The second-to-last Steam sale of the year is now live. The Autumn Sale is on, and runs until November 29 at 10 am PT.
The Steam homepage is now decked out in some colorful autumnal art (it’s giving me a bit of a Little Nemo vibe), and it’s running concurrently with the annual Steam Awards (opens in new tab), which ask you to vote for a number of award categories. More on those below. First, to the deals.
Here are a few major sales from the Steam homepage:
If you want to vote in the Steam Awards, here are the categories this year:
Game of the year
VR game of the year
Labor of love
Better with friends
Outstanding visual style
Most innovative gameplay
Best game you suck at
Best soundtrack
Outstanding story-rich game
Sit back and relax
Best game on the go
There’s a Steam badge for voting in the GOTY awards, which “levels up” the more tasks you do. The tasks are pretty simple: nominate at least one game, nominate a game in every category, play a game you’ve nominated, and review a game you’ve nominated. You can edit your nominations, too, if you change your mind while the vote is ongoing—perhaps after playing something you picked up in the Autumn sale.

If you’re thinking about going wireless for your next PC headset, then think about this: The Steelseries Arctis 7X (opens in new tab) 2.4GHz wireless headset is an outstanding piece of no cords audio hardware, and right now, you can pick it up for the outstanding price of just $90 (opens in new tab)—that’s 40% off the regular price.
The Arctis 7X is an update to its also-excellent predecessor, the Arctis 7, that adds compatibility with Xbox consoles, something the original was lacking. For those who like to game on the go, it’ll also hook up with your Android devices and Nintendo Switch as well. It promises to deliver highly detailed lossless audio through its 2.4GHz wireless connection, with a range of up to 40 feet and 24-hour battery life—rechargeable, of course. The retractable ClearCast bidirectional microphone is “Discord certified (opens in new tab),” which means that the good folks at Discord put it through some tests and then threw it the thumbs-up.
We put it through some tests ourselves when the 7X debuted in 2020 and found that it absolutely lived up to the hype. It maintains the ski goggle headband and AirWave ear cushions used across the Arctis lineup, making it “one of the most comfortable gaming headsets, period,” and the headset drivers provide “these have some of the cleanest game audio on any gaming headset” we’ve tested.
“The clarity and separation is pin sharp making everything stand out clearly, especially in games,” we wrote in our 90% review (opens in new tab). “Positional accuracy is excellent, making it easy to pinpoint where audio cues are coming from, even amid the action. This is great for competitive shooters where there’s lots of gunfire.
“The Arctis 7X retains everything that was great about the Arctis 7 and easily replaces it on our list of best wireless headsets. It’s got stellar audio performance, a great microphone, and is supremely comfortable. But it’s the sheer versatility that makes it truly shine.”
I’ve been thinking about going wireless myself: I currently have an Arctis 3 Bluetooth, which I very much like, and for 90 bucks, you better believe I’m giving the Arctis 7X a hard look.

Sometimes you need a headset that can do it all, and I’ve been finding the Razer Barracuda to be the perfect solution for me. If you’re after a wireless headset that can be used across all your gadgets and gizmos, now is the best time to nab the Barracuda over on Amazon with a nice £50 discount, bringing it down to £108.49 (opens in new tab).
It’s the more expensive cousin of the Barracuda X (opens in new tab)—which is also available in the Black Friday sale in both black and quartz pink, and is perfect if you want a cheaper headset with better microphone performance at the sacrifice of Bluetooth. That cheaper option will set you back £55.99 (opens in new tab) But as an iPhone user, I’ve been loving how easy it is for me to switch between numerous devices with the standard Barracuda headset.
I’ve been using the headset wired with my PC thanks to the 3.5mm cable included. When I’m done with work and heading off to the gym, I’ve been going wireless and connecting to my iPhone to jam to some music while I lift. The Barracuda doesn’t look quite as ‘gamer-y’ as Razer’s other offerings which I’ve found really lends to their versatility. While music can get a little muddied in these, they’ve been great for getting me through workouts and blocking out the incredibly loud gym classes happening across the room. The Barracuda also has Razer Synapse capabilities with the option to tweak the EQ on your phone for a more tailored listening experience.
I’ve even been using the Barracuda on both my PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch thanks to the included USB Type-C dongle for 2.4GHz connections. My Steam Deck FOMO has led to me playing a bunch of my Switch in bed lately, so I’ve been making good use of the Barracuda headset for games like Splatoon 3 and Animal Crossing so I can hear what I’m doing. It’s been nice to have such a flexible headset that I can use across all of my regular devices, and the 40-hour battery life means I can flit between each gadget for a few days before they need to be charged.
