Activision has revealed the Call of Duty Season 3 roadmap for both Vanguard and Warzone, which includes the Operation Monarch event centered around Godzilla and King Kong. Season 3 will arrive on April 27 packed with new operators, weapons, new battle pass, and more.

Operation Monarch begins May 11, bringing Godzilla and King Kong to battle head-to-head on Warzone’s Caldera island. While the event is still a ways away, Activision teases map changes and secrets to uncover on Caldera in preparation for the arrival of these Hollywood titans. Additionally, there will be a new Gulag location for Season 3.

Season 3 Classified Arms will also introduce a new set of operators to Vanguard and Warzone with Task Force Harpy. And as always, Season 3’s battle pass will include 100 tiers of new content, with two new DLC weapons in the free tiers.

Season 3 of Vanguard will add new multiplayer maps. Mayhem will be a small map available at launch, while Sphere is another small-size map coming later in the season. Another major addition to multiplayer is the Trophy System equipment coming to Vanguard as a new Field Upgrade, which will allow players to help avoid death by Vanguard’s wealth of lethal and tactical equipment. The Trophy System will intercept equipment, such as frag grenades, sticky bombs, and stun grenades while they are still in the air.

On the Zombies side, players can expect more seasonal challenges and DLC weapon unlock challenges to arrive to with Season 3. Unfortunately, a new map won’t be available in Zombies until sometime in Season 4, as Treyarch recently announced a standard map would arrive after Season 3.

Season 3 Classified Arms will be available following updates to both games. The Vanguard update will go live on April 26 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET, and one for Warzone on April 27 at the same time. Here is a breakdown of everything confirmed for Season 3 of Vanguard and Warzone. Vanguard Season 2 recently added the new Ice Axe melee weapon, which can be unlocked with an in-game challenge.

Outriders has been in a precarious position since its launch. The game combines a traditional third-person shooter with a lengthy story-based RPG. On top of that, it layers a loot shooter formula that gives you weird, goofy, frequently awesome weapons and armor to chase as you progress through its campaign. When I reviewed Outriders at its launch, I pointed out that it should be thought of more as an RPG than the loot shooter live game it appears to be.

But it’s impossible to deny that Outriders also has a live-service game’s endgame, meant to keep players busy as they challenge themselves with tough content and chase ever-better loot. With that endgame comes the same problem that all live games deal with: the struggle to keep players engaged long-term.

Developer People Can Fly is addressing the endgame issue head-on with Worldslayer, a big Outriders expansion set to launch on June 30. From the sound of things, Worldslayer complements the various big improvements added to Outriders with its free Frontiers update to create something of a whole new game. The expansion makes major adjustments to character progression, the difficulty-tuning Challenge system, the loot chase, and the endgame, reworking a lot about how Outriders works to make it a game you can sink more time into–and that’s to say nothing of the expansion’s new story.

We played about 90 minutes of Worldslayer, although that was entirely too little to actually get a real sense of the expansion, both because it adds a lot of content, and because its changes will take time for players to really sift through.

Worldslayer starts with a campaign that continues the story players wrapped up in the base game of Outriders, picking up almost exactly where it left off. The Worldslayer story assumes you’ve been doing Outriders endgame activity, which has you running around the world, picking up drop pods falling from the colony ship still in orbit around the planet Enoch. The good news, however, is that you don’t have to have done those things: You can boost your character up to the base game’s level cap and start the new content immediately, so if you’re new but have friends who are Outriders vets, you can join them in Worldslayer without waiting.

Anyway, hunting down those pods has also supplied new data for Abraham Zahedi, the scientist you recruited to your band of heroes in the main game, and with it, he discovers some new, upsetting information. The Anomaly is a strange, deadly storm that routinely ravages Enoch and vaporizes people–although it also occasionally mutates them into godlike superhumans, of which you are one–and it’s growing in both size and power. All the work you’ve been doing to capture pods filled with information, weapons, seeds, and other incredibly useful items that can help humanity survive will soon be for nothing, because if the Anomaly keeps growing, it’s going to wipe everyone out.

