Bungie’s news post this week focused on weapon changes arriving next season in Destiny 2, and Glaives–the new melee weapon introduced in The Witch Queen DLC–will see major adjustments. The biggest complaint players had was that Exotic Glaives weren’t able to reach their potential, especially after earning them through arduous quest steps at the Evidence Board.

Exotic Glaives use energy built up from defeating enemies with projectiles, allowing that energy to be used for a unique, class-specific ability. However, this wasn’t as useful as it could be due to how long it currently takes to build up energy. Bungie said that Glaives will have increased projectile speed and energy granted after projectile damage, making it easier to build energy for the Exotic Glaive’s ability.

In addition, The Titan’s Edge of Action creates a Void overshield when inside the bubble, and the Warlock’s Edge of Intent has increased the speed of the healing turret. Lastly, the Hunter’s Edge of Concurrence has increased damage and can now chain eight enemies.

Legendary Glaives–The Enigma and Lubrae’s Ruin–will see changes too. Bungie emphasized that Glaives are melee weapons, and buffs shouldn’t be applied to melee hits but will increase melee damage. In PvE, players can deal 25% more damage, but this doesn’t apply to bosses and vehicles. Also in PvE, Glaive shields give players 97.5% damage resistance, and PvP gives 75%. Based on the range stat, projectile speed will see an increase: “At 0 stat: increased from 30 to 60 m/s. At 100 stat: increased from 80 to 100 m/s.”

These changes will be live when Season 17 starts on May 24. The weapon-centered TWAB also talked about Exotic weapon buffs, tuning weapons to play better while airborne, and keeping auto rifles, SMGs, and machine guns competitive with other weapon types in the game.

One of the biggest upcoming Nintendo Switch games is undoubtedly Splatoon 3, and now we finally know when we can return to Inkopolis. Splatoon 3 is set to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on September 9. Preorders have been live for more than a year at this point, but if you were waiting for an actual release date before ordering, we’ve got you covered with our Splatoon 3 preorder guide.

Splatoon 3 preorder bonuses

No preorder bonuses have been revealed for Splatoon 3 thus far. That said, retailers such as Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, and Target often have exclusive bonuses for Nintendo Switch games. We wouldn’t be surprised at all if some physical goodies featuring the paint-splatting Inklings are revealed in the coming weeks. The only downside to Nintendo Switch exclusives when it comes to preorder bonuses is that every retailer tends to offer something different–so you have to pick which bonus you like the most.

Official in-game bonuses for Nintendo Switch games are rare outside of Pokemon games. But it would be cool to see exclusive outfits offered as preorder bonuses with all preorders. We’ll just have to wait and see, but if Nintendo plans on offering in-game bonuses, they will likely be announced soon.

Alongside the release date announcement, Nintendo showed off a gameplay video of Turf War mode. Splatoon 3 will have a suite of competitive multiplayer modes as well as the cooperative Salmon Run mode and a single-player campaign.

Splatoon 3 is indeed going to release this summer (in North America), at least if you’re going by the very technical definition of the season. Nintendo announced Splatoon 3 launches September 9, once again including competitive multiplayer alongside a campaign mode and cooperative Salmon Run.

The post-apocalyptic weirdness Splatoon is known for continues in the latest campaign, once again seeing the Inklings facing off against the Octarians.

“In the single-player mode, you’ll join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze,” Nintendo said in a press release. Sounds normal.

As previously announced, Splatoon 2 features the sequel to Salmon Run, with players working together to defeat waves of increasingly challenging enemies. Of course, the game series is best known for its Turf War multiplayer matches, which are back in Splatoon 3 and feature a mix of returning maps and all-new ones. You’ll be able to use a new bow weapon called the “stringer” for strategic ink placement, as well.

Splatoon 3 is available to preorder now. Anyone who purchased a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership can also play the Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion DLC right now.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One developer Frogwares has announced that while the PS4 version of the game is still on track for an April 28 release, the Xbox One version has been put on indefinite hiatus.

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the studio was forced to prioritize development on the PS4 version and is now offering a full refund to anyone who preordered the game on Xbox One.

“We had to make a tough decision on the Xbox One version of the game. Due to circumstances way outside of our control, the Xbox One version of Chapter One has been postponed indefinitely,” Frogwares said in a statement. “To say that the war made an impact on us is probably the understatement of the decade. Keeping our personal and mental situation out of this, the war impacted us from a production point of view heavily.”