If the £100 price point is still a bit out of your budget, there are a ton of other cheap Black Friday gaming headset deals (opens in new tab) happening across all corners of the internet.

Darktide Curios are a lot like talismans from the Vermintide series, letting you buff certain stats, reduce particular damage types, and just generally add a little buildcrafting element that you can tweak towards your playstyle. Though the Darktide pre-order beta doesn’t feature crafting right now, you can still get Curios and equip them to your Reject.
If you’re just starting out in the beta, you might want help choosing a class, to check out some Darktide tips, or learn about how to change your appearance. Either way, here’s how Curios works in Darktide, as well as the best way to get them in the game.
How do Darktide Curios work?
You can buy Curios at the Requisitorium (Image credit: Fatshark)
Curios grant stat boosts that can help you deal with the unrelenting hordes and specials that Darktide throws at you. So far, the pre-order beta Curios seem to buff toughness, health, stamina, or your number of wounds as a primary. If you get a rarer blue Curio instead of a green, it will also grant a secondary buff such as experience, damage reduction against specific enemy types, Curio drop chance, or corruption resistance for carrying Grimoires.
In Vermintide 2, orange rarity talismans and above also featured a trait, but as far as I can tell, there are currently no orange Curios in the Darktide pre-order beta. In terms of the best Curios to equip, I’d say that getting an extra wound is a must. Darktide’s wounds are effectively lives, where if you get downed then revived, one wound will become corrupted, lowering your overall health. More wounds means less HP lost when you are revived. Speaking of health, buffing max HP is also far better than buffing toughness since 10% toughness represents less damage absorption than 10% HP does. It’s also easy to regen toughness just by being close to allies or killing enemies.
How to get Darktide Curios
Image 1 of 2
Curio drop chance is a great stat if you want more of them (Image credit: Fatshark)
You can also get Curios from Sire Melk, though I don’t recommend it (Image credit: Fatshark)
Your first Curio slot unlocks at trust level eight, with subsequent unlocks at level 16 and 24. This will also unlock Curios for purchase at the Requisitorium. What Curios are available for sale is pretty random, so if you want a particular perk combo, you may have to check back between shop resets. Another good way to get Curios is to stack the ones that feature a Curio drop chance. Unlike in Vermintide 2, where you can only combine certain talismans, Darktide lets you stack whichever you please.
If you find three Curios with a 15% Curio drop chance, you can get a 45% chance of getting a Curio instead of the weapon that sometimes drops at the end of missions. Considering the weapons you get from missions seem pretty substandard to those you can just buy in the shop, I’d recommend having Curio drop chance equipped all the time. You can also get random Curios from Sire Melk’s Requisitorium at trust level 11, but considering this costs valuable currency you could use to get orange weapons, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Mirroring the culture wars being fought on virtually every medium available these days, Tripwire Interactive co-founder John Gibson blamed what he called “social terrorism” for being forced out as CEO of the developer and publisher in 2021. His comments came during an appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight, in which he said his ouster from the company he helped launch in 2005 left him “destroyed.”
“[Social terrorism] is an effort to use fear and intimidation to cause people to change,” Gibson said. “Either hide or pretend that they’re not what they are, really, so that they can keep their jobs, so they can keep their status. And I just think that’s just a terrible thing for the world.”
Gibson stepped down as chief executive (opens in new tab) of Tripwire shortly after tweeting support for an abortion ban in September 2021. He claims in this interview that he wasn’t the only person on Tripwire’s leadership team with anti-abortion views, and that one woman in a “fairly senior” position was opposed to his ouster. According to Gibson, she opted not to speak out in his defense because she was “outnumbered” and didn’t want to end up in the same position he was.
“That’s how this social terrorism works,” Gibson said. “You make people scared, you make their jobs more difficult, you make them worry that people are going to leave the company if they don’t throw the person who disagreed with their political positions out of the boat. And so she really couldn’t overcome the wave of sentiment of the other folks.
“And then the other people that agreed, they’re afraid to speak up. They don’t want to be next. I had one of the other owners of the company, politically we’re very very aligned. He thinks cancel culture is bad, he thinks abortion is bad, and he said, ‘Yeah, I don’t want to be cancelled next.'”
Tripwire Interactive’s best-known games are Killing Floor, Killing Floor 2, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, and Maneater. In 2021, it published Torn Banner Studios’ multiplayer medieval action game Chivalry 2. PC Gamer reached out to Tripwire for comment on these statements but did not receive a reply in time for publication.