Ereshkigal is apparently the most powerful Altered out there, and you’re going to need to deal with her in Worldslayer.

We immediately saw the threat of those new storms in an icy level at the expansion’s start, where the volatile weather was so powerful, flying creatures were freezing and falling out of the sky. Not long after, the player’s group returns to Rift Town, the primary home of their allies, to find it wrecked by storms.

The story quickly becomes one of trying to find a way to do something about the Anomaly, after Channa, another of your team, experiences a vision of the future that provides a new lead. We learned a lot about the Anomaly and its origins in the base game of Outriders, and with the survival of humanity on the line, there’s not much choice but to go on another road trip across Enoch in an attempt to save the world. That’s going to put players at odds with a new big bad, an Altered called Ereshkigal, who looks pretty scary but who didn’t pop up in the portion we played.

The next level we saw takes the Outrider and their team to an abandoned fishing village as Tiago, another teammate, provides information about how we might reach a fortress controlled by the enemy Insurgents. The village itself has a spooky history–Tiago tells a ghost story about how a night fisherman returned to the village to find that everyone within had been slaughtered by Insurgents. Sporting a raincoat and a bloody hook, the fisherman tore through the soldiers, and the village remains haunted by his vengeful spirit. The opening portion of the level plays into that spooky feeling as we walk through the empty village, but before long, we learn the truth: The fisherman isn’t a ghost, he’s a towering Insurgent boss, and the empty village is actually the site of an ambush.

Worldslayer doesn’t drastically alter Outriders’ moment-to-moment gameplay, so these levels will feel similar to what players saw in the base game, although you should expect a host of new enemy types and bosses to freshen up combat a bit along the way. The big changes coming to the game in the expansion are actually somewhat more subtle.

The new PAX progression trees provide two more potential paths to specialize your character–but Ascension points also give you a separate means to boost your abilities.

Worldslayer’s additions are aimed at giving you more to do over the long term, like the addition of new PAX progression trees. Outriders already included three skill trees that allow you to unlock abilities for your character. You pick a class at the outset of the game, like Demolisher, which controls rocks and gravity, or Trickster, which is all about slowing enemies and teleportation, and then use the skill trees to further specialize with specific abilities or stat boosts. Wordslayer throws two more trees at you for each character, allowing you to specialize even further, or to cherrypick elements to build a character that conforms to a specific playstyle. You unlock skills and upgrades on the PAX trees with their own special PAX points, which you earn by progressing through the Worldslayer story.

But maybe the most interesting and meaningful addition to Outriders overall is the Apocalypse system, which upends the endgame as it’s been established up until now, and of which we only saw a brief glimpse. When Outriders launched, it included a system that let you set difficulty with “World Tiers” and “Challenge Tiers.” World Tiers were settings for the story campaign that gave you better loot as you turned up the difficulty; Challenge Tiers were a set of 15 additional difficulty tiers that kicked in during Expeditions, the endgame activity that followed the story. Apocalypse Tiers replace Challenge Tiers, expanding the optional difficulty tiers from 15 to 40.

Apocalypse Tiers add a lot of flexibility in making Outriders tougher to give you a reason to keep playing. You’ll be able to set your Apocalypse tier throughout all Outriders content, including the original campaign, and the payoff is in the loot. Apocalypse Tiers drop Apocalypse guns and armor, which is a new set of amped-up gear that’s even better than the best weapons and armor previously seen in Outriders. This big difference is the addition of a third modification slot to those weapons and armor–in the past, all Outriders gear topped out at two mod slots–which means Apocalypse gear is more customizable and will come with more unique perks. The best part of Outriders in the past were its ridiculous guns and armor with their own special perks, like my personal favorite, a shotgun that also causes meteors to fall out of the sky and hit your target. Expect Apocalypse loot to add even more weird, awesome elements like that.

