Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches on November 16 with the start of Modern Warfare 2: Season 1, and the game launches with Call of Duty’s new DMZ extraction mode. Activision has been light on the details, but content creators were able to livestream gameplay of DMZ during a reveal event on November 9. Here we break down everything we learned about DMZ from the event.

DMZ Mode Explained

Activision’s official description of the mode says, “DMZ is an open-world, narrative-focused extraction mode where Operator squads have free rein to complete faction-based missions, take on additional side objectives, engage with enemy Operators or AI combatants, and search for valuable items, all while fighting to survive toward exfiltration.”

Now Playing: COD Warzone 2.0 New Gulag & Map Explained | GameSpot News

The new DMZ mode seems to be Call of Duty’s take on the extraction shooter genre, with players dropping in as trios on Warzone’s Al Mazrah map to loot, fight, and extract. There are objectives players can complete for XP and cash, and players have the choice of how they want to play. They can just drop into a match for looting, they can choose to look for gunfights, or try to complete specific objectives.

Just like other extraction shooters like Escape From Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown, players can keep all the weapons and loot earned from a successful extraction, while also losing everything if they die before extraction.

Uses Warzone 2.0 features

Players can expect DMZ to utilize many features and mechanics from Warzone 2.0. This includes the new Stronghold locations on Al Mazrah. Looting and scavenging keys will let players access the high-tier loot found within the locked Stronghold buildings. There are several Stronghold locations on the map, and each key is assigned to a specific Stronghold. Players have the choice to enter the Stronghold and clear out any AI opponents for random high-tier loot, or the keys can be sold at Buy Stations for cash.

Modern Warfare 2’s AI enemies are found all throughout the map. There are recruit (easy) level AIs that can be found scattered around in buildings and various locations, but AI near Strongholds or objective areas are often armored and much more challenging to fight.

There’s also a backpack system in DMZ, and players start with a small pack that holds five items. However, larger backpacks can be scavenged or purchased from Buy Stations. This lets players store valuables such as items needed for objectives or random junk with price tags that can be sold for cash. These items include things like food, comic books, batteries, and tools. Some tools appear to be useful, but it’s unclear how many will have uses beyond just looting for cash. However, drills can be looted and used to open safes, which usually contain tons of cash and useful items like UAVs.

There’s a big emphasis on scoring tons of money in DMZ, and it’s likely because high-tier items at the Buy Station cost large sums of cash. The Advanced UAV streak, which reveals all players on the map for a limited time, costs $12,000 per streak. Upgrading to a medium backpacks cost $5,000, and two-plate armored vests cost $7,500.

DMZ also gives full use of all of Al Mazrah’s vehicles, which no longer have unlimited fuel capacity. Players will need to refuel vehicles with scavenged gas cans or at gas stations to keep rolling through a match.

There’s a new interrogation feature in both modes. This works much like the operator ability for Caveira in Rainbow Six Siege, where knocking an opponent will let a player “interrogate” them to reveal the location of their squadmates on the map.

Additionally, there is one thing that seems exclusive to DMZ. Players can revive eliminated squadmates at their death location at any time in the match. Dead teammates are marked as a blue health icon, and there is no time limit or any additional steps needed to return teammates to the match.

The reveal event didn’t really showcase the overall rewards and long-term incentives for playing DMZ and having successful extractions. However, Activision did announce more information will be revealed ahead of next week’s launch.

Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 is bringing plenty of new content and changes, including an overhauled battle pass and a major change to the seasonal Prestige system. Call of Duty is also bringing three of the world’s most famous soccer/football players to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, with the Modern Warfare FC event beginning after the launch of Season 1.

When solo developer Ashley Ellis told me that he wanted Hellbreach: Vegas (opens in new tab) to be a throwback, a celebration of the arcade simplicity of Call of Duty’s beloved zombies mode, that’s when it really clicked for me. Hellbreach is all about the simple pleasure of looking down iron sights at a zombie-adjacent demon-type dude and deleting it. If you find yourself doing so on a Discord call with three friends from high school, all the better.

I couldn’t quite put my finger on it when I first took an early build of Hellbreach for a spin, but it absolutely nails the feel of an Xbox 360-era CoD Zombies mode. The starting character has the same doofy, Duke Nukemy, Russian-accented one liners as Black Ops standby Nikolai Belinsk. The maps have that same feel as CoD Zombies, with these tight rings of rooms with little room to maneuver, helping to distinguish Hellbreach from fellow wave survival shooter Killing Floor.