In 2021 Gibson tweeted support for the Texas Heartbeat Act (opens in new tab), a law that bans abortion following the detection of fetal cardiac activity—typically about six weeks after conception. The law also allows any private citizen to sue anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion beyond that point for a minimum of $10,000. Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, called the ban “heinous,” saying that people “who already face the largest barriers to accessing health care, will be most harmed by this law.”
“As an entertainer I don’t get political often,” Gibson tweeted last year. “Yet with so many vocal peers on the other side of this issue, I felt it was important to go on the record as a pro-life game developer.”
The 2021 statement sparked an immediate backlash from Twitter followers including original Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski (opens in new tab) and God of War director Cory Barlog (opens in new tab). Other game studios also weighed in: Chivalry 2 developer Torn Banner Studios said Gibson’s statement “stands in opposition to what we believe about women’s rights,” while Shipwright Studios, which had worked with Tripwire as a co-developer on games including Chivalry 2 and Maneater, cut ties with the company completely (opens in new tab). A few days later, Tripwire apologized for the comments, saying they “do not reflect those of Tripwire Interactive as a company,” and announced that Gibson had been replaced by co-founder and vice president Alan Wilson.
Gibson said in a statement sent to PC Gamer that he volunteered to step down as CEO a few days after the tweet because of internal pressure from some employees, as well as negative coverage on social media and in the press.
“This created an untenable situation with the ‘least bad’ solution being that we would sell the company and I would leave Tripwire completely,” Gibson said. “While I remained a board member during this time, I functionally left the position of CEO and remained with the company in an unspecified role and as the largest single shareholder until Tripwire was sold to Embracer.” Gibson declined to clarify what position he held at the studio after stepping down as CEO.
Gibson also revealed that the situation at Tripwire was made even worse after “people on the extreme right called in hundreds of death threats” in opposition to his ouster as CEO. “Those death threats from the right made an already extremely challenging situation between me and the company a nearly impossible one,” Gibson said.
At the time of his resignation, Gibson said in a statement that Tripwire’s owners and executives “acted with class” and “professionalism” and that they treated him “with great care and dignity” in the days leading up to his departure, and more recently tweeted that he “never got booted (opens in new tab),” remained employed by the studio for a year longer, and then helped broker the sale of the company to Embracer Group earlier this year. He painted a very different picture during his interview on Fox, however, telling him that the experience “destroyed” him and left him suicidal for a time.
“Words can hardly convey how crushed I was,” Gibson said. “Everyone that works puts a little bit of themselves into something, or maybe a lot. When you’re doing something like this, that’s a passion, something you used to do for free, and you just absolutely love it—you spent 20 years, 25 years of your life, crafting your skillset, and you’re at the top of your game, and you love what you do every day, you just love coming into work and making people happy. We were making, sure, millions of fans happy, but also, the company would take 10 percent of our profits and divide it up amongst employees. And there was a lot of profit.
“People were out buying cars and houses, and I would see people coming into work smiling and happy, and I just loved having a job where I got to make, not just the public happy, but the employees happy. And to have that all destroyed, to feel like—I shared something with my wife, I’ll tell you what I said to her. I said, I just want to die. Because I don’t want to live in a world that’s this unjust. Yeah, I got depressed, I got of course angry, suicidal. Not wanting to leave the house. It destroyed me. And I have lived through 13 months of hell.”
Gibson told PC Gamer that his goal in speaking out is to “put a human face” on his experience and encourage an end to political extremism and destructiveness, which he clearly blames on “liberal” interests.
“I’m speaking out not to push back on my former company, but to raise awareness with a hope that in the future some people will pause and consider before going after people on social media because it can ruin someone’s life,” Gibson said. “I want to encourage people to think if they would want something like this to happen to their father, sister, child, or to themselves. It is important that we get back to balance on both ends of the political spectrum and have dialogue on important topics without rage and malice. The alternative is we continue to get more polarized and things get worse for us all.
“Currently, most conservatives will work with any liberal, but the same is not true the other direction. Everyone should have the right to work without losing their livelihoods because of their political viewpoints or their excising their free speech right to share those viewpoints. “
The conservative talk show Tucker Carlson Tonight airs nightly on Fox, and is one of the highest rated shows (opens in new tab) on television. Its host is well-known for espousing white supremacist views, including promoting the “great replacement (opens in new tab)” theory and that the US is being “invaded” by immigrants and refugees, most recently from the war the US started in Afghanistan (opens in new tab). Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Nicholas Confessore of the New York Times said in a recent NPR (opens in new tab) interview that Tucker Carlson Tonight “may be the most racist show in the history of cable news.”

The 40th Golden Joystick Awards take place today and, after over three million public votes have been cast over 18 categories, we’ll find out which games get the gongs. The show will be hosted by actors Laura Bailey and Troy Baker (Abby and Joel in The Last of Us, respectively), and you can watch the whole thing on Twitch, YouTube and GamesRadar+ at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET / 8 pm GMT.