Frogwares–which is based in Ukraine–added that optimization on the old-gen versions of the Sherlock Holmes prequel was a bigger task than the studio originally anticipated. A lot of “invisible work was done” to ensure that the game ran smoothly on the older consoles, which included visible changes to the map of the city by cutting certain alleyways and shortcuts.

Since the war on Ukraine began, the country has asked PlayStation, Xbox, and esports organizations to stop supporting Russia. Multiple movie studios have stopped releasing new films in Russia, Apple no longer sells any products there, and the gaming industry has come together to provide relief aid for Ukraine.

If you want to help relief efforts, we’ve assembled a list of humanitarian organizations like the Ukrainian Red Cross and UNICEF that you can donate to.

Elden Ring Patch 1.04 has now had a few days to marinate, which means that some well-deserved changes and rebalances have affected the PvP metagame. Except, of course, for anyone wielding the superpowered Moonveil or Rivers of Blood katanas into combat, as they are just as powerful as ever. At least until they get nerfed in a future update. That said, the Rivers of Blood katana gives its wielder a special skill called Corpse Piler which can theoretically allow them to take on any boss (including Malenia) and with the press of a button, can usually eviscerate other players–just as long as they manage to get the first strike advantage.

Getting the first strike isn’t always an option, and since Corpse Piler can sap your resources and leave you vulnerable, you may still find yourself at the mercy of experienced opponents in PvP. That said, we’ve come up with the perfect Rivers of Blood PvP build that–in the right hands–can contend against any enemy, in any circumstance.

A fully-upgraded Rivers of Blood katana can rip through just about any enemy player at high levels.

Preferred Attributes:

In the following order, you’ll want to focus on allocating your attribute points into Arcane, Endurance, Vigor, and Dexterity. It’s important to keep them almost equally high, but–ignoring what the Rivers of Blood item description says–your main DPS stats are Arcane and then Dexterity in that order. You probably won’t want to put many points into Strength, which contributes the least amount toward Rivers of Blood’s damage output. Regarding the other three attributes, you only really need to cap your Mind at 20 or at most, 25. Further, you don’t need any points in Faith or Intelligence at all, but if you increase your four main stats to at least 50 apiece and then subsequently choose to branch into magic later on (once you’ve reached level 175+ or thereabouts) you might find some use in investing into Faith, which allows the use of powerful dragon roar abilities and other incantations that can provide added attack power, such as Golden Vow or Flame, Grant Me Strength.

Arcane is the most important attribute, followed by Endurance, Vigor, and Dexterity.

Equipment (and how to get it):

Right Hand Armament: Rivers of Blood +10

Left Hand Armament: none, or Dragon Communion Seal +10 (after reaching level 175+)

Head: Black Knife Hood

Chest: Black Knife Armor

Arms: Black Knife Gauntlets

Legs: Black Knife Greaves

Talisman 1: Green Turtle Talisman

Talisman 2: Carian Filigreed Crest

Talisman 3: Millicent’s Prosthesis

Talisman 4: Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2

The complete loadout in living color.

Rivers of Blood itself can be found on the corpse of Bloody Finger Okina, an NPC invader who appears when you first visit the Church of Repose, located in the Mountaintops of the Giants area made accessible in the latter half of the game. We have plenty more details on how to find Rivers of Blood in Elden Ring.

The Dragon Communion Seal, which becomes viable once you reach level 175+ and can begin to comfortably allocate points into Faith, can be found in the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave. This seal is accessible via the Stranded Graveyard point of grace, which is the second one you found in the very first starting area dungeon before reaching the First Step. All you need is two Stonesword Keys to deactivate the fog wall, and then you’ll find the Dragon Communion Seal in a chest at the very bottom of the dungeon–past the chariot and each of the guards.

Our Rivers of Blood PvP build is ideally focused on keeping a light load. That way, it allows you the freedom to dodge roll hard and often. The Black Knife armor set is simultaneously light and protective enough to keep you relatively safe in most battles. Additionally, this armor set silences your movement, making it very easy to sneak up on unsuspecting opponents.

You can find the set on a corpse underneath a bridge in Ordina, Liturgical Town, but the tricky part is finding the town on the map. Ordina is located in the uppermost part of the Consecrated Snowfield, a hidden zone located above the Mountaintops of the Giants, and it’s only unlocked by finding both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. The right half of the Secret Medallion is in the Village of the Albinaurics in Liurnia, and the left half is dropped by Commander Niall in Castle Sol, which itself is located in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Once both halves are secured, you can return to the Grand Lift of Rold and show the Haligtree Secret Medallion to the statues, unlocking the Consecrated Snowfield zone and, by extension, Ordina, where you’ll find the Black Knife armor and complete your build.

