Keep your Wordle win streak safe and sound, however you’d like to go about it. Keep on scrolling and you’ll find general tips to help you make the most of every guess, a fresh hint for the December 20 (914) Wordle, and as always, today’s answer. Hey, everyone needs a helping hand from time to time.

Well, at least I got there in the end—and with a row to spare, too. I’m in no danger of impressing anyone with my guesses today, but my persistence in the face of a relentless tide of grey letters did eventually pay off. Let’s hope tomorrow’s Wordle is a little more straightforward though, I wouldn’t object to a nice, quick, win someday soon.

As 2023 rapidly draws to a close, Blizzard has shared its World of Warcaft and WoW Classic plans for 2024, which will include three more content updates before The War Within expansion arrives in late summer (or maybe early fall), and on the Classic side, a not-too-distant beta test for the upcoming Cataclysm Classic.

“In modern World of Warcraft, you’re going to see three more content updates for Dragonflight arriving before World of Warcraft: The War Within releases next year,” executive producer Holly Longdale wrote. “In these updates, we’ll be wrapping up the story for this expansion and laying the foundation for our next one. Dragonflight Season 4 will revisit Dragonflight’s dungeons and raids, along with outdoor content, featuring updated rewards, and a few new twists. Then, in the Spring/Summer, we’ll ask for your feedback when the War Within expansion alpha and beta tests drop.”

Last week, a massive amount of data was stolen from Spider-Man developer Insomniac games. Now the hackers who stole that data have leaked it online, detailing internal plans of the studio that stretch across the next decade.

On December 12, Cyber Daily reported that Insomniac had suffered a data breach committed by ransomware group Rhysida, which posted proof-of-hack documents and stated it would publish the remaining information it had stolen after seven days. A spokesperson for Rhysida told Cyber Daily it had specifically chosen Insomniac as an “easy target” with the intent of demanding money. At the same time, Rhysida ran an auction for that data with a starting price of 50 bitcoins, worth approximately $2 million.

Win Wordle today in record time with our help—just click your way straight to the answer and then spend the rest of your day basking in the warm glow of a job well done. Alternatively, you might prefer to take a look at the clue written for the December 19 (913) puzzle instead, if you’d like a little direction without completely giving the game away.

Today’s Wordle definitely gave my keyboard a good exercise, making me chase after the answer right up to the very last row. Worse still is how obvious the word I needed to find is in hindsight. Why on earth did I ever try that or that when I could’ve reached straight for this instead? Can I try again?

Alan Wake 2 certainly isn’t afraid to be weird, whether it’s letting you change the layout of a level at the press of a button, or suddenly turning into a full-blown musical. Making a game so wilfully out there must be a nerve-wracking experience, however, as you’ve got no idea whether your kooky ideas are going to land with the audience. Yet according to Alan Wake 2’s creative director Sam Lake, Remedy’s belief in the game was boosted during development by a film that is equally weird and brilliant.

Speaking to the Washington Post, Lake says that seeing the positive audience reaction to Everything Everywhere All At Once, a sci-fi film about a middle-aged Chinese woman’s adventures in the multiverse, was reassuring while making a game that plays with the notion of reality in similarly strange ways. “We were already really far into making this, but it gave me confidence into understanding that what we’re doing here, we are doing these things at the right time.”

That letter? There? It looked like I was about to have a pretty miserable game of Wordle today when a solitary green finally decided to show up and lend a hand. Luckily for me, a few yellows appeared soon after, and between the three of them, and a bit of thought, I was able to work my way towards today’s Wordle answer.

There is an entire universe of beats out there on YouTube, low-fi or otherwise, that you can relax/study to, but I’m a big fan of “videogame ambience” videos. It’s not just a soundtrack rip, but long cuts of actual in game footage with all the other assorted sights and sounds adding to the experience.

One of my favorite channels for this sort of thing is Y2K Era PC Game Aesthetics, and for the holiday season, they’ve been sharing half-hour videos of PC gaming “yule logs.” We’re about three layers of playful riffing deep here.

Vampire Survivors

Developer: Poncle
Year: 2022

For most of a run in Vampire Survivors, you’re scrambling. Grabbing XP gems wherever you can, praying for the weapons you need, ducking and weaving around just-slightly-too-big-to-handle hordes. A lot of runs never escape this phase, especially early on in your time with Vampire Survivors—you struggle to keep your head above water, only to drown in a tide of monsters before your build ever really clicks.