The Golden Joystick Awards are run by PC Gamer’s parent company, Future.
The Golden Joysticks is the longest running awards show in the industry, and the show will feature guest appearance and previous winners from across the gaming world, as well as new trailers and announcements. Finally, to cap the whole thing off, there’ll be a special video celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Golden Joystick Awards.
Among the favourites are of course Elden Ring: nominated in four categories including Best Multiplayer Game and Best Visual Design, with developer FromSoftware Inc. also nominated for Studio of the Year. Can anything stop the foul tarnished? There are plenty of other big shiny games trying, including Horizon Forbidden West, Splatoon 3, Final Fantasy XIV and Teardown.

As you begin exploring the new Valheim Mistlands biome, one of the first things you’ll spot through the thick, dense mists are glowing blue lights. When you reach one you’ll discover it’s a blue torch or blue lamp, a small glowing orb built by some of the Mistlands’ inhabitants to provide visibility through the mist. You can’t just take these blue lights, and if you destroy the orbs will disappear. But you can craft your own.
The blue lights in the Mistlands are called Wisp torches, and you’ll want to craft some as soon as possible because they burn away the mist in their immediate radius. The good news is, if you’ve already defeated Valheim’s fifth boss, Yagluth, you probably already have a component stored in a chest at your base that will help you craft Wisp torches. Remember how Yagluth dropped useless, placeholder “Yagliuth things” when you beat him? Those things are no longer useless, they’re part of the process of crafting Wisp torches.
How to craft blue Wisp torches in Valheim’s Mistlands
If you’re already in the Mistlands, start chopping down any small trees you see. Many of the Mistland’s trees are actually offshoots of the Yggdrasil itself, labeled as “Yggdrasil shoots” when you stand close to them. To chop down a Yggdrasil shoot, you’ll need a Blackmetal Axe. When you’ve collected your first piece of Yggdrasil wood, you’ll unlock the recipe for Wisp torches, located in your build menu’s furniture tab (they’re not handheld torches, but standing torches).
The crafting recipe for Wisp torches is:
How to get Wisp
Here’s a refreshing twist on resource gathering: you don’t have to go out into the world to find Wisp. Instead, it comes to you. You just need to lure it with a new buildable item.
To lure Wisp, you’ll need to build an object called a Wisp fountain, which can be placed at your base. And to unlock the recipe for the Wisp fountain, you’ll need one torn spirit.
How to get torn spirits
Here’s where the formerly useless “Yagluth things” come into play. The Mistlands update renames them “torn spirits” and makes them useful. Go search through your chests if you’ve already collected Yagluth’s drops. Otherwise, you’ll have to defeat this boss to collect torn spirits. (You can find some tips in our Valheim boss guide.) Once you’ve picked up a torn spirit, you’ll get the recipe for a Wisp fountain, found in your build menu under crafting.
Here’s the Wisp Fountain crafting recipe:
The stonecutter requirement means you’ll need to build the Wisp fountain within range of the stonecutter at your base (or place a new stonecutter). Once you’ve built and placed your Wisp fountain, you’ll need to wait until nighttime to see it start working.
When it’s dark enough, Wisp (they look like small, glowing blue orbs) will fly to the fountain and begin slowly circling it. You can pluck Wisp right out of the air while it’s circling your fountain, or wait a while and it’ll drop down to the ground and just sit there. As long as it’s dark enough, new Wisp will continue to visit your fountain.
With Wisp and Yggdrasil wood in your inventory, enter build mode with your hammer and click to place your Wisp torches in the Mistlands, then watch the mist around them melt away.

There will no doubt be Cyber Monday gaming keyboard and mouse deals still live by the time Monday, November 28 comes around. There are already a host of Black Friday gaming keyboad and mouse deals (opens in new tab) around week, but there will be plenty left over, and fresh discounts popping up throughout the November deals season.
Cyber Monday should help us round off deals season with a bang. Indeed, it’s never been a better time to upgrade your gaming mouse (opens in new tab) or gaming keyboard since we’re seeing unprecedented deals on some of our favorite gaming peripherals right now.
Unlike a CPU or graphics card, these accessories can’t grant you a higher frame rate, but they can make every single interaction with your PC more accurate, sturdier, and just an all-round more pleasant experience.
Essentially, the best gaming keyboard (opens in new tab) and mouse will utterly transform your setup. Whether you’re matching them by color, RGB synchronization, or simply their gaming prowess, there’s a combination out there for you. While mice are getting super light, and polling rates are on the rise, mechanical keyboards are also upping their game. Wireless tech, too, is becoming ever more affordable, so if you’re still rocking a cheap board and rodent, it’s well worth treating your fingers to an upgrade with good battery life and some other fancy features.