This fight didn’t last very long.

The Green Turtle Talisman enhances recovery speed and can be found early on, in Summonwater Village, which is situated on the eastern outskirts of Limgrave. Summonwater lies directly in the middle of the only land route between Limgrave and Caelid, and it is the site of a Tibia Mariner battle.

Carian Filigreed Crest decreases the FP cost of Rivers of Blood’s devastatingly potent special ability, Corpse Piler, and can be purchased from War Counselor Iji for 5000 runes outside of Caria Manor in Liurnia, which is the same dungeon where you can find the powerful Sword of Night and Flame.

Millicent’s Prosthesis adds +5 Dexterity and increases the damage of subsequent attacks. It’s not particularly useful for Corpse Piler, which doesn’t scale with any items or bonuses that increase the power of successive attacks, but the successive damage increase does noticeably help when using basic attacks or thrown weapons in quick succession, which is a viable last resort once your FP pool runs dry or if you don’t have time to power up your next Corpse Piler attack before being hit. Take note that Millicent’s Prosthesis is a trickier talisman to acquire since you’ll need to assist Millicent in her questline all the way up through the end of the Elphael area in the Haligtree zone. If you don’t manage to get to it, you could alternatively get away with using the Fire Scorpion Charm, which is located in Mt. Gelmir at Fort Laiedd.

The Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2 vastly improves physical damage reduction, and you can find it on a corpse between the Dragon Temple Lift and Dragon Temple Rooftop points of grace in Crumbling Farum Azula, toward the very end of the main story questline.

Quick Items:

This build works well when equipped with Arc-scaling thrown items such as kukris and poisonbone darts for latch-ditch attempts at whittling an opponent’s health down at medium range. Throwing daggers and fan daggers can also be useful to the same end. If you’re going to use any pots, you should equip fire pots which scale in damage with the Fire Scorpion Charm and the Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear mentioned at different points in this guide. In general, your flask allotment should stick to a ratio of five Flasks of Crimson Tears to two Flasks of Cerulean Tears. The Flask of Wondrous Physick works best when you combine the Opaline Hardtear (for added physical damage negation) with the Cerulean Hidden Tear, which negates all FP consumption for a short time. Alternatively, you can use the Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear, which boosts your fire damage output and is useful both when paired with your main Corpse Piler special attack and also when paired with fire pots and Faith-based fire incantations or bloodflame incantations.

Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear can boost the fire damage output of Rivers of Blood and any fire-based attack you choose to equip.

Combat Strategy:

Most of the strategy involved in this Rivers of Blood PvP build already took place in the planning phase. It’s a lightweight build with one core gimmick: The Rivers of Blood katana’s special skill, Corpse Piler, which unleashes a series of whip-fast slashes that cut through enemies in a massive wave in front of you. These slashes also imbue fire damage and blood loss damage, which can rapidly trigger the deadly blood loss proc effect on your foes–this notorious status effect immediately causes potentially thousands of points of damage each time it activates, making it a surefire way to win most PvP battles.

As long as you’ve coordinated your loadout to keep your overall equipment weight low, you should be able to keep the upper hand over your enemies in most battles. In many cases, all you’ll need to do is walk up to the enemy and begin using Corpse Piler. If that doesn’t work at first, you should be able to dodge roll your way to safety, pop a flask, and dive right back in for the kill. Is it a cheap play? Absolutely! But it’s still highly effective as of patch 1.04, and that’s the part that counts.

Piling the corpses of other players is a fantastic way to farm Rune Arcs at high levels.

If you end up mixing Faith magic into your build as we suggested for higher-level Rivers of Blood wielders, try bolstering yourself with incantations such as Flame, Grant Me Strength, Dragonfire, and Swarm of Flies. There are many different incantations to experiment with, and you certainly don’t need magic to make this build work well in PvP battles, but there’s certainly some space to experiment here if you’d like to switch up your playstyle. Breath attacks generally work well when flushing opponents out of cover or picking them off from afar, and it’s nice to be able to quickly whip out a breath attack such as Dragonfire or Rotten Breath on an unsuspecting foe. If you manage to pop it off early enough, any breath attack can work well as a finishing move if your opponent is attempting to back out of range of your Corpse Piler ability with the expectation that they’ve secured a window of safety to heal or recoup their stamina at a medium distance.

The weekend is here in Destiny 2 and with it comes the return of Xur, the snake-faced salesman of Exotic and Legendary weapons and armor. After spending a long time dealing with a bug infestation, Xur’s inventory is finally functioning as advertised, with solid stat rolls on Exotic and Legendary armor that are exactly what you see before you purchase. Here’s where you can find Xur this weekend and all the stuff you can buy from him.