In addition to your PAX progression, there’s also a new Ascension progression system to go along with the increased difficulty of the Apocalypse Tiers. Ascension kicks in after you’ve maxed out your character at level 30, the previous character peak from the Outriders campaign. After 30, you earn Ascension points that you can spend in various areas, which give you small but stacking boosts in four areas: Brutality, Endurance, Anomaly, and Prowess. Each of those categories has five subcategories into which you can bank points, giving you upgrades like boosts to your special attack damage or your overall health. Ascension theoretically allows for even greater specialization, with an aim at collecting all 200 Ascension points to give yourself significant boosts across the board–but People Can Fly says it’ll take a huge time investment to unlock them all, giving players something else to chase throughout the endgame.

The Worldslayer story campaign adds new enemies, and People Can Fly have teased a new endgame activity to keep you busy.

There’s also a new endgame activity to go with the Expeditions of the base game, but we don’t know anything about it yet. Called Trials of Tarya Gratar, it’s apparently completely different from the Expedition missions Outriders veterans have already seen. Square Enix and People Can Fly say more information about the endgame activity is headed our way in the coming months ahead of the expansion’s release.

The time I spent playing Worldslayer was a good reminder of what I liked about Outriders–fast-paced shooter combat that mixes taking cover and planning with busting out powerful, ridiculous superpowers and crushing enemies to recover health. The additions to the overall formula, like Apocalypse Tiers, Ascension Points, and PAX trees, all sound like significant improvements, but in practice we only got a small sampling of these. They’re the sorts of additions that snowball over time, starting off as incremental additions like buffing weapon damage by a couple percentage points, and slowly turning into meaningful ways to sculpt your play style as they pile up.

The opportunity to spend more time in the weird and expansive world of Outriders is a strong draw for Worldslayer, and all the new additions make it sound like People Can Fly has looked at its game and tried to identify ways to enhance all of it–the RPG, the story, and the loot shooter endgame. But we’ll have to see what those changes bring to the game overall, because while a snapshot is promising, it’s the whole of Worldslayer that’s going to reveal if this expansion brings the game what it needs to endure.

Nintendo has denied allegations made through a National Labor Relations Board filing that it fired a worker because of unionization efforts.

The worker’s charge, which was directed at both Nintendo and contracting firm Aston Carter, alleged that “the Employer discharged an employee(s) because the employee(s) joined or supported a labor organization and in order to discourage union activities and/or membership.” The approximate date for this firing is in 2022, which puts it within four months, though the filing says the charge is made for termination “within the previous six months.”

Additionally, the filing said Nintendo had fired the worker for discussing wages and other terms of their employment. It also alleges Nintendo “interfered with, restrained, and coerced its employees” by either surveilling union activities or creating the impression that it was.

In a statement to GameSpot, Nintendo denied that these were the reasons for the dismissal.

“We are aware of the claim, which was filed with the National Relations Board by a contractor who was previously terminated for the disclosure of confidential information and for no other reason,” Nintendo said. “Nintendo is not aware of any attempts to unionize or related activity and intends to cooperate with the investigation conducted by the NLRB. Nintendo is fully committed to providing a welcoming and supporting work environment for all our employees and contractors. We take matters of employment very seriously.”

The filing comes as there have been a wave of unionization efforts across the industry, including at Activision Blizzard. Following strikes and walkouts at the company, more than 1,000 QA workers were converted to full-time status and had their wages raised. However, this move excluded Raven Software’s QA department, which had largely been the catalyst for the move in the first place. Activision Blizzard claimed this was done for legal reasons, as a vote related to its unionization plans was expected at Raven.

Usually, someone telling you to take a trip to Hell would not be very nice. However, Mountain Dew is apparently not run by normal people. The brand’s Flamin’ Hot flavor is becoming the official drink of Hell. Well, technically it’s a town named Hell in Michigan, but that’s not important.

To celebrate the return of Mountain Dew Flamin’ Hot–which is a spicy version of the citrus soda–the brand is holding a party on April 30 from 3 PM HT (Hell Time) to midnight in Hell, Michigan. If you want to go to Hell, the official website has an interactive map to plan your route. Or you could just, like, litter a lot and not tip your servers at restaurants.