The second phase of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s pre-patch is right around the corner, and Blizzard has now revealed the official patch notes ahead of the update’s arrival on November 15.

As previously announced, phase two of the pre-patch update will introduce Dracthyr Evokers, the game’s new race (that is also a class). Players will be able to play through the Dracthyr starter zone so that they are ready to dive into Dragonflight proper come launch day on November 28.

Now Playing: Why Now Is the Time to Jump into World of Warcraft and Play Dragonflight

The patch will also include a revamped version of a classic WoW dungeon, Uldaman, alongside a new Primal Storms event that tasks players with completing quests and world events as they look to fend off attacks from the Primalists and their elementals.

Though the previous pre-patch update introduced the new talent tree revamp and user interface changes, the phase two update will further refine both. Icons for some class talents will be changed to prevent confusion and duplicate icons within a talent tree, and numerous balance changes and bug fixes are slated to come to the game’s various classes both in PvE and PvP. Mousing over a talent will highlight where it is on a player’s action bar come the update, and in general, talents should be a little more readable.

On the UI front, players will be happy to know that the silver dragon portrait for rare elite mobs is making a comeback after being removed last update, as is the ability to track profession trainers using the minimap’s filter options.

One major feature being removed with phase two of the Dragonflight pre-patch is the Threads of Fate leveling option from the game’s Shadowlands expansion. The feature was added part way through Shadowlands as a means of providing players more freedom when it came to leveling up alternate characters during the expansion without having to play through the linear storyline of Shadowlands multiple times.

As Blizzard states in the patch notes, with the level cap for Chromie Time (the system Blizzard uses to allow players to choose which past expansions they want to play through as part of their leveling journey) being raised to 60, players will have more options when it comes to leveling, making Threads of Fate less important. Keeping Threads of Fate would mean making Chromie Time far more complicated, as Threads of Fate effectively makes it so that there are two different ways to experience Shadowlands instead of one.

Though characters who already started leveling with the Threads of Fate system will still have access to it, it will no longer be available for all characters come November 15. Blizzard makes clear, however, that it does not have plans to remove a system similar to Threads of Fate, called Adventure Mode, coming in Dragonflight.

The full patch notes for phase two of the Dragonflight pre-patch are below.

They’ll awake from their slumber in the Forbidden Reach, where they’ll take up their training to join the forces of dragonkind in the defense of the isles. [LEARN MORE]

QUESTS

  • Removed the ability for players who have not started Threads of Fate to access the system.
    • Developers’ note: The goal with Threads of Fate was to help alleviate the linear path of Shadowlands for alts as it was the only way for players to level from 50 to 60. Now that Shadowlands has been moved into Chromie time and Chromie Time’s level cap has been increased to 60, players have a multitude of methods to reach level 60. Players currently in Threads of fate can continue through it, but the option will not be available for any new characters.
We do not have plans to do similar removals with Dragonflight’s Adventure Mode in future expansions. Threads of Fate is a choice to use in Shadowlands and irreversibly changes a player’s character once it is chosen. It previously created two different experiences of Shadowlands, which would double to four with both of the level up and Threads of Fate being accessible within Chromie time. Adventure Mode in Dragonflight is an overlay to the level up experience and is always on once it is earned regardless of decisions the player makes.

With winter closing in for the chill, now is a good time to start preparing for the cold months that lie ahead. There’s nothing cozier than a warm blanket and a mug of your favorite hot beverage, and adding a book only makes things better. Over on Amazon, you can score a number of great books detailing the history of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series at an exceptional discount as part of Amazon’s current B2G1 free sale.

Each book has received a big price reduction, but as an added bonus, you can buy two of them and get the third book for free. Or technically, buy three books, and the cheapest one in your basket will be free (Amazon spreads the discount across all three times). The items on offer include the expanded edition guide to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a 512-page hardcover guidebook that covers everything in the main 2017 game as well as the two Expansion Pass DLC packs.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild -- Creating a Champion deluxe edition
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild — Creating a Champion deluxe edition

The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia $25.83 – ($40)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild–Creating a Champion $27.12 – ($40)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild–Creating a Champion Hero’s Edition $57 – ($100)

Then there’s The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia, a 320-page book that covers everything from the original Legend of Zelda up to Twilight Princess HD and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Creating a Champion, which contains artwork, interviews, and an in-depth history of the Hyrule of Breath of the Wild. Finally, there’s a Hero’s Edition of Creating a Champion available, which packages the book in a deluxe slipcase edition, and includes an exclusive cover, a map of Hyrule printed on cloth, an art print of the Champions’ photo Link hangs in his home, and a glass replica of a spirit orb.