Xur arrives in the solar system with the daily reset on Friday, so we’ll update this article when he lands.

Xur is present every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET each Friday. His exact location is always a mystery when he first arrives, as he is not listed on the map, and for novice players, he can be easy to miss. However, there are a set number of locations where he takes up residence, including the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher’s Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ.

Alongside changes in his location, Xur’s inventory also rotates weekly. That means it’s worth visiting him each time to check out his new weapons and rolls on Exotic and Legendary armor. You can visit him any time between his arrival Friday and the weekly reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET the following Tuesday when Xur departs the Solar System.

We’re now in week five of Fortnite’s Chapter 3, Season 2, and with a new week comes new weekly challenges. Week 5 brings some decently easy challenges for some quick XP, which means more Battle Stars for your battle pass to unlock some more cosmetics, or even more V-Bucks.

Head to Coney Crossroads and get a couple challenges done at the same time.

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 Week 5 challenges

This week’s (seasonal) quests bring opportunities for 20,000 XP each, and with seven challenges, that means completing every challenge for the week will net players a whopping 140,000 XP.

Damage an opponent within 10 seconds of mantling (0/1)Damage opponent vehicles with the Heavy Sniper (0/600)Fall 10 stories or more without taking damage (0/1)Headshot IO forces with a sniper at Command Cavern or a battle location (0/3)Gain shield from Small Shield Potions in one match (0/75)Heal The Seven forces with Med Mist at a battle location (0/1)Hit an opponent twice using the Ranger Shotgun, without receiving damage (0/1)

This week’s battle location is over at Coney Crossroads, so find yourself a sniper rifle (an actual sniper rifle, not the Striker Burst rifle) and head toward the middle part of the map or Command Cavern and start looking for IO forces to pick off with any sniper rifle. To take care of another quest, try bringing a Heavy Sniper and look out for enemy vehicles while you’re at it. If you really want to go for three at the same time, find Med Mist and start spraying The Seven’s forces. Falling 10 stories or higher should be pretty easy with a Jetpack (available at any of the several IO blimps). Jump off of something high up, like the blimp you get the Jetpack at. Just make sure you use it before you smack against the ground.

To get the other challenges out of the way, make sure you’re always topping up your shields with Small Shield Potions when you’re below 50 in order to complete that shield challenge. Using any shotgun (like the Ranger Shotgun) should make it pretty easy to mantle up to another player and use the spread to at least get a little damage on them.

This week’s challenges do involve a bit of luck in order to complete them, as do all challenges, due to the randomized nature of loot drops in Fortnite. However, they are fairly easy to take care of, especially if you end up finding the right loot quickly. You’ve defeated Radahn, traversed the underground labyrinth of Nokron, and survived the Lake of Rot. After hopping in a coffin and riding down a waterfall of Scarlet Rot, you find yourself standing before a huge fog door. Behind it is one of the most unique bosses in all of Elden Ring: Astel, Naturalborn of the Void.

Taking down this cosmic horror is the last major step required to complete Ranni the Witch’s questline, but surviving the fight is a real challenge. With a huge moveset of unpredictable attacks–many capable of one-shotting you from across the arena–coming out victorious requires memorization and, above all else, timing. Here is everything you need to know to defeat Astel.

Before going in

Astel has fairly high absorption of non-physical damage, so go in armed with whatever weapon or spell in your arsenal is capable of dishing out the highest physical DPS possible. It is immune to most status effects, but still susceptible to Bleed, Poison, and Scarlet Rot–the latter of which being a particularly effective strategy.

Due to the nature of its attacks, you’ll want to keep your distance at various points throughout the fight. Consider equipping a weapon or spell with good range so you can continue getting in damage from afar. You can also lean on a range-focused Spirit Summon to do the work for you (Latenna the Albinauric, for example), but you’ll probably still be better served using the Mimic Tear.

Astel does deal Magic damage, so feel free to take a Spellproof Dried Liver or mix an Opaline Hardtear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick to prepare for the fight. However, its physical damage packs a huge punch on its own, so don’t worry too much about this. Just put on the tankiest armor set you have available and you should be fine.

How to Beat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void

When the glowing orb appears over Astel’s head, run away to avoid the teleportation explosion.

Astel is a huge boss in a huge arena. Just like in other fights of similar scale, always be prepared to close the gap when it retreats to the other side of the room, and don’t hesitate to unlock your camera when the situation calls for it.