You wanna come with us to Hell…?
Well you’re in luck – Mtn Dew Flamin’ Hot® is becoming the official drink of Hell … Michigan.
You can join us. Just click the link below to start planning your road trip to Hell.https://t.co/aOLvPKBWDG pic.twitter.com/g0PKaN2kB4

— Mountain Dew® (@MountainDew) April 21, 2022

Not only will you be able to party with your fellow en-Dew-siasts, but you’ll also get to eat a menu prepared by rapper Action Bronson and listen to music from Pauly D of Jersey Shore fame. “Get” and “have” sound pretty similar here.

The trip checklist on the website mentions bringing a “poker,” presumably to fight off any demons you come across. Afterward, perhaps you can head down to Detroit for some of the city’s signature pizza, as it’s only about an hour away.

Flamin’ Hot soda in Hell is great and all, but what Mountain Dew really needs to bring back is the Berry Lime Game Fuel flavor (full sugar of course) from Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Considered the greatest soda of all time in a poll of one person, its delectable mix of lime and blue raspberry combined for both a refreshing and delicious sip.

Porting studio Aspyr Media has expressed interest in bringing the classic Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series to “new platforms”, provided that fans have enough interest in the property. When asked on Twitter if the Rogue Squadron series will get the same treatment that other Star Wars games got from the studio, Aspyr replied that it was open to the idea.

“For us, it’s all about the games we think players are most passionate about and would love to see brought to new platforms. If the demand is there, we’re on board,” the studio tweeted.

Here at Aspyr we’re huge Star Wars fans and love bringing Star Wars games to new audiences. For us, it’s all about the games we think players are most passionate about and would love to see brought to new platforms. If the demand is there, we’re on board

— Aspyr (@AspyrMedia) April 18, 2022

Aspyr has previously ported Star Wars: Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast, Star Wars: Episode I Racer, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to new platforms. The original Rogue Squadron was first released on the N64 and PC in 1998, and its sequel, Rogue Leader, was released on the GameCube in 2001.

Dedicated space combat games in the franchise have been something of a rarity as of late, although EA and Motive Studios did release the well-received Star Wars: Squadrons in 2020.

Another recent Star Wars game with some great space combat, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, is doing quite well. The latest Lego game has sold through 3.2 million units–that’s a lot of studs!–in its first two weeks, surpassing sales records set by previous games in the franchise helmed by developer TT Games.

Call of Duty Season 2 Reloaded is quickly coming to a close for both Vanguard and Warzone, and the season’s final weapon has been quietly added to Vanguard. The Ice Axe melee weapon is now available to unlock, and there are different ways you can unlock it.

How to unlock the Ice Axe

Skal Crusher Ice Axe blueprint

Season 2’s Ice Axe is a throwable melee weapon added to Call of Duty: Vanguard. This is described as a weapon that can be used in combat as both a melee weapon and a throwable weapon.

The Ice Axe can be unlocked for free with an in-game challenge in either Vanguard multiplayer or Zombies. A Warzone unlock challenge is not currently available, but it will likely be added to the game with a future update.

Like all other seasonal weapons, it should also be available to be purchased with a cosmetic bundle, but there aren’t any bundles currently available for the Ice Axe. A locked variant of the Ice Axe is currently showing in the menus as the Skal Crusher, which appears to be a fancy Norse version of the new weapon. The Skal Crusher will likely appear as part of a cosmetic bundle to purchase in the near future.

Multiplayer challenge

Ice Axe MP unlock challenge

In Vanguard multiplayer, the Ice Axe can be unlocked by getting 3 kills with the Throwing Knife in a single match 15 times. The Throwing Knife is retrievable lethal equipment that can be added to your custom loadout, and overall, the unlock challenge shouldn’t be terribly difficult for multiplayer. Attempting this challenge in small map playlists like Shipment 24/7 should help you complete your objective much faster.

