and other features to the game as part of its live-service model. The long-awaited campaign co-op mode was recently delayed even further, while Forge mode isn’t expected until Season 3.