The crystal bubbles that make up Astel’s torso and tail are heavily armored, so aim for its legs and head instead. The head is also where you can get off a Critical Attack if you manage to break its Poise. One of the most effective strategies in the fight is to lock onto its head and deal damage with projectiles from a medium distance away. For sorcerers, Rock Sling is your best bet here; Faith builds will find success with Stone of Gurranq. A highly leveled up bow and arrow can do the trick, too. Melee players can stick behind the boss and deal headshots up close when the coast is clear, but it’s a risky route to victory.

As mentioned, Astel is susceptible to Scarlet Rot. The closest you can get to cheesing the fight is to run up, get off a Rotten Breath cast, and retreat. The Scarlet Rot will eventually do all the work, and you can focus all your energy on dodging its attacks from a distance.

Astel’s moveset is deadly whether you’re across the arena or face-to-face. These are the most important moves to lookout for during phase one:

First phase

Laser beam. Astel will almost always begin the fight with this move. Its face will glow purple as it charges up the beam, before firing at you seconds later. This attack can span the entire arena, and is incredibly difficult to dodge. Practice getting the timing down, and roll left or right to avoid damage.Tail slam. This is often its follow-up attack after the initial laser beam. It will lift its tail in the air behind its back, before slamming down twice. This attack has deceptively long range, so be ready to dodge left or right through both slams no matter how far away you may be.Nebula. Its hand will glow purple before winding back and then swiping forward, leaving a trail of purple mist in its path which explodes seconds later. It will sometimes begin this attack by flying up in the air, and then coming down at you with the swipe. In either case, dodge through the swipe, and get out of the mist before taking damage from the AOE.Teleport. A small purple orb will glow above its head before it teleports away in a large AOE explosion. Get some distance to avoid the blast. It will either show back up across the arena, or directly above you. If the latter happens, it will proceed to fly down at you and attempt a grab attack, which will almost certainly one-shot you if it lands. Lock on and dodge away when it swoops down.Wave of Darkness. It will slam its hands into the ground, creating a series of circular shock waves all around it. Get some distance when you see it winding its arms back to avoid taking damage from the effect.Gravity attack. Purple lightning will strike the ground all around it, before lifting you (and anyone else in the vicinity) into the air and slamming you back into the ground. Run away to get out of range of the AOE.Astel will attempt to grab you in its pincers if you get too close.

If you get too close to Astel from the front, it will also attempt to poke you with its tail or grab you in its pincers. Both attacks are well telegraphed and easy to dodge. (You can also avoid them altogether by fighting from a distance).

There is only one attack added during phase two of the fight:

Phase two

Meteorite of Astel. Purple mist will fill the sky all around and above Astel, before unleashing a barrage of meteorites at you from all directions. The damage is hard to avoid here, and if you get hit by more than one meteorite you will almost assuredly die. Locking on and dodging left repeatedly until the spell ends is the best strategy we’ve found.

The hardest part of the fight is getting down the timing on Astel’s hardest-to-dodge attacks, but stay focused on damaging the dome and you’ll take it down soon enough. When you do, you’ll be rewarded with 80,000 Runes and the Remembrance of Astel, which grants you access to a powerful Flail and Ash of War.

Head out of the cave and past the Glintstone Dragon to find Ranni the Witch beneath the Cathedral of Manus Celes. There, she’ll reward you with the Dark Moon Greatsword, a high-Intelligence weapon that’s shown up in various forms in From Software games since Kings Field in 2006.

Gearbox Entertainment and developer Under The Stairs have announced Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom, a new roguelite platformer. Using Victoria’s flashlight and slingshot, you’ll need to search for her grandfather and clear Bloom Manor of the darkness that has infested it.

According to Gearbox, you’ll be able to do this by finding extra flashlight batteries, collecting powerful new items to upgrade your arsenal for twin-stick shooter action, and tangling with lethal Guardians in an ever-changing mansion. Bloom Manor changes with every playthrough, and once you enter a new area, you’ll be able to choose between multiple different ways to increase your power and difficulty of the run for a tailor-made experience.

As you progress through the game, you’ll find the Bloom family’s secret past provides a–literal and metaphorical–guiding light for Victoria. As you complete quests and fight off monsters, you’ll unlock secrets about the Bloom family that could come in handy as you venture deeper into the manor.

“Eyes in the Dark creates an atmosphere of loneliness and isolation, all while giving you the tools to ultimately come out of the experience as a stronger person,” said Filip Neduk, game designer at Under the Stairs. “Victoria’s trial–going through the mansion alone and facing her fears–mirrors the player’s need to learn and master the mechanics of the game to progress; you both go through this adventure together.”