Note: Vanguard’s multiplayer weapon unlocks require you to complete the matches to get credit towards your challenge progression. You can’t just get the three throwing knife kills and quit the match.

Zombies challenge

Ice Axe Zombies unlock challenge

In Zombies, use melee weapons to kill 50 Sturmkriegers. This is going to be more of a grind than the multiplayer challenge. Sturmkriegers are Vanguard’s heavily-armored Zombie type, who are armed with the Deathmachine minigun. This enemy type doesn’t spawn in abundance, so it will take some time to take down 50 of them.

In order to best take down the heavily armored Sturmkriegers, I’d recommend upgrading your preferred melee weapon with the Pack-a-Punch machine as soon as you have enough cash. Also, the Bloodlust Covenant can be really helpful to have equipped. Unfortunately, the Covenants you are offered for each match are random, but Bloodlust makes melee attacks do more damage and also heals you, so be sure to check your Covenant options each round. If you’re new to Vanguard Zombies, here is our complete guide to the Covenant feature.

Warzone challenge

The Ice Axe is not currently available in Warzone, but like all past Vanguard DLC weapons, it should be arriving to the battle royale. We’ll update the guide once the unlock challenge becomes available for Warzone.

How you choose to complete this challenge mostly depends on your game mode preference, but the overall fastest way to unlock the Ice Axe for free will be through Vanguard’s multiplayer challenge.

Season 2 Reloaded recently added the Armaguerra 43 submachine gun, and here is our guide for unlocking the Armaguerra 43 for use in Vanguard and Warzone. We also recommend some powerful weapon loadouts to try in your next match of Warzone.

The Apex Legends development team has tweeted out another teaser for the battle royale game, seemingly hinting at the introduction of BRD-01 Automated Infantry “Spectres” in Season 13. The mechanical soldiers may be appearing on Storm Point in response to the map being flooded and/or being attacked by something big.

As seen in the tweet embedded below, a security protocol is being activated on a computer on Storm Point. The protocol seems to imply the deployment of special loot bins, weapon racks, and Spectre troop containers to Storm Point–the latter further supported by a holographic picture of a Spectre head in the bottom-right corner of the computer screen.

This is under control. pic.twitter.com/KjYBVy7S4g

— Apex Legends (@PlayApex) April 20, 2022

Spectres are upgraded, militarized MRVN units, often seen fighting alongside Grunts and Pilots in Titanfall and Titanfall 2. More powerful than Grunts, Spectres can prove dangerous when in large numbers and tackled head-on. However, they are slow, making them easy to flank–they can also be hacked to fight alongside you.

Storm Point is the most heavily PvE-focused map in Apex Legends–it features both Prowlers and Spiders throughout–so seeing Spectres join the fray isn’t an outlandish idea. Their history as hackable soldiers does pose an interesting possibility though. If Spectres are coming to Apex Legends in Season 13, it’s possible that Respawn will design them in a way where they can be recruited to accompany your squad, giving you a leg up when fighting other teams.

So far, we’ve only seen Spectres in Apex Legends via cinematic trailers–first in the launch trailer for Season 5: Fortune’s Favor and then again in Stories from the Outlands: Fight Night. In the latter, they were shown to be far more aggressive and advanced in combat ability than what’s seen in the Titanfall games. So Spectres may have gotten a bit of an upgrade in the years since Titanfall 2.

It’s looking like Apex Legends Season 13 is kicking off in early May. Based on a giant apparent Apex Legends leak, Newcastle is likely the playable character to be added during the new season–I’m convinced Newcastle is actually Bangalore’s brother, Jackson Williams, as Newcastle was teased during Control when the mode returned for a limited time. However, there’s been no official word from Respawn regarding Season 13 yet.

Players looking to exercise some criminal creativity are in luck, as Deep Silver and Volition Entertainment have pulled back the curtain on the suite of customization options for the re-imagined Saints Row.