As part of Fanatical’s 10th Birthday Bash celebration this month, the retailer is running a special mystery bundle deal where you can pay what you want for a grab bag of mystery PC games.

The bundle is offered on a sliding scale, starting at one game key for $1 and up to 10 keys for $7. Since you’re purchasing random mystery keys, there’s no way to tell which games you’ll get. The store description says you could unwrap “everything from the biggest and best games from AAA publishers to awesome indie games and hidden gems.”

If you’ve purchased other recent mystery bundles, please know there’s a chance you’ll get games you already have. The terms also say that “if you buy one bundle of 1-10 games in a single order, you will receive different games,” but it’s possible you could end up with duplicate keys if you buy multiple bundles.

Along with the mystery games, you also get the usual 5% off coupon to use on future purchases. There’s a chance you could also find one of ten $100 spending spree coupons you can use to buy more games from Fanatical. Those are admittedly slim chances, but an extra $100 to spend on more games is an awesome perk if you’re lucky enough to score one.

Head over to Fanatical to try your luck with the Birthday Mystery Bundle, and check out the retailer’s many other 10th Birthday Bash deals, including a free game offer and this bundle of 5 Steam games for $15.

What a difference an X makes. AMD has announced two graphics cards intent on high frame rates at 4K: the Radeon RX 7900 XT and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX (opens in new tab). In name, only a letter differentiates one from the other, and there’s not much between them when it comes to the price, either—at $899 and $999, respectively. You could then assume we’re looking at merely a clock speed bump and a handful of cores for the extra money between the two, but then you’d be wrong.

Neither graphics card is available to buy yet—both will arrive on December 13. Yet even so it’s clear that the XTX is extremely likely to become the more sought after card.

Two Point Campus (opens in new tab), the academically-focused sequel to the medical management sim Two Point Hospital, is getting mod support. A release date hasn’t been set but developer Two Point Studios said that it hopes to begin beta testing mod support on Steam “very soon.”

Two Point Hospital also has mod support, but the studio said that it’s aiming for more powerful and flexible options in Two Point Campus.

Black November, as we’re now calling it, leading up to the actual Black Friday weekend, is the best time of year to secure yourself a brand new gaming mouse or mechanical keyboard. There are deals flying around this time of year, with the likes of SteelSeries, Razer, and Logitech all looking to shift the latest gear, from keyboards with the latest optical switches to wireless mice with absurdly high DPIs.

Why not indulge yourself? After all, your mouse and keyboard are the most important pair of peripherals you’ll use for PC gaming. If not for yourself, these items make for an excellent gift for the PC gamer in your life. This stuff doesn’t come cheap, so seeing a zippy ambidextrous mouse or beautiful keyboard with some Cherry switches for half-off its retail price always puts a smile on my face.

With Black Friday approaching,, now might be the time to treat your ears, or the ears of a loved one, with a fabulous pair of cans. No matter the style or budget, expect to see all sorts of gaming headsets getting hit with genuine discounts from all the usual suspects, such as SteelSeries, HyperX, Logitech, and Razer. And if this Black Friday is anything like last year, expect to see some great headsets selling for as little as $30.

When you’re shopping around, however, it pays to keep a couple of things in mind. It is crucial for gamers playing online to ensure it comes with a microphone that doesn’t sound like you are broadcasting from a World War 2 submarine. Your buddies will thank you. Directional audio has also gotten so much better over the years, so it’s something to keep a look out for if you’re after a little competitive edge. Not only will it help pinpoint footsteps in games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (opens in new tab), but it adds a level of tension in slower, more atmospheric games like Scorn (opens in new tab) and Resident Evil.

Noblechairs just hit us with some new additions to its line of gaming chairs. Combining the style of the Noblechairs Epic, with the shape of the Icon, and topping it off with the Hero’s built in lumbar support, the Noblechairs Legend is now available for purchase on the Noblechairs store (opens in new tab), from a whopping $639 (£420).

That’s the price of the least expensive of the three, the Noblechairs Legend TX Series. Up from that is the White Edition coming in at $669 (£450), and the Black Edition at $690 (£460). All of them are built around a super curvy, race-car inspired design and compared to some of the sharper looking designs of the past, these are really pushing the cozy look.

There are obvious improvements over the Hero currently sitting in our best gaming chairs (opens in new tab) guide, such as the reduction of those superfluous winged sides that really just served to make the thing bulkier and more awkward looking, in my opinion.