We’ve focused on gaming keyboards and mice that are actually quality options here, and are on sale significantly below their usual prices. Below you’ll find only the best peripherals from brands like Corsair, Logitech, Razer, Drop, and Das Keyboards, all with great discounts to clear away that Cyber Monday haze.
When is Cyber Monday 2022?
Cyber Monday is set for November 28, 2022, trawling Black Friday like a lovesick puppy. The temptation is to look at Cyber Monday like the unwanted sibling of Black Friday, with just the dregs left on offer. But while it’s still going to be tough to get the goods shipped ahead of Christmas, retailers will often have a stock of great deals set aside for Cyber Monday.
Cyber Monday also kicks off Cyber Week, where you may find a bunch of other deals on PC hardware to stretch out the sales season.

What should I look out for in a Cyber Monday gaming keyboard or mouse?
For starters, most of the top gaming keyboards use mechanical switches, and so too do the top gaming mice, for that matter. These differ from the usual membrane construction you’ll find on cheaper keyboards, and that means greater responsiveness, reliability, and generally a nicer feel. Beyond that, gaming keyboards offer plenty of nice-to-have features, such as RGB lighting, media control keys, macro keys, USB passthrough, wireless connectivity, and much more.
When it comes to gaming mice, you’re looking more at the sensor that tracks your movements on your mouse pad. A good sensor will offer zero acceleration, track you accurately, and be able to withstand you throwing the mice hither and thither. Combined with a comfortable shape, you’re looking at a winner.
Throw in a cheaper price on top of all of those great features, and you have a keyboard or rodent set to last many years.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players are at it again. Not content with defying both divine and natural law with MW2’s superman trick (opens in new tab), they’ve now developed a frustrating and nightmarish movement technique they’re calling the “G Walk,” which turns them into some kind of speedy, barely-targetable primate. You can see what I mean below.
Originally spotted by Jake Lucky on Twitter (opens in new tab), the trick appears to let players alternate between a prone and standing position without any of that tedious ‘animation’ business in-between, which has the unnerving effect of making them look like quadrupedal beasts loping towards you at a million miles per hour. As you can imagine, it also makes them pretty difficult to target with your limited human appendages.
Although you can mark me down as ‘strongly in favour’ of this kind of glitch-based lunacy in major multiplayer games, not everyone has taken to the G Walk with quite the same enthusiasm. While some players find it amusing (and some are desperately trying to replicate the glitch themselves), a lot of people are irritated by these antics. More than a few of the replies to Lucky’s tweet come from people bemoaning the fact that people aren’t playing the game properly, or worried that the trick will start ruining their matches.
To be fair, they have a point, and I don’t doubt that this glitch is already on a to-do list somewhere for a future patch to MW2. Still, it’s hard not to be a bit amused when your opponent, decked head-to-toe in hi-tech military gear, suddenly hunkers down on all fours and starts bounding toward you like a werewolf on a full moon. We’ll miss it when it’s gone.

Every day Wordle presents you with six rows of five boxes, and it’s up to you to work out which secret five-letter word is hiding inside them.
You’ll want to start with a strong word (opens in new tab) like ALERT—something containing multiple vowels, common consonants, and no repeat letters. Hit Enter and the boxes will show you which letters you’ve got right or wrong. If a box turns ⬛️, it means that letter isn’t in the secret word at all. 🟨 means the letter is in the word, but not in that position. 🟩 means you’ve got the right letter in the right spot.
You’ll want your second go to compliment the first, using another “good” word to cover any common letters you missed last time while also trying to avoid any letter you now know for a fact isn’t present in today’s answer.
After that it’s just a case of using what you’ve learned to narrow your guesses down to the right word. You have six tries in total and can only use real words (so no filling the boxes with EEEEE to see if there’s an E). Don’t forget letters can repeat too (ex: BOOKS).
If you need any further advice feel free to check out our Wordle tips (opens in new tab), and if you’d like to find out which words have already been used you’ll find those below.
Originally, Wordle was dreamed up by software engineer Josh Wardle (opens in new tab), as a surprise for his partner who loves word games. From there it spread to his family, and finally got released to the public. The word puzzle game has since inspired tons of games like Wordle (opens in new tab), refocusing the daily gimmick around music or math or geography. It wasn’t long before Wordle became so popular it was sold to the New York Times for seven figures (opens in new tab). Surely it’s only a matter of time before we all solely communicate in tricolor boxes.