Players will be able to express their creativity through virtually every aspect of the game, from the main character and their lackeys to the cars, guns, and hideouts the Saints will be using throughout the game. The character creation suite offers a full set of options from changing the shape of individual body parts–every individual body part, as the trailer implies–to outfits (or lack thereof), face paint, tattoos, and more.

Each car the gang picks up throughout the game can be modified as well, from paint jobs to special parts. Whether it’s a souped-up sports car with LED-lit rims on the wheels that specializes in off-road driving or a minivan with rocket boosters on the back and bull horns on the hood, there will be plenty of options for auto-based additions.

Players will also be able to attach special items to each car, including a wrecking ball that will drag along the ground and take out enemy vehicles, or an ejector seat that lets them spring into action when arriving at a firefight.

Finally, as players collect an arsenal of weapons, they can take them back to their hideout and completely change the look and feel of each of them with dozens of decorations to choose from. The trailer, for example, shows a rocket launcher that’s been modified to come out of a guitar case a la Desperado, as well as dual pistols hidden inside novelty foam fingers.

The Saints Row customization trailer aired as part of a 20-minute livestream feature developers from Volition talking about the game. The new Saints Row launches August 23 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store. This is a full reboot of the open-world action series, with the last appearance being Saints Row IV back in August 2013.

The MMO Tera is shutting down, at least on PC. Developer Bluehole–which is now more famous for PUBG–has announced that it will stop development on the game and shift to other projects.

Publisher Gameforge relayed the news, saying in a statement that it would like to continue supporting Tera but it cannot do so without Bluehole.

“After careful deliberations, the developers of TERA (Bluehole) have unfortunately taken the difficult decision to end development of the game, as they feel that they are no longer able to provide the satisfying content that Tera players deserve,” Gameforge said. “Instead they would like to focus their internal development efforts on other projects. Gameforge has happily hosted a great community in TERA for almost 10 years now, and would have happily served players even longer, but without the support of the developers this is not feasible.”

The Adventure Ends
Unfortunately, we come bearing bad news: TERA’s developers, have decided to cease work on TERA. As the last remaining publisher, it is with a heavy heart that we must respect Bluehole’s decision, and will also have to shut down the game.https://t.co/LFaJU1fhDk pic.twitter.com/HwjPO1s9le

— TERA (@TERAonline) April 20, 2022

Tera will stop accepting new account sign-ups on May 31, 2022, which is also when the currency Tera Thalers will be deactivated. All Tera Club purchases will be deactivated on this date as well, while servers will officially go offline on June 30. Tera’s website, forums, and social media pages will also close after the servers go dark.

The FAQ only mentions PC, so it remains to be seen what will happen with Tera on console across PlayStation and Xbox. GameSpot has contacted the publisher in an attempt to get more details.

When the game first launched on PC in 2012, GameSpot gave it a 7.5/10 in our Tera review. Kevin VanOrd said the game followed the standard pattern for fantasy MMORPGs, having you complete quests and level up before heading to new areas; however, he said the combat was exceptional. “What a difference an excellent combat system makes, and in Tera’s case, it elevates an ordinary game into something more delightful than you would have expected from an MMOG,” he wrote. “It might be all about the fight, but when the fight is this much fun, you want to keep your axe arm swinging and your mouse finger clicking.”

The Nintendo Switch OLED is on sale for $325 at Woot right now. The deal applies to the white model Switch OLED and is only available today. If you’re interested in this deal, you’ll want to grab it as soon as possible.

Woot, an Amazon-owned retailer, offered this very same deal last week, but it sold out in minutes. It’s certainly possible that stock will run out before the promotion officially ends tonight.

Last week’s Switch OLED deal was the first discount we’ve ever seen on the Switch OLED, so while 25 bucks off doesn’t sound like a lot, this is the best deal you’ll likely find for quite some time. Woot’s deal comes with free shipping for Amazon Prime members arriving between April 27 and April 29.

In fact, it’s exceedingly rare to even see discounts on the regular Nintendo Switch, which launched more than five years ago.
